Global Agency between Bond and Bourne : Skyfall and James Bond in Comparison to the Jason Bourne Film Series

Skyfall (2012) signals a crisis in global espionage in a post-9/11 era of schizophrenic digital terror. James Bond and his enemy are both internally excluded from their agency—MI6—and this “abjection” leads to terrorist revenge and sovereign reaffirmation. The latter involves a survival test for 007’s vulnerable body while simultaneously recovering a national identity for the United Kingdom. In this sense, James Bond mirrors Jason Bourne, the ex-CIA agent in the Jason Bourne film series. Bourne undergoes a similar abjection yet becomes neither terrorist nor sovereign but instead a symptom of perpetual mind-games. This chapter compares Bond to Bourne to enable a cognitive mapping of the twenty-first-century espionage genre and its global system of sovereignty and abjection.

SURVIVAL ANALYSIS OF CONTINUOUS AMBULATORY PERITONEAL DIALYSIS ON PATIENTS WITH END STAGE RENAL DISEASE IN SARDJITO HOSPITAL PERIOD 2007-2011

Objective: This study was aimed to analyze the survival rate on End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients and underwent Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) insertion surgery. Materials & Methods: The subjects of this study were 58 people diagnosed as chronic renal failure and underwent CAPD insertion surgery. This type of research is retrospective, using medical record data in Sardjito Hospital, and then we performed patient survival analysis with CAPD procedure performed on end stage renal disease patient. Results: In survival test performed on patients who underwent CAPD insertion without considering other factors, the mean survival rate was 40.26 months. Kaplan Meier curve obtained 3 and 5 years survival rate of 62% and 45% respectively. Furthermore, the survival test is done by dividing into two group diabetes mellitus (DM) and non-diabetes mellitus (non-DM). In CAPD-attached patients with DM, has a lower mean survival time compared to non-DM. Mean survival time of CAPD patients with comorbid of DM 36.05 months while non-DM 43.43 months. In this study, the Hazard Ratio was 1.44 (0.69-2.99) DM: Non DM. In the survival test by dividing into two age groups, age group ≥ 55 years and <55 years. The results obtained mean survival time for age group ≥ 55 years 36.02 months and for age group <55 years 43.08 months. Conclusion: Patients with kidney failure who underwent CAPD with comorbid DM had lower survival compared with non-DM. The younger the age of the patient that underwent CAPD insertion, the survival rate increase.

Nghiên cứu ảnh hưởng sức sống của tinh trùng đến kết quả thụ tinh trong ống nghiệm

Đặt vấn đề: Kiểm tra sức sống tinh trùng (sperm survival test – SST) được phát triển như là một xét nghiệm nâng cao để đánh giá khả năng sống của tinh trùng trong điều kiện in vitro. Chúng tôi tiến hành đánh giá sức sống của tinh trùng sau lọc rửa với các mốc thời gian 0 giờ, 24 giờ và 48 giờ từ đó nghiên cứu ảnh hưởng của sức sống tinh trùng đến kết quả ICSI. Đối tượng và phương pháp nghiên cứu: Nghiên cứu hồi cứu trên 100 cặp vợ chồng vô sinh điều trị tại Trung tâm Nội tiết Sinh sản và Vô sinh – Bệnh viện Đại học Y Dược Huế (HUECREI) từ tháng 01/2017 đến tháng 12/2017. Mẫu tinh trùng được lọc rửa vả nuôi cấy. Độ di động, sức sống được đánh giá sau khi nuôi cấy cùng với kết quả ICSI. Kết quả: Nhóm có sức sống tinh trùng bình thường (tỷ lệ tinh trùng sống ≥58% sau 24 giờ và ≥20% sau 48 giờ nuôi cấy) – nhóm 1 cho MSI (motility survival index) và VSI (vitality survival index) cao hơn nhóm 2 – nhóm có sức sống tinh trùng bất thường, lần lượt là 55,7% so với 26,72% và 77,83% so với 41,47% (p<0,05). Tỷ lệ thụ tinh và tỷ lệ tạo phôi tốt của nhóm 1 (85,29% và 71,38%) cao hơn nhóm 2 (81,74% và 50,15%). Nhóm 1 có tỷ lệ thai lâm sàng và tỷ lệ thai diễn tiến (lần lượt là 38,18% và 29,1%) khác biệt so với nhóm 2 (lần lượt là 24,44% và 28,89%). Kết luận: Tỷ lệ tinh trùng di động tiến tới và sức sống tinh trùng giảm dần theo thời gian nuôi cấy. Sức sống tinh trùng có mối tương quan đến kết quả thụ tinh trong ống nghiệm: kết quả thụ tinh trong ống nghiệm tốt hơn khi sử dụng tinh trùng có sức sống bình thường, nhóm sử dụng tinh trùng có sức sống bình thường có tỷ lệ thụ tinh, tỷ lệ tạo phôi tốt, tỷ lệ thai lâm sàng và tỷ lệ thai diễn tiến cao (lần lượt là 85,29%, 71,38%, 38,18% và 29,1%).

Effect of LDL Addition Into Selected Bull Sperm Diluters on Resistance of Spermatozoa Against Cold Shock

The aim of work was to determine the effect of LDL cholesterol addition into selected diluters on the resistance of spermatozoa against cold shock and on their short-term survivability during cold test. The hypothesis was that the addition of LDL cholesterol will positively affects sperm resistance to cold shock and ensures a higher survivability of spermatozoa during short-term cold survival test. Four bulls of different breeds and ages, from the same sire insemination center were used. A total of eight semen collections were processed. Each ejaculate was divided into 6 portions (3 controls and 3 samples). Three commercially produced diluters, AndroMed®, Bioxcell®, and Triladyl® were used, each in standard and LDL enriched variants. In the case of AndroMed® or Bioxcell®, 6% of LDL was simply added. In Triladyl®, 10% of LDL replaced the standard egg yolk component. Spermatozoa resistance to cold shock was evaluated by the percentage of live sperm using Eosin-Nigrosine staining. The results showed the influence of bull individuality as an important factor. It is possible to recommend Bioxcell® with addition of LDL cholesterol in 6% concentration, which survivability was 69.17% at the beginning of the test, and 52.94% after 2 hours of incubation.
