The affable and popular theater manager Bram Stoker was born in Clontarf, Ireland, to Abraham and Charlotte Stoker in 1847, into an Irish Protestant (although not Anglo-Irish) family. After a sickly childhood he grew into a robust sportsman, and attended Trinity College Dublin from 1864 to 1866, finally graduating with a BA in 1870. Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the Irish Civil Service in 1866, where he had the opportunity to travel around Ireland as a clerk of Petty Sessions, while also becoming an unpaid theater reviewer for the Dublin Evening Mail from 1871 to 1878, and publishing his first short story, “The Crystal Cup,” in London Society 1872. This he followed with a short novel, The Primrose Path, and two short stories, “The Chain of Destiny” and “Buried Treasures,” all in the periodical The Shamrock in 1875. In 1878 he left Dublin with his wife Florence to take up the position of acting manager of Henry Irving’s Lyceum Theatre in London, and fulfilled this role until Irving’s death in 1905, also managing several American tours. In the earlier part of this period, Stoker managed to publish more fiction, including a first collection of short stories, Under the Sunset (1881), and then his first truly accomplished novel, The Snake’s Pass, set in rural Ireland, in 1890. Short but memorable pieces, “The Squaw” and “The Man from Shorrox,” appeared in periodicals in 1893 and 1894, and then two novels, The Watter’s Mou’, based on his knowledge of Cruden Bay near Aberdeen, and The Shoulder of Shasta, both 1895. Dracula, his most famous work, the product of seven years of research and rewriting, appeared in 1897, followed by a Restoration-era romance of much less merit, Miss Betty, in 1898. The Edwardian era saw his rate of productivity increase with The Mystery of the Sea (1902), another romance set in Cruden Bay, The Jewel of Seven Stars (1903), a Gothic “mummy” story, The Man (1905), Personal Reminiscences of Henry Irving in 1906 (his most successful work in sales terms), and Lady Athlyne and Snowbound (a collection of theatrical short stories), both in 1908. His final, post-theater years were beset with ill health and monetary problems, as he resorted to journalism to supplement his income. However, he also produced the topical Balkan romance The Lady of the Shroud in 1909, and the chaotic The Lair of the White Worm in 1911, before dying the next year, his vibrant personality quietly mourned by London society.

AbstractThis article analyses the effect of productivity improvements on optimal fisheries management. It is shown that when harvest costs are independent of resource stock and the stock is below its steady state level, then for any given stock it is optimal to reduce harvest levels in response to a productivity increase unless optimal harvest rate is already zero. If harvest costs are stock dependent this result is modified; for stock dependent harvest costs there exists an interval of stock sizes below the steady state where it is optimal to reduce the harvest rate for any given stock size whereas if the harvest rate is close to an economically optimal steady state it is optimal to increase the harvest rate.

In 2020-2021, potential recruitment of the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis was measured in Sevastopol estuarine waters with regard to temperature, salinity, and pH in three depth horizons 1–3, 7, and 11 m. Compared to the previous annual period in 2021, spring mussel recruitment at all depth horizons in-creased by an order of magnitude. This increase was preceded by a mild winter. Also in 2021, a decrease in salinity and an increase in the vertical variability of the thermohaline structure of water were observed. The obtained data may indirectly indicate the improvement of environmental conditions for mussel productivity increase in 2021. The necessity of improving the method of the control for mussel recruit-ment related to possible vertical migrations of its post-larvae is shown.

Due to the constant competitiveness among the multinational companies nowadays, these companies intensely seek agility and flexibility in their production processes, so that they can respond quickly to variations in their demands, eliminating waste and making their processes leaner and more competitive. Following this trend, the present work had as a proposal and purpose to restructure the layout of a conventional assembly line (linear layout) for U-shaped manufacturing cells, and it is intended in this way to obtain flexibility improvement and productivity increase of the process. The applied methodology was developed from bibliographical research and analysis of the current situation, where a mapping of the processes was done in order to identify the wastes that had a negative impact on the production line. As for the factors that had a negative impact to the process, it was found that there was a need to change the layout of the production line. As the main results related to the restructuring, there is an increase of 6% in productivity per person, a reduction of approximately 30% in the movements of operators in the process, and an improvement in the flexibility of the assembly line, adapting it according to the variation in customer demand.

ABSTRACT Lavender (Lavandula dentata) has several medicinal applications, both in the fresh form and after industrial processing. Productivity increase could be obtained through the mass propagation, expanding the possibility of obtaining raw material for production of essential oil. The objective of this work was to develop a micropropagation protocol from explants obtained from seeds. Aspects of in vitro germination, multiplication, elongation and rooting were evaluated and, in sequence, the acclimatization process as well. The in vitro germination of lavender seeds can be obtained using a medium composed of agar and water. For multiplication, the use of MS medium (Murashige & Skoog, 1962) added with 5.0 µM 6-benzylaminopurine to the nutrient medium is the most appropriate. For elongation and rooting, the use of growth regulators is unnecessary. Acclimatization can be obtained directly by transferring the explant to plastic bags with substrate, kept in a greenhouse. It was possible to develop a protocol for the in vitro cultivation (establishment, multiplication, elongation, rooting and acclimatization) of lavender from explants of seed origin.

Poultry farming from last decade earn a good name in terms of income and employment generation in Kashmir valley. Taking this point as our concern we go through the cost benefit of poultry farming in Kashmir valley. As our study area is district Anantnag and we take one medium size poultry farm as our sample. The study shows that the income from poultry farming is so reasonable and normal profits are earned with less effort. So government should have to think about this industry and support them financially and give them new information’s and training regarding poultry farming through which the production and productivity increase. .

Abstract The paper presents the results of studying the influence of liquid humic fertilizer produced from milled lowland peat on biological activity, the dynamics of nutrients in brown semi-desert soils in arid climate conditions with leaf fertilization of cucurbits. In arable farming of the Astrakhan region most of the harvest is formed by mobilizing soil fertility without compensation for the elements of nutrition carried out with the harvest, which leads to a negative balance of humus and nutrients, as a consequence, the soil is depleted, its fertility becomes lower. It is shown, that application of humates promotes increase of the content of humus in soil in arable horizons and reception of higher harvests of an early ripe watermelon that is caused by activization of biochemical processes in soil and increase of nutrients availability that has accelerated development and ripening of fruits of studied crop.

Field experiments were carried out during rabi seasons of 2015-16 and 2016-17 at the Research Farm, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Wheat variety PBW 621 was sown on three dates (D1: 4th week of October, D2: 2nd week of November and D3: 4th week of November) with two irrigation levels (I1: IW/ CPE = 0.9, I2: At CRI, 5-6 weeks after 1st irrigation, 3-4/5-6 weeks after 2nd irrigation, 2/4 weeks after 3rd irrigation as per dates of sowing) and mulch application (M1: without mulch, M2: straw mulch @ 5 t ha-1). Earlier sown mulch applied crop with four post-sowing irrigations produced highest (5312.5 kg ha-1) and late sown without mulch application crop with irrigation @IW/CPE = 0.9 produced lowest grain yield (3900.5 kg ha-1). Simulation results depicted -1.1 to 16.8 per cent deviation in crop yield, -1.4 to -21.0 per cent in water use and 12.7 to 45.5 per cent in water productivity. Increase in temperature from 1oC to 3oC decreased wheat yield by 6.3 to 27.0 per cent under D1 and 3.3 to 17.6 per cent under D2, however, it increased from 8.1 to 16.2 per cent under D3, indicating D3 as most appropriate under future warming scenarios. Increase in CO2 concentration decreased water use and increased yield and water productivity.
