 Riau is a province in Sumatra Island with the widest peatland covering up to ± 4,04 million Ha or about 56,1% of the area, with various type of peat, including the potentially submerged peat area.  With the peat charasteristics drawbacks such as low nutrient content and relatively high acidity, cause this type of land  barely cultivated for horticulture crop such as shallot. Whilst, in Indonesia, shallot is part of daily society culinary component. Therefore, efforts are needed to make use of peat land for this type of commodity by overcoming the shortages, for example by applying Trichocompost combined with Grand-K fertilizer. This research thus aimed at evaluating the growth and yield of shallot in potentially submerged peat soil, treated with Trichocompost and Grand-K Fertilizer. Experiment was conducted on peat soil   in Labersa Street Kelurahan Simpang tiga Kecamatan Bukit Raya Kota Pekanbaru for three months, from October to December 2019. The experiment was arranged in completely factorial design with two factors; each at four levels. The factors were Trichocompost (at 0, 2, 4, 6 ton ha-1) and Grand K fertilizer (at  0, 50, 100, 150 kg ha-1). The parameters observed were the percentage of seed viability, plant height, number of leaf, number of tuber, and the yield per plan. Results of the experiment showed that the best combination of treatment was Trichokompos at 4 – 6 ton ha-1 dan Grand K at 150 kg ha-1.

Aim of study: To evaluate the effects of a long-term manuring and fertilization experiment on the soil total N concentration and its storage and sequestration rates in the rice-wheat cropping system.Area of study: A rice-wheat rotation area in central China.Material and methods: A 35-yr long-term fertilizer experiment was conducted with 9 treatments: unfertilized (Control), N, P, and K fertilizers, manure (M) and M combined with N, P, and K fertilizers treatments. Soil total N input amount, total N concentration, total N storage amount and N sequestration rate in soil were calculated.Main results: The soil total N input amount, N concentration, N storage amount and N sequestration rate were significantly influenced by M and chemical fertilizers. In total, 0.017-0.021 g N/kg soil accumulated in the organic M plots, whereas only 0.005-0.007 g in chemical fertilizer alone plots. The highest soil total N storage amount was 6.09 t/hain the M alone plot, and the lowest value was 4.46 tN/ha in the N fertilizer alone plot. The highest N sequestration rate in soil was 0.061 t N/ha/yr in the high amount M plus NPK fertilizers plot, and the lowest value was 0.002 tN/ha/yr in the N fertilizer alone plot. A significant nonlinear regression relationship existed between the total N sequestration rate in soil and annual total N input amount. Moreover, the average soil total N concentration was significantly positively correlated with the average grain yield of crop and soil organic C concentration. The soil total N sequestration rate in M alone or M combined with inorganic fertilizer treatments were increased compared with inorganic fertilizer alone treatments.Research highlights: Considering crop yields and total N sequestration rate in soil, the use of manure combined with inorganic fertilizer should be recommended in the rice-wheat cropping system.

Field data from six experiments covering a wide range of growing conditions were organized for tef growth and cropping systems modeling. The data included (i) an irrigation experiment in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, (ii) a cultivar trial at Fallon, NV, USA, (iii) a nitrogen fertilizer experiment in the Jamma District of Ethiopia, (iv) a nitrogen fertilizer experiment in the Ofla District of Ethiopia, (v) a nitrogen fertilizer experiment in the Ada area of Ethiopia, and (vi) a nitrogen fertilizer experiment at Gare Arera, Ethiopia. The combined data set covered 40 experimental treatments and 131 observations. Time series data were limited to biomass data from two treatments from the Tigray region experiment. All other crop related data was measured at maturity. Daily weather data was taken primarily from satellite weather databases for Ethiopia, and from weather stations in the USA. These data have been used in various agronomic studies, as well as the calibration of the DSSAT Tef model. The results of this model calibration are also included in this paper. The objective of this paper was to present and preserve all of the field data used for calibrating the DSSAT Tef model, as well as the tef model’s simulations of the field data.
