Abstract Two qubit density matrices which are of X-shape, are a natural generalization of Bell Diagonal States (BDSs) recently simulated on the IBM quantum device. We generalize the previous results and propose a quantum circuit for simulation of a general two qubit X-state, implement it on the same quantum device, and study its entanglement for several values of the extended parameter space. We also show that their X-shape is approximately robust against noisy quantum gates. To further physically motivate this study, we invoke the two-spin Heisenberg XYZ system and show that for a wide class of initial states, it leads to dynamical density matrices which are X-states. Due to the symmetries of this Hamiltonian, we show that by only two qubits, one can simulate the dynamics of this system on the IBM quantum computer.

The analysis of equilibrium in the Mg–Ni system was carried out. Alloys on its basis are promising for use as sorbents and hydrogen storage (START). The conditions for the production and operation of such alloys imply strict control of the pressure of hydrogen. In this regard, phase equilibria in the Mg–Ni system must be considered not only depending on the composition and temperature, but also on the pressure of hydrogen. The most complete graphical representation of the equilibrium in the Mg–Ni system is given by a three-dimensional state diagram: pressure-temperature-composition (p–T–x), the projection of the three-phase equilibrium lines of this diagram on the pressure-temperature plane (p–T-state diagram), isobaric and isothermal sections of the diagram, diagram in pMg–T coordinates. Based on the analysis of experimental data on equilibrium in this system, the article presents the most important options of the listed types of diagrams. The presented diagram variants can be useful in optimizing the technology and operation of sorbents and START alloys of the Mg–Ni system.

How to analytically deal with the entanglement and coherence dynamics of separated Jaynes–Cummings nodes with continuous-variable fields is still an open question. We here generalize this model to a more common situation including either a small or large qubit-field detuning, and obtain two new analytical formulas. The X-state simplification, Fock-state shortcut and detuning-limit approximation work together in an amazingly accurate way, which agrees with the numerical results. The new formulas almost perfectly predict the two-qubit entanglement dynamics both in sudden death and rebirth phenomenon for detuning interactions. We find that when both the qubit-field detuning and amplitude of coherent states are large enough, the maximal entanglement and coherence peaks can be fully and periodically retrieved, and their revival periods both increase linearly with the increasing detuning.

The X State University Community Playground Project (XSUCPP) employs community-based design techniques in which college students in biological engineering work with local constituents, especially children, to design and build playgrounds that reflect the unique aspects of the community which the playground will serve. In developing a community-based design process, members of XSUCPP realized that there is a dearth of literature in this area. Therefore, members sought to develop an initial set of community-based design principles and best practices that engineering practitioners could use in their own community-based design endeavors. The team completed brainstorming and concept mapping exercises using a combination of individual and group techniques to create an initial set of community-based design principles, presented here. The XSUCPP members believe that each of these principles supports the overall goal of community-based design: to express “the Soul of the Community” through co-created artifacts.
