Reading and writing are fundamental skills students need to succeed in college, making literacy development an issue of education equity. The literacy skills can be content-specific, indicating faculty members across disciplines need to support student development of appropriate literacy skills. The extent to which faculty members support student literacy development is likely associated with their literacy-focused education equity mindset. The goal of our research was to document the mindset of faculty members across multiple disciplines. We gathered a combination of quantitative and qualitative data from 345 college faculty members using a survey. We found variations in the mindset strength between disciplines by the number of students taught, gender, and age. Overall, the faculty members held a moderate literacy-focused education equity mindset. The findings have implications for student inclusion, retention, and completion.

PurposeInternships are an integral part of a college curriculum, yet students are sometimes unaware of how to secure this opportunity. This research aims to determine efficient methods to provide information to students within the given majors, identify barriers on what is stopping students from seeking out internships earlier and identify the appropriate time for students to receive internship information.Design/methodology/approachThis study undertook descriptive research in a preliminary investigation of the undergraduate business students' attitude toward learning about the internship program offered by a business school of a state funded university in Michigan, USA. The data-collection instrument consisted of structured closed-ended questions relevant to undergraduate business students' perceptions and attitude toward learning about the internship program.FindingsThe results of this survey of 631 undergraduate students revealed a relationship between gender and the willingness to gain information about internships. Additional findings revealed that students who received information at the beginning of their schooling were more likely to plan for the internship in advance. Finally, students who preferred to receive information about internships multiple times were most likely to contact their academic advisor or internship director for more resources.Originality/valueTogether, the results of these findings can be used for current institution and other business schools with similar setting to reduce the barriers students face and allow undergraduate business students greater accessibility to internship positions.

Under the outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the philosophy of “Ideological and Political Theories Education in all Courses (IPTEC)” by China’s Ministry of Education, college curriculum reform has become a pressing issue in both form and content. Oral English course is characterized with flexible organization and a wide selection of teaching materials, thus closely related to the shaping of college students’ values. An online teaching mode of oral English featuring “DingTalk + WeChat Group + FiF” is proposed after a mining of “ideological and political elements”, with the sophomore oral English course of School of Foreign Studies, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine as a case. The highlights of this mode are as follows. First, all links of the teaching design are permeated with ideological and political elements, which realizes the blending of explicit and implicit educations. Second, it supports teacher-to-student and student-to-student voice interactions in a multi-party manner at any time. Third, a complex is created where one online classroom is systematically nested in another among the various platforms. Fourth, group and single games enrich the organization of the classroom. Fifth, it provides private and convenient classroom and homework management.

Curriculum is one of the important components that play a role in the process of implementing education for higher education level. In the implementation there are several obstacles, among others, changes in the curriculum system that require educators to master the new system and learners must master the material according to the target of maximum achievement in learning. From these problems, it is necessary to develop a curriculum that integrates the government-defined curriculum and the internal curriculum of institutions developed autonomously by their respective institutions. The purpose of this research is to produce a product guidebook for the design of the curriculum of pesantren universities and its application to STIABI Riyadlul 'Ulum to realize a quality education. The research method used is Research and Development (R& D) and the hypothesis of this research is the effectiveness of the college curriculum design manual pesantren in the academic process of lectures. The method used consists of interviews, tests, questionnaires and written documentation, in analyzing the data, researchers use the t-test formula. The results showed that the implementation of the curriculum design of pesantren universities in realizing quality education has an influence on curriculum development. This can be seen from the T-Test i.e. the T-Count score (t) in this study (-5,591) is greater than the T-Table (2,064). From the results of the t-test, the researchers concluded that the research hypothesis in this study is acceptable. This is evidenced from the significant value of p-value 0.000 (p < 0.05) meaning that there is an influence given from the design of the curriculum of pesantren universities to realize a quality education.

In the mid-1850s, Kelso was a successful schoolteacher and preacher, reading through a college curriculum in his off hours and, intellectually, pushing past the boundaries of Methodist orthodoxy. But his married life was miserable. His wife Adelia was so depressed he feared for her sanity, and he discovered she had been aborting her pregnancies. By the time she confessed she didn’t love him and they agreed to divorce, he had fallen in love with one of his nineteen-year-old students. His marital troubles, however, scandalized his church and the congregation denounced him. Publicly renouncing Methodism, he became “a wifeless, homeless, churchless . . . and moneyless wanderer upon the earth.” Feeling reckless, he crossed thin ice on the Missouri River, fell through, and nearly drowned.
