Agile is a software development life cycle (SDLC) methodology that is based on smarter and faster operating principles and techniques. The paper aims to review the agile processes, principles, characteristics, and frameworks for the continuous development of the product while controlling the integration, scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, risk, procurement, and stakeholder management. Traditional product development methods are not much efficient to adjust the rapid changes of the requirements and provide quality products to the stakeholders. Using agile frameworks, the software development team, customers, and team leaders work more closely to produce high-quality products responding to the changes rapidly. This paper will also present the background analysis of the agile manifesto and will serve as a guide to indicate the characteristics and framework of Agile which places customer satisfaction at the highest priority. Additionally, it will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of the agile projects for faster and frequent delivery of the development.

Purpose This study aims to develop an innovative and comprehensive framework to address water-related challenges faced by communities located in urban settlements in the area of Greater Cairo. It is commonly accepted that such global challenges that border issues of resilience, community development, social equity and inclusive growth, call for a collaboration of disciplines. Such collaboration allows for the identification of synergies in ways that can enlighten and enrich the space of potential solutions and create pathways towards robust solutions. Design/methodology/approach The research process has been participatory, and it involved, apart from site interviews, engagement via a photographic exhibition, during an outreach and engagement event, of the researched sites in one of the academic institutions of the authors. A total of 12 women were interviewed and the expert’s workshop was attended by 12 experts. Findings Social innovation can promote agile processes to prototyping services, involving multiple sectors and stakeholders through open ecosystems. For urban settlements undergoing rapid expansion, social innovation can help communities and governments to build resilience in the face of resource gaps – often making use of advancements in technology and improvements from other disciplines (Horgan and Dimitrijevic, 2019). For the unplanned urban areas around Greater Cairo, input from different knowledge areas can offer valuable contributions; in terms of the project and the study that we report on in this paper, the contributing areas included architecture and urban planning, as well as women-led entrepreneurship targeting economic growth, social and community impacts. Originality/value In this paper, we demonstrate the significance of a transdisciplinary framework based on social innovation, for the study of women-led entrepreneurship as a response to water-based challenges within an urban settlement. The creation of such a framework can be a significant contribution to conceptualise, examine and respond to “wicked challenges” of urban sustainability. This paper also believes that the readership of the journal will be subsequently benefitting from another way to conceptualise the interplay of theoretical perspectives at the level of organisations and the individual to support the inquiry into such challenges.

The Unified Modeling Language (UML) arisen intending to unify the many modeling languages and become the universal language for software modeling. Since its creation, more than 25 years have passed. With the growing success of agile methodologies for software development, supported by less modeling and documentation manifest, the use of UML-driven software processes has decreased, thus a specific subset of diagrams has been adopted, such as use case, class, and sequence. On the other hand, in academia, UML is still being taught in Computing courses, most of the time without knowing whether what is taught is what the industry needs for practical use. This paper presents an overview of the UML adoption in IT companies of the region. We analyzed quantitative and qualitative data to support academia at focusing on the most used UML diagrams by practitioners. We constructed a survey composed of 21 questions, distributed to 10 region companies, and we received 24 answers. The results of our study show high usage of UML, including companies adopting agile methods. Certain diagrams are more intensively used, for instance, use case diagrams. The results provide directions to improve UML teaching, focusing on diagrams that best adhere to the development processes employed, in particular, agile processes.

Coronavirus disease 2019 is a major disaster for apathy bureaucracy, so the government is required to be able to provide public services in limited interactions. Therefore, the dynamic governance ability shown in this study aims to reveal public expectations in public services during Covid-19 through policy, and to understand the realization of objectives that must be fully understood. As well as how the democratization of public services should be the road to service excellent seen based on the theory of dynamic capabilities that are part of dynamic governance, where able people and agile processes become the benchmark of good implementation of public services, using 3 indicators namely Thinking Ahead, Thinking Again, and Thinking Across. all this is a process towards democratizing public services in Indonesia. This research is a qualitative method with a library study approach. The results stated that Indonesia needs to transform public services using the concept of dynamic capabilities in order to realize the democratization of public services.

Nowadays, the buzzwords for organizations to be prepared for the competitive environment’s challenges are sustainability, digitalization, resilience and agility. However, despite the fact that these concepts have come into common use at the level of both scholars and practitioners, the nature of the relation between sustainability and resilience has not yet been sufficiently clarified. Above all, there is still no evidence of what factors determine greater resilience to change in an organization that also wants to be more sustainable, especially in times of crisis and discontinuity. This research aims to explore from a theoretical point of view, through the construction of a conceptual model, how these dimensions interact to help the business to become strategically resilient by leveraging digitization and agility as enablers. A new view of resilience arises from the study, which goes beyond the well-known ability to absorb or adapt to adversity, to also include a strategic attribute that could help companies capture change-related opportunities to design new ways of doing business under stress. A key set of strategically agile processes, enabled by digitalization, creates strategic resilience that also includes a proactive, opportunity-focused attitude in the face of change. Strategic resilience to lead to organizational sustainability must be understood as a multi-domain concept quite similar to the holistic view of sustainability: environment, economy and society. Finally, the research offers a set of propositions and a theoretical framework that can be empirically validated.

AbstractDue to the fast-paced nature of the software industry and the success of small agile projects, researchers and practitioners are interested in scaling agile processes to larger projects. Agile software development (ASD) has been growing in popularity for over two decades. With the success of small-scale agile transformation, organizations started to focus on scaling agile. There is a scarcity of literature in this field making it harder to find plausible evidence to identify the science behind large scale agile transformation. The objective of this paper is to present a better understanding of the current state of research in the field of scaled agile transformation and explore research gaps. This tertiary study identifies seven relevant peer reviewed studies and reports research findings and future research avenues.
