Background: A study was conducted to evaluate the antioxidant and immunological profile of methanolic extract of Adhatoda vasica leaves (AVE) in naturally infected sheep with gastrointestinal nematodes and compared with commonly used anthelmintic albendazole in sheep. Methods: Fifty four sheep found positive for gastrointestinal nematodes were divided into 3 equal groups, GI (infected-untreated: control), GII (infected- AVE treated) and GIII (infected- albendazole treated). Blood samples were drawn on 5th and 14th day after treatment for analysis of oxidative stress markers such as TBARS, TAC, SOD and catalase and immunological parameters such as total immunoglobulin, IgG and IL-10. Result: Helminthiasis in sheep cause a considerable oxidative stress. The anthelmintic activity of Adhatoda vasica surpassed the conventional synthetic drug albendazole in sheep in terms of oxidative and immunological changes in blood.

Abstract While it is well known that Glioblastoma (GBM) shows profound inter- and intra-tumoral heterogeneity, disparities in molecular features across ancestry groups have been largely overlooked. We collected a large cohort of GBM samples from East Asian patients (EAS-GBM) and performed genomic and transcriptomic analyses of these samples (EAS-GBM, n=443). Further characterization and comparative analysis of the EAS-GBM with the predominantly European-ancestry TCGA GBM dataset (EUR-GBM, n=383) revealed differential genomic and genetic landscape and immunological profile of EAS-GBM from EUR-GBM. EAS-GBM showed an enrichment for NF1, H3F3A, TP53 and ATRX mutations compared to EUR-GBM. Transcriptomic clustering revealed distinct EAS-GBM specific subtypes, namely Proliferative (PL), Neuron-Synaptic (NS), Metabolic (MB) and Immunomodulatory (IM). Notably, the classic subtype of EUR-GBMs with EGFR as its main marker gene was absent in EAS-GBMs, Moreover, the IM subgroup in EAS-GBM with an expression profile that has been previously associated with response to immunotherapy in cancers. Together, our comprehensive characterization revealed the unique genomic and genetic features of EAS-GBMs, providing mechanistic rationale in patient stratification for molecular targeted therapy and drug development in the era of personalized medicine.

Breastfeeding is the best way to feed an infant, although it can also be a source of abiotic contaminants such as heavy metals or bisphenol A (BPA). The early life exposure to these compounds can lead to serious toxic effects in both the short and long-term. These substances can reach breast milk through the mother’s habits, diet being one of the main routes of exposure. The aim of the present work was to analyse possible associations between the dietary habits of women and the content of major trace elements, BPA, fatty acids and lipids, and the microbiological and immunological profiles of human milk. Possible associations between major trace elements and BPA and the lipid, microbiological and immunological profiles were also analysed. The results of this study support that the microbiological composition of human milk is associated with the dietary habits of the women, and that the consumption of canned drinks is related to the presence of BPA in human milk. Furthermore, some relationships were found between the amount of major trace elements and the microbiological and immunological profile of the milk samples. Finally, the presence of BPA was associated with changes in the immunological profile of human milk.

The timely diagnosis and treatment of post-infectious glomerulonephritis (PIGN) is currently limited by the erased and low-symptom nature of the disease, which leads to the search for informative biological markers of the disease, which can be used as immunological indicators of blood and urine. The study was carried out in order to establish the characteristic changes in the immunological parameters of blood and urine in patients with PIGN. The study included 60 patients with PIGN from among the patients, hospitalized in the nephrology department of the Republican Clinical Hospital of Health Care Ministry of the Chuvash Republic in 2015-2018. In addition to the generally accepted research methods, the patients underwent: 1) the determination of indicators of innate and acquired immune response in the blood (CD3+ -, CD3+ CD4+-, CD3+CD8+-, CD4+CD25+-, CD95+-, CD20+-, CD14+CD282+-, CD14+CD284+- cells; levels of IgG, IgA, IgM, circulating immune complexes, C3, C4) and urine (levels of IgG, IgA, IgM, C3, C4); 2) the determination of the levels of cytokines - IL-1β, Ra-IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17A in blood serum and urine. The data obtained were compared with those of the group of healthy individuals. The changes in blood immunological parameters, identified in the group of patients with PIGN, indicate the activation of innate immunity (the increase in the number of CD14+TLR2+- cells) and the humoral component of adaptive immunity (the increase in the number of B-lymphocytes, hyperimmunoglobulinemia - the increase in IgM and IgA levels) against the background of the decrease in the number of T (CD3+) - lymphocytes and regulatory (CD4+CD25high) - cells, hypocomplementemia (decreased levels of C3, C4). The increase in the content of C3, IgG and IgA was found in the urine. The cytokine profile of blood in patients with PIGN was characterized by the increase in the levels of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, Ra-IL-1β, IL-2, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17A, with the exception of IL-4, which remained on the levels of healthy individuals. The cytokine profile of urine in patients was characterized by the increase in the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-2, IL-8, IL-17A and anti-inflammatory cytokine - IL-10, with no changes in the content of Ra-IL-1β and IL-4. The revealed features of the immunological profile of blood and urine in patients with PIGN reflect the immunopathogenetic mechanisms of this disease.

Abstract Background The Ketogenic Diet (KD) is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate, and adequate-protein diet and a well-established treatment option for drug resistant childhood epilepsies. Neutrophils are important component of humans` innate phagocytic defense which usually arrive first at sites of infection and/or inflammation. Objectives The objective of this study was to assess the effect of ketosis induced by KD on neutrophils count. Methods This case control study was done in the Ketoclinic, Children’s Hospital, Ain Shams University, during the period of May 2018 till December 2019. It included 21 patients and 9 age and sex matched healthy children as a control group. Neutrophil counts were measured in both patients and controls both initially and after 6 months of KD usage. Results Although three patients reported increased incidence of infection after commencement of KD, the current study showed no significant change in the neutrophil count in studied patients compared to the controls after 6 months of KD. Conclusion KD has no effect on neutrophil number, however, further detailed studies for the full immunological profile including their function is needed to ensure that patients receiving this line of therapeutic nutrition aren`t susceptible to increased risk of infections.

Few information is available about the optimal period for colostrum absorption in the bowel of newborn lambs. The aim of the current study was to investigate the effects of using supplementation with commercial core homeopathic during pregnancy and early lactation on 18 pregnant Santa Inês ewes presenting body condition score ≥ 2.5. Pregnant animals were randomly divided in two groups; one was used as control (control group) and the other was supplemented on a daily basis with 30 g of homeopathic product with Natrum muriaticum 10-60, Calcium carbonicum 10-30, Silicea terra 10-400 and Hypothalamus 10-30 per animal, mixed to the concentrate during pregnancy and early lactation (treatment group). The Total Protein (TP) and globulin (GLB) values found in ewes and lambs belonging to the treatment group were higher than and different from those recorded for the control group. The serum albumin (ALB) concentration did not differ between groups of ewes but was different in lambs. TP and GLB evolution in lambs and ewes throughout the seven experimental days showed the animals in the treatment group trend to present higher TP and GLB values in all experimental periods; supplemented animals showed trend to progressive increase in both variables until day 3; whereas non-supplemented animals showed such trend until day 2 (when they reached their peak). The commercial core homeopathic to the animals during pregnancy and early lactation resulted in higher TP and GLB concentrations in the serum samples collected from ewes and lambs.

Introduction: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a disease of thousand faces whose manifestations vary with the interplay of genetic, ethnic, and host factors along with environmental exposures and geographical conditions. Since the first case of SLE reported in India in 1955, many case series have been published from various centers depicting Clinical and Immunological features in the Indian population. This study was undertaken to study the clinical and immunological profile in a tertiary care center in the sub-Himalayan region of northern India. Materials and Methods: This study is a cross-sectional retrospective study conducted at a tertiary care center in the hilly northern state of Himachal Pradesh over a period of 1 year; from 1st June 2017 to 31st May 2018. The records of all patients admitted in the study period with the department of medicine and diagnosed with SLICC 2012 classification criteria were studied to abstract the Clinical and Immunological profile of patients. Results: A total of sixty-nine patients were included in the study. 96% of the subjects were female patients, and 84 % of the patients were in the reproductive age group of 20 – 40 years. Mucocutaneous manifestations were most commonly seen in nearly 89 % of patients followed by musculoskeletal involvement in about 71 %. Hematological involvement was more frequent than reported in the literature. Lupus Nephritis was diagnosed in about 30 % of the patients. Fatigue and synovitis were the most common features, followed by oral ulcers and Acute cutaneous lupus. ANA and ds DNA positivity was 98.5 and 72.4 % respectively. Six cases of MCTD were d=found in the study group. Conclusion: In hospitalized SLE patients admitted in a tertiary care center of the northern hilly state, females of reproductive age group constituted the majority of patients. Mucocutaneous, Musculoskeletal, hematological, and renal involvement was most prevalent. Keywords: SLE, cross-sectional study, Mucocutaneous involvement, Renal Biopsy, Hilly area.
