In creating a positive climate in sport for children and youth, the role of adults is of key importance as their behavior and attitudes determine the experiences and multilateral development of young players. Relatively recently, the importance of the referee in creating a supportive sporting environment has begun to be emphasized. This concerns, in particular, team sports in which the referees interact with players many times and influence the course of the game. The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of the referee–players’ interactions during youth floorball matches in terms of building a positive climate and responsiveness to the players’ needs. Another aim of the study was to examine whether the referee’s qualifications and players’ gender affect the quality of their interactions with the players. The study was conducted among 21 referees officiating matches for girls and boys aged 12–18. Naturalistic and structured observation methods were used in the study. The observation was conducted using a wireless intercom that allows listening to verbal messages directed to the players. Furthermore, the referee’s work was recorded using a camera. The results of the statistical tests did not show any significant differences in the assessment of referees between the groups distinguished in terms of the referees’ license and players’ gender in both examined dimensions. The observations showed that the average rating of building a positive climate by referees during a sporting event measured on a seven-point scale was ‘poor’ (2.81 pts). The referees were assessed significantly higher on the second dimension (responsiveness to the players’ needs), although an overall rating of 3.81 pts means a medium level of interaction quality. The results indicate areas in which referees can improve. They lead to the following conclusions: (i) the contents of training for floorball referees should include problems of pedagogy and developmental psychology; (ii) referees should be equipped with appropriate competencies for building a positive climate during matches and monitoring the players’ needs; (iii) referees appointed to officiate children and youth games should be characterized by appropriate predispositions.

Conversations among parents and children about the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) and how to prevent the transmission can reduce anxiety and a fear of children about the situation around them. Family communication refers to the verbal and non-verbal word that is happened between family members. Communication involves the ability to pay attention to others about what they think and feel. Communication does not only involve verbal words, but also listens to each other. The purpose of this article was to find out how parent-child communication during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method of this article used literature studies from books, scientific journals, and the internet websites. The results showed that healthy families communicated effectively well, while families with unhealthy relationships had poor communication. The effective communication in the family can be improved by family members through the quality of their relationships, namely frequent communication, communicating clearly and directly, being an active listener, communicating openly and honestly, thinking about people with whom to communicate, paying attention to non-verbal messages, communicating positively, and focus on family strengths. It is better if parents can increase their interaction with their children regarding Covid-19 messages during the pandemic, because it can make an impact on the relationship between parent-child.

This study aims to find out psychologist therapeutic communication in dealing with deliberate self-harm clients in 3 research question.  This study uses a phenomenological approach. In collecting data, researchers used an interview technique with five informants who were psychologists that practiced and domiciled in Bandung. The results of this study indicate the meaning of a DSH client for a psychologist into three meanings, those who have irrational thoughts, people that have fragile emotion, and those whose emotions are hidden or looking for attention. The experience of psychologist therapeutic communication in dealing with DSH clients is found in 4 major themes: techniques for building therapeutic relationships with clients, the key to understanding clients: active listening, being careful with non- verbal messages, feedback: reserved question. The psychologist's way of handling DSH clients is by handling it like a tailormade (adjusted to the personality and problems of the clients)

Background: Social communication (SC) includes the use and interpretation of verbal and non-verbal messages within a social context and thus requires more than knowledge of language. Social communication skills are essential for connecting and engaging with others, and SC deficits are often associated with emotional and behavioral problems. There is a lack of feasible instruments for assessing SC skills in individuals with intellectual disability (ID).Methods: A questionnaire on social communication in adults with ID (QSC-ID) comprising 20 Likert-scaled items was developed and completed on behalf of participants (n = 52) from three Austrian therapeutic living communities for people with ID and deafness by their living- and working-facility key caregivers. The sample of adults with hearing loss was considered ideal for the development of a measure of SC that is not restricted to a specific communication mode or overly related with language skills. Results: The preliminary results showed high construct validity. Correlations were high between SC and language, social skills, and severity of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), moderate between SC and adaptive skills, and non-verbal intelligence and, as expected, low between SC and motor skills. Interrater reliability was found to be good or at least acceptable for all items. Total raw scores were well-distributed over the whole range—Cut-offs based on the 10th and 20th percentile are suggested to identify atypical and borderline SC skills. Caregiver feedback and completeness of data suggest that the questionnaire is highly feasible. Conclusion: Questionnaire on social communication in adults with ID is an easy-to-use caregiver-reported questionnaire for use with individuals with mild to severe forms of ID. Initial testing of validity looks promising. Further validation in populations with typical hearing is required. Due to substantial correlations between SC and structural language skills the calculation of specific SC cut-offs for different levels of linguistic skills should be considered when sufficient data is available.

The role of meaning facets based on sensorimotor experiences is well-investigated in comprehension but has received little attention in language production research. In two experiments, we investigated whether experiential traces of space influenced lexical choices when participants completed visually-presented sentence fragments (e.g., ‘You are at the sea and you see a ...’) with spoken nouns (e.g., ‘dolphin’, ‘palm tree’). The words were presented consecutively in an ascending or descending direction, starting from the center of the screen. These physical spatial cues did not influence lexical choices. However, the produced nouns met the spatial characteristics of the broader sentence contexts such that the typical spatial locations of the produced noun referents were predicted by the location of the situations described by the sentence fragments (i. e., upper or lower sphere). By including distributional semantic similarity measures derived from computing cosine values between sentence nouns and produced nouns using a web-based text corpus, we show that the meaning dimension of ‘location in space’ guides lexical selection during speaking. We discuss the relation of this spatial meaning dimension to accounts of experientially grounded and usage-based theories of language processing and their combination in hybrid approaches. In doing so, we contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the many facets of meaning processing during language production and their impact on the words we select to express verbal messages.

This article aims to explain the symbolic meaning in the process of making the traditional sandeq boat of the Mandar people. The data collection process was carried out from April to June 2017. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 6 purposively selected expert informants, as well as direct observation in the field. The results of this study indicate that the ritual that accompanies the making of the traditional sandeq boat is seen in three main stages, namely: at the beginning of boat building, in the process of making boats, and launching boats into the sea. The meaning contained in the implementation of the ritual is the hope that it will always be given safety in using the boat. In addition, the ritual also intends to ask for abundant sustenance from the process of going to sea later. The religious value of the Mandar people is clearly seen from every stage of the ritual carried out, using mantras and prayers as verbal messages adopted from the Quran and with Islamic nuances. In addition, nonverbal messages in the ritual of making sandeq boats are centered on the use of ussul or the knowledge system of the local community which is carried out with actions or symbolic objects to show their hopes or desires.
