One of the main problems of modern medicine is cancer, which is the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular disease. Malignant neoplasms have been known for a long time; however, their study still presents significant difficulties. Modeling of malignant processes in animals allow researchers to study tumors and the main patterns of malignant growth characteristic of animals and humans. The main cause of death in malignant neoplasms is the process of metastasis formation, which remains to be understood in detail. The study of metastatic processes is one of the most important tasks of oncology. To this end, various models of tumor metastasis are created. The article reviews literature data on the most popular models of metastasis in experimental conditions. The advantages and disadvantages of the main approaches to modeling metastasis are evaluated.

Helminth parasites are adept manipulators of the immune system, using multiple strategies to evade the host type 2 response. In the intestinal niche, the epithelium is crucial for initiating type 2 immunity via tuft cells, which together with goblet cells expand dramatically in response to the type 2 cytokines IL-4 and IL-13. However, it is not known whether helminths modulate these epithelial cell populations. In vitro, using small intestinal organoids, we found that excretory/secretory products (HpES) from Heligmosomoides polygyrus blocked the effects of IL-4/13, inhibiting tuft and goblet cell gene expression and expansion, and inducing spheroid growth characteristic of fetal epithelium and homeostatic repair. Similar outcomes were seen in organoids exposed to parasite larvae. In vivo, H. polygyrus infection inhibited tuft cell responses to heterologous Nippostrongylus brasiliensis infection or succinate, and HpES also reduced succinate-stimulated tuft cell expansion. Our results demonstrate that helminth parasites reshape their intestinal environment in a novel strategy for undermining the host protective response.

Background: Silver–Russell syndrome (SRS) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous disorder characterized by severe intrauterine growth retardation, poor postnatal growth, characteristic facial features, and body asymmetry. Hypomethylation of the imprinted genes of the chromosome 11p15.5 imprinting gene cluster and maternal uniparental disomy of chromosome 7 (mUPD7) are the major epigenetic disturbances. The aim of this study was to characterize the epigenotype, genotype, and phenotype of these patients in Taiwan. Methods: Two hundred and six subjects with clinically suspected SRS were referred for diagnostic testing, which was performed by profiling the methylation of H19-associated imprinting center (IC) 1 and the imprinted PEG1/MEST region using methylation-specific multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification and high-resolution melting analysis with a methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction assay. We also applied a whole genome strategy to detect copy number changes and loss of heterozygosity. Clinical manifestations were recorded and analyzed according to the SRS scoring system proposed by Bartholdi et al. Results: Among the 206 referred subjects, 100 were classified as having a clinical diagnosis of SRS (score ≥ 8, maximum = 15) and 106 had an SRS score ≤ 7. Molecular lesions were detected in 45% (45/100) of the subjects with a clinical diagnosis of SRS, compared to 5% (5/106) of those with an SRS score ≤ 7. Thirty-seven subjects had IC1 hypomethylation, ten subjects had mUPD7, and three subjects had microdeletions. Several clinical features were found to be statistically different (p < 0.05) between the “IC1 hypomethylation” and “mUPD7” groups, including relative macrocephaly at birth (89% vs. 50%), triangular shaped face (89% vs. 50%), clinodactyly of the fifth finger (68% vs. 20%), and SRS score (11.4 ± 2.2 vs. 8.3 ± 2.5). Conclusions: The SRS score was positively correlated with the molecular diagnosis rate (p < 0.001). The SRS subjects with mUPD7 seemed to have fewer typical features and lower SRS scores than those with IC1 hypomethylation. Careful clinical observation and timely molecular confirmation are important to allow for an early diagnosis and multidisciplinary management of these patients.

Many studies have shown that macrophytes play a significant role in controlling eutrophication; however, only a few of these are based on macrophyte biomass. Based on the growth characteristic of macrophytes, we propose an approach for the assessment of the optimal biomass of macrophytes in the decay and growth periods in Lake Datong (a shallow lake), using a lake ecological model. The results showed that the pollution load of the lake should be reduced by 50% while conforming to the Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water (EQSSW) Class Ⅲ. In contrast, with an increase in the pollution load of 5%, the results indicate that the lake may deteriorate to a turbid state over the next few years. The macrophyte biomass should be harvested during the decay period, when 80% biomass is beneficial to the water quality of the eutrophic shallow lake. Based on macrophyte simulation from 2020–2024, the wet biomass of macrophytes should be controlled at 5.5 kg/m2. The current macrophyte biomass in Lake Datong is four-fold higher than the simulated optimal biomass. This study provides a reference for the adequate ecological restoration of the lake and its subsequent maintenance, as well as scientific support for improving the comprehensive evaluation standard of healthy lakes and the theoretical basis of lake ecological restoration.

Abstract Background: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have the potential to multilineage differentiation, which can be used for a good model to provide critical insight of chicken muscle development. Differential adhesion method is one of the commonest methods to isolate MSCs based on the ability of plastic adhesion. 5-azacytidine (5-Aza), dexamethasone (DXMS), hydrocortisone (HC) and horse serum had been proved the potential to induce the myogenic differentiation of MSCs. However, the myogenic differentiation of MSCs is still poorly understood in chicken. In present study, we isolated chicken mesenchymal stem cells (cMSCs) from bone using 4-hour differential adhesion method and analyzed the myogenic effect of cMSCs treated with different method based on 5-Aza, DXMS, HC and horse serum.Results: cMSCs isolated by 4-hour differential adhesion method expressed MSCs special surface markers and presented normal growth characteristic. cMSCs showed great potential of myogenic differentiation by the treatment of 5-Aza and horse serum. RNA-sequence, GO and KGEE enrichment analysis revealed that this effect might be based on demethylation of 5-Aza and ECM-receptor interaction, focal adhesion, PI3K-Akt, p53, TGF-beta signaling pathways. Moreover, DXMS, HC and horse serum also presented potential of myogenic differentiation, but the effect was not as good as 5-Aza and horse serum method.Conclusions: cMSCs showed potential of myogenic differentiation by the treatment of 5-Aza and horse serum or DXMS, HC and horse serum.

Abstract We construct a particular flow in the space of 2D Euclidean QFTs on a torus, which we argue is dual to a class of solutions in 3D Euclidean gravity with conformal boundary conditions. This new flow comes from a Legendre transform of the kernel which implements the T$$ \overline{T} $$ T ¯ deformation, and is motivated by the need for boundary conditions in Euclidean gravity to be elliptic, i.e. that they have well-defined propagators for metric fluctuations. We demonstrate equivalence between our flow equation and variants of the Wheeler de-Witt equation for a torus universe in the so-called Constant Mean Curvature (CMC) slicing. We derive a kernel for the flow, and we compute the corresponding ground state energy in the low-temperature limit. Once deformation parameters are fixed, the existence of the ground state is independent of the initial data, provided the seed theory is a CFT. The high-temperature density of states has Cardy-like behavior, rather than the Hagedorn growth characteristic of T$$ \overline{T} $$ T ¯ -deformed theories.

The aim of the research is to study the morphological changes of fungi of the genus Trichoderma when using glyphosate at intervals of 24, 48, 96 hours. Isolated isolates of T.koningii, T.veride, T.harzianum, T.asperellum diluted in an aqueous extract at a dilution of 106 were extracted in a 10 % preparation of glyphor (the active ingredient is glyphosate). After each 24, 48, 96-hour exposure, control seeding was carried out on agarized Czapek media. After incubation at a temperature of 23 0C, visual inspection and microscopy of fungal colonies were carried out, taking into account the color, structure and consistency of conidia. The fungus of the genus T. koningii was more susceptible to chemical action, which was manifested by a change in mycelium growth, characteristic ragged conidiophores, and a decrease in the number of acospores on Czapek's nutrient medium. T.asperellum under the influence of the herbicide after 48 hours changed the shape of the conidia, the walls of the conidiophores decreased, upon visual examination after 48-96 hours the color of the fungus colonies was transparent, slightly whitish. The isolate of T.harzianum proved to be the most resistant to glyphosate, which was capable of rapid mycelium recovery after 48 h. Thus, with the combined use of biological products based on fungi of the genus Trichoderma and herbicides based on glyphosate, the action of the former can be slowed down, which should be taken into account in their development and application.

The shrimp is highly demanded for frozen seafood industry that makes its market price range attractive from Rp. 50,000 (USD 3.37) to Rp. 70,000 (USD 4.72)/kg. This can cause the species to be potentially exploited. However, due to lack of data, the exploitation status of the windu shrimp is unknown. Hence, the present study was carried out to determine the absolute growth, mortality, and exploitation level of the windu shrimp in Juata waters of Tarakan. Sampling of the shrimp using experimental trawling net was conducted four times between June and August 2020 in the waters of Tarakan. Morphometric data of the windu shrimps including sex, total length, carapace length, and total weight were recorded and analyzed. The results showed that the sex ratio of male and female tiger prawns was 1:1.08. The maximum growth of male and female shrimps was estimated at 26.875 and 21.435 cm respectively. The size of the male shrimps caught during the sampling ranged between 8.7 and 22.5 cm, and was estimated to be at 13 to 67 days old respectively. Maximum growth of male shrimp was estimated at 26.875 cm that could be achieved within 411 days. The size of female shrimp caught during the sampling ranged from 9.8 to 19.3 cm with an estimated age of 21 to 87 days respectively. The maximum growth for female shrimp was estimated at 21.435 cm, and achievable within 377 days. The mortality of male and female shrimps was not significantly different at 110.3% and 110.1% respectively. The fishing mortality for male and female shrimps was recorded at 19% and 22.5% respectively. The level of exploitation of male and female shrimps was slightly different at 17.2% and 20.5%, respectively. Finally, the natural mortality for male and female shrimps was at 91.3% and 87.5%, respectively.
