Abstract The definition of environmentally friendly behavior has changed from generation to generation. This is due to the development of technology and media. Being close to the digital technology, the Phi generation tends to abandon the analog technology which is more environmentally friendly. This study aimed to create a media that can introduce green behavior to the Phi generation and make them implement it in their daily lives. This study used the ADDIE method to create a product in the form of an illustration book prototype. The book design contains a description of green behavior of using analog technology with a visual illustration approach. The illustration book is expected to foster the desire of the Phi generation to use analog technology.

To investigate the generic features of firm-generated advertisements (FGAs) in cross-cultural contexts, this study analyzed 327 FGAs by Dell Technologies and the Lenovo Group on Twitter and Sina Weibo. Integrating affordances and multimodality into genre analysis, the study showed that the FGAs were characterized by (a) flexible move structure, (b) persuasive language, (c) visual illustration, and (d) hyperlinks, hashtagging (#), and mentioning (@) functions. The FGAs on Sina Weibo, compared with those on Twitter, tended to use more language play, emojis, and contextual product pictures and show more emphasis on the niche of products, incentives, and celebrity endorsement.

This study aims at analyzing the myth within the "Who Says No to Mentos" advertisement. The data of this study was taken from Mentos NG on the YouTube platform. The data were collected by documentation method with note-taking technique and analyzed by the qualitative method using the theory of Semiotic by Barthes (1972). The analysis is presented in an informal method. The results of this study show that both verbal and non-verbal signs have implied meaning to persuade and influence the audiences through visual illustration. The meaning comes from the relation between signifier and signified. This has determined that the "Who Says No to Mentos" advertisement concerned with sharing, caring, togetherness, happiness, and making friends with people in real life.

Teaching grammar needs to be developed by the lecturer or the teacher. The lecturer must find out an alternative way to build good atmosphere in teaching grammar. Hence, one of the alternative ways is through visual illustration. This study examined the visual illustration towards the students’ grammar ability enhancement and the problems of the students in learning grammar and the solution. This study combined quantitative and qualitative method in answering the research questions. The instruments are grammar test and interview guideline. The result showed that visual illustration technique is effective in teaching grammar for students. It can be proved by the result of simple statistic calculation, where the score of significant is lower than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). Besides, students faced several problems in learning grammar, such as are misuse tenses, misuse modal auxiliary, misuse nominal and verbal sentence, and pronoun. The reason students faced those problems can be caused by the student itself, lecturer and inadequate knowledge.

This paper is an attempt to converse about urban heritage preservation and its experience. To converse is to colloquially discuss ideas that comes to mind while we are looking back at the 2019 photographs of some parts of Kota Tua Surabaya (The Old Town of Surabaya) and reflect upon our knowledge background, one of architecture, the other of history. This conversation is created through a form of creative writing, creative nonfiction, where we begin with our personal thoughts, one of experiencing ruination and the other of witnessing complexity of urban heritage preservation, one of decay and the other of paint. We involve relevant discourses and the use of visual materials such as collages, diagrams, and drawings as a form of visual inquiry and visual illustration, showing the interpretation, reality, and the imagination of fragments of Kota Tua Surabaya. The process involved in creating this conversation could be one of the ways to creatively build collaborative knowledge and have the writings and the visual materials based on personal voice, expanding the academic form of writings.

Abstract BACKGROUND The lateral craniopharyngeal or Sternberg's canal (SC) originates from superior orbital fissure (SOF) and traverses the sphenoid body into the nasopharynx. A remnant of the canal, Sternberg's defect (SD), has been debated as a source of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. The canal was described in 1888, and there is limited accurate visual illustration in the literature. OBJECTIVE To provide a detailed anatomic and radiological illustration of the canal in pediatric and adult population including the mechanism undermining the incidence of the canal, and the possibility of the canal as a source of CSF leak. METHODS A total of 195 high-resolution computed tomographies (CT) of patients (50 3-yr-old, 20 5-yr-old, and 125 adults) and 43 dry adult skulls (86 sides) were analyzed for a canal matching the description of the SC. RESULTS A SC was identified in 86% of the 3-yr-old and 40% of 5-yr–old patients. The diameter and length were 2.12 mm and 12 mm, respectively. The incidence of the canal decreased with age as sinus pneumatization extended into the sphenoid sinus. Only 0.8% of the adult skull on CT had the canal. The canal was not present on the dry adult skulls examination, but SD was found in 4.65%. CONCLUSION SC exists with high incidence in the pediatric group. Sinus pneumatization obliterates the canal in the adult population, leaving a defect in 4.65% of cases, which given the location and related anatomic structures, is unlikely to be a source of CSF leak.
