Childhood cancer patients experience emotional hardship associated with their life-threatening diagnoses. Interdisciplinary team members working in pediatric cancer care can help alleviate physical pain and psychological suffering of children by facilitating collaborative legacy-building activities with patients and families. The contents of this article aim to support legacy building as a medium for emotional healing prior to the end of life. The authors use a case review to contextualize legacy-building projects and provide a comprehensive overview of methods and considerations for these initiatives.

Project schedule management is an important part of prefabricated construction project management. General contracting is an effective way to promote the development of prefabricated construction. However, at present, from the perspective of general contracting, the risk factors affecting the project progress of prefabricated buildings are not clear, and the relationship between risks is not known. The purpose of this study is to study the composition, hierarchical structure and transmission path of schedule risk factors of prefabricated construction in general contracting mode, so as to help the general contractor formulate effective schedule risk avoidance measures. This study uses grounded theory to obtain 22 risk factors that affect the progress of assembly building projects, and the data are from expert interviews. Using Delphi method and interpretative structural modeling (ISM), these factors are divided into seven levels, and the ISM model of schedule risk factors is constructed. The research shows that there are 60 progress risk transmission paths, and four progress risk transfer chains are obtained. When conceiving the project of a building, we understand that it will be interacting with the ground through a "soil-structure" system, and that it will be the appropriate interaction between the ground and the foundation that will guarantee functionality and stability from the geotechnical perspective as structural of the project. Today we identify buildings that present problems concerning structural stability due to a deficient geotechnical study that entails a negative impact from the point of view of safety, functionality and economics of the project. The professional in charge to determine the geotechnical conditions of a site is the Geotechnical Engineer or Engineer specializing in Soil Mechanics, in fact, it must be a professional with comprehensive training with knowledge in various disciplines such as geotechnics, structures, foundations and construction. The document with which we base ourselves to establish the guidelines to follow from an analysis and design perspective is the geotechnical study. This document also allows us to understand the possible threats to which the project will be at some point and how to carry out the analysis and design of the buildings, so that they can interact in perfect harmony with their surroundings. By means of a case study concerning the project of a sustainable rural house, we show the stages and elements that make up the report of the geotechnical study that was carried out, indicating the development, analysis and methodology of the study, as well as the various elements that comprise it.

PurposeAdvocates of structured stakeholder management (SM) processes have emphasized the use of the appropriate strategies as the most important process in SM. Yet, research effort in this regard in developing countries has been inadequate. The purpose of the study was to examine the SM strategies used on building projects procured by private corporate organisations in south-western Nigeria to enhance project performance.Design/methodology/approachThe study used a census survey to select 30 projects managers who indicated (from 106 who responded to a first stage questionnaire) that they have participated in structured SM in the study area between 2008 and 2017. A second-stage questionnaire was designed to elicit information from the respondents. Data analysis was done with the use of frequency, percentile and mean score (MS) and analysis of variance (ANOVA).FindingsStakeholders with high power and high interest were managed with the use of “collaborate/partner” strategy (MS = 3.86), stakeholders with high power and low interest were “kept satisfied” (MS = 4.09), stakeholders with low power and high interest were managed by using “keep them informed regularly” strategy (MS = 4.10) and stakeholders with low power and low interest were managed using “monitor and respond when necessary” strategy (M = 3.94). Further results show that static stakeholders with high power were managed by using the “monitor constantly” strategy (MS = 4.11), stakeholders with high power, high legitimacy and high urgency were managed by adopting the “keep satisfied” strategy (MS = 4.26), to manage non-supportive stakeholders, project managers adopted the “keep satisfied” strategy (MS = 4.18) and supportive stakeholders were managed by using “involved” strategy (MS = 4.02). More results showed that there is no significant difference in the opinion of project managers on SM strategies employed irrespective of procurement method.Practical implicationsThe study provided a guide to project managers on the appropriate SM strategies to use for future projects.Originality/valueThe study was an attempt to appraise the SM strategies in relation to the procurement methods and their relationship with project performance.

The building construction project is one of the activities that can pose a safety risk. Work safety risk assessment can be done using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method and looking at the Risk Priority Number (RPN) value. The purpose of this research is to take a case study of the building Office in determining the highest RPN and provide recommendations on its management. This project consists of 13 earthworks, passenger hoist, tower crane, scaffolding jobs, ironworks, formwork work, foundry work, mechanical, electrical plumbing (MEP) work, welding work, and floor wall doing works, and ceramic installation work. The highest RPN from the observations occurred in Iron Fabrication which can cause fingers hit by a bar cutter and bender. In this case, personal protective equipment (PPE) is significant in preventing these impacts from occurring in the project work area.

The results of fundamental and applied research, carried out by Magadan Branch of GS RAS during 2016-2020 in Magadan and Chukotka regions are presenting. Estimation of Seismic hazard of Russia’s Northeast (Magadan region) and seismic hazard maps for recurrence periods of 500, 1000 and 5000 years in scale close to that of detailed seismic zoning (DSZ) were made in cooperation with Institute of the Earth’s Physics RAS. In course of this work the estimation of initial seismic intensity and parameters of possible ground shaking in areas of critical facilities of Magadan region were made. For all of them a seismic micro zonation was carried out with methods of direct earthquake registration and comparing acoustic impedance. As result, a seismic amplification and intensity of seismic impact on the soils under main critical facilities were obtaining. The research results are shown on detailed seismic zoning maps that are basic for building projects of objects above.
