Abstract Recognizing that the “healthcare sector perspective” can be too limited in some situations, the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE), Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER), and the U.S. Second Panel on Cost-Effectiveness in Health and Medicine all recommend a “societal” perspective in “reference case” cost-effectiveness analyses (CEAs). Although costs of informal caregiving are sometimes included in the CEAs of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) drugs, the benefits and disutility to family members, referred to as “family spillovers” by the U.S. Second Panel, are usually omitted. We estimate that the aggregate cost of family spillovers could be substantial in the USA—on the order of USD 57 billion or over 10 percent of the total economic burden of AD in 2020. Incorporation of family spillovers in AD value frameworks and HTAs is important for comprehensively defining, rewarding, and providing high-value care in AD.

The topicality of the research is stipulated by the growing necessity to investigate the degree of corruption perception in societies capable to reveal the motives, cultural and socialpsychological tendencies to corruption offences to develop a set of measures aimed at eliminating social and cultural reasons of the corruption. The current paper suggests applying methods of personal and societal value-based orientations estimation as such investigations. The paper is aimed at analysis comparing four most known and successful techniques on value-based orientations estimation (Schwartz value survey, Rokeach value survey, the Diagnostics of person value orientations structure by S.Bubnova, and the World assumptions scale by R. Janoff-Bulman adapted by O.Kravtsova) in the context of its applicability to determine the degree of the corruption perception. The paper shows advantages and disadvantages of the analyzed methods for the corruption perception researches. It was determined that for the use in corruption perception researches, some of the considered methods require the inclusion of additional issues on corruption component. The authors propose the formulation of such issues by Schwartz survey and adapted Janoff-Bulman scale. The results of the research represent the evaluation of each of the considered techniques from 1 to 4 points scale by the following criteria: survey scale, complexity of survey, complexity of analysis and interpretation of results, complexity of corruption perception issues integration.

AbstractElasmobranchs (sharks, skates and rays) are of broad ecological, economic, and societal value. These globally important fishes are experiencing sharp population declines as a result of human activity in the oceans. Research to understand elasmobranch ecology and conservation is critical and has now begun to explore the role of body-associated microbiomes in shaping elasmobranch health. Here, we review the burgeoning efforts to understand elasmobranch microbiomes, highlighting microbiome variation among gastrointestinal, oral, skin, and blood-associated niches. We identify major bacterial lineages in the microbiome, challenges to the field, key unanswered questions, and avenues for future work. We argue for prioritizing research to determine how microbiomes interact mechanistically with the unique physiology of elasmobranchs, potentially identifying roles in host immunity, disease, nutrition, and waste processing. Understanding elasmobranch–microbiome interactions is critical for predicting how sharks and rays respond to a changing ocean and for managing healthy populations in managed care.

The purpose of this work is to assess the societal value of a Service-Learning (SL) project carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic by the Faculty of Information Science of the *⁣** University of *⁣** in collaboration with two Senior Centers of the City of *⁣**. The aim of the project was to support elderly’s integration in the online activities carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic and to train them in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The analysis of societal value is based on a case study and a varied range of data whose purpose is to provide multiple insights into the experience, emphasizing communicative processes. The results corroborate the educational value of experiential learning for students, although the impact on the community appears limited by the role of consumers of a service that participating elderly ended up playing. The evaluation of the project by the faculty leading the activities was corroborated by the institutional partner and provides evidence of the capacity for societal transformation of higher education institutions.

Medical research aims to improve health for everyone. While its advances are undeniable, the pace and cost of the progress are not optimal. For example, independent analyses concluded that at least half of the published biomedical research findings are irreproducible, and most scientific papers are never read or cited. This paper examines biomedical research holistically, as a system of incentives that shape the behavior of scientists, administrators, publishers, and funders, and are detrimental to medical progress. We identify opportunities to change and improve those incentives by altering the way research output is disseminated and evaluated, and recommend transparent, data-driven measures of methodological rigor, reproducibility, and societal value of scientific discoveries. Embracing these opportunities would maximize our investments in biomedical research and optimize its value to human health, while simultaneously increasing freedom, creativity, and satisfaction of the scientific workforce.

After presenting the concept of communicative autonomy and how it can help professionals with ethical decision-making (micro), I draw on two different visual examples to analyze framing strategies for the profession by society at large (macro). One strategy relies on experiences of identity and belonging, while the other moves away from considerations of identity. I discuss what their respective advantages and disadvantages might be. I connect these strategies to the concept of “identity politics” and its counterpart “identity override”. For the final step of this article, I resort to some examples of groups that have made progress in the political agenda with their civil rights claims. It helps me make the case for a bi-faceted strategy for the advancement of community interpreting that both leverages identity group dynamics and is simultaneously able to appeal to the overarching concept of communicative autonomy.
