This study generally aims to design context-based video instruction in accordance to TPACK framework in order to enhance the conceptual understanding of the students with regards to cell biology. The current study assessed the level of conceptual understanding of 73 Grade 11 student-respondents of Quezon Science High School in cell biology prior to the utilization of context-based video instruction. It sought to test the significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores in the said discipline. This study identified the level of acceptability of the context-based video instruction as perceived by the student-respondents in terms of learning objectives, accuracy, appeal, clarity, and usability. The respondents are enrolled in STEM strand of Senior High School, S.Y. 2020 – 2021. Questionnaires and the context-video instruction were developed and validated to assess and evaluate the research objectives of this study. The topics in cell biology obtained an overall MPS value of 31.15%. It means that the student-respondents have specific misconceptions about the different concepts in the said topic prior to the utilization of the said learning digital resources. The appropriateness of the language, general appearance of the teacher, quality of video, lighting, animation, and video transitions were some of the parameters considered in designing the video lectures. The overall t-value of 59.57 is greater than the tabular value of 1.99. It implies that the developed context-based video instruction in enhancing the conceptual understanding in cell biology is a valid tool in the teaching-learning process. Furthermore, the developed context-based video instruction in enhancing the conceptual understanding is commendable for use in terms of learning objectives, clarity, accuracy, appeal, and usability.

The aim of this study is to determine the socioeconomic background of students at science high schools and to examine their preferences and placements into higher education programs on a yearly basis. The data regarding the socioeconomic background and placement into higher education programs of 103,635 students who graduated from science high schools between 2011 and 2019 were analyzed. The results show that there has been a partial decrease in the science high school graduates' placement into higher education programs in recent years. This finding seems to be related to the higher education quotas, rather than a dramatic change in the performance of graduates. Nevertheless, the total number of graduates placed into medicine and engineering programs continued to increase between 2011 and 2019. The results also show that placement ratios of graduates to their first, first five, and first ten preferences have decreased remarkably in recent years. The findings indicate that the imbalance of supply-demand in higher education adversely influences the graduates of science high schools, who are among the highest performing-students. The authors suggest a reevaluation of the current higher education quotas to allow an increased access to higher education. Further, our findings show that graduates have a distinct advantage in terms of their parental income and level of education. The authors suggest strengthening remedial education to minimize achievement differences in primary education and to improve the equality of opportunity in secondary education.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationships between the science high school optional curriculum, knowledge coherence, and science academic success of first-year students at university. The correlational quantitative approach, the structured questionnaire, and a non-random sample of students were selected to be used in the study. The study found a high positive correlation between science high school optional curriculum and science academic success variables (r = 0.608). It is also revealed that the total variance of science academic success explained by knowledge coherence level is 33.8%, the other variance may be explained by other variables. The study found that high school optional curriculum, as well as knowledge coherence, predicts science academic success.

Students left behind by their overseas employed parents has become a commonphenomenon in the Philippines. Most parents practice materialism to compensate for theirabsence. However, materialism may result to prevalent impacts on the students’ academicbehavior. The study used phenomenological design to determine the influences ofmaterialism on the Grade 9 students’ academic behavior enrolled at Virgen MilagrosaUniversity Foundation Special Science High School. The sample population wasobtained by non-probability quota sampling whereby only 20 students who have overseasemployed parents and have been affected by materialism were the participants. Thestudy used a profile form and an unstructured interview as tools for data collection. Thedata gathered were analyzed to answer the study’s research questions. The major findingsof the study showed that materialism positively affects the students’ academic behaviorprimarily because of the advantages, rewards, and parental inspiration. Materialism alsonegatively affects the students’ academic behavior mainly by causing distractions, wrongpriorities, and poor conducts. Additional results relevant to the study were the differentinsights of the students about parental materialism and the leading materials they receive. The study concluded that materialism influences the students’ academic behavior bothpositively and negatively based on different conditions. It was recommended that thefindings of this study would be useful to the relative persons in understanding theirsituation broadly and in making solutions to resist the stated dilemma.

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to develop problem-based learning-oriented worksheets for students of class XI science high school that are valid and practical. The development model used in this research is 4-D models consisting of define, design, develop and disseminate stages. Research is limited to the develop stage. The subjects in this study were students of class XI science at one of the senior high schools in Batusangkar. The results of the validity test show that the problem-based learning-oriented worksheets are very valid, namely 85.33% in terms of the feasibility aspects of content, language and images, presentation and graphics. The practicality value by educators and students shows that this problem-based learning-oriented LKPD has very practical criteria, namely 87.49% in terms of the ease of use of the LKPD, the time required to fill out the LKPD, easy to interpret by students and has the same equivalence for students. Keywords: LKPD, practicality, problem based learning, validityABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan LKPD berorientasi  problem based learning untuk peserta didik kelas XI IPA SMA yang valid dan praktis. The functions of literature are diverse. However, the main task of strong interaction is educational, aesthetic and enlightenment.
