AbstractLeadership is inherently social. Being grounded in the Lewinian framework of field theory, I am instancing the diverse understanding of social leadership: Uncertainty reduction, making choices, assuming responsibility, and contributing to an orchestral interplay between followers are important functions of social leadership. But this is not sufficient. Organizations are built by concrete agents with concrete needs and overreaching goals. These needs and goals structure the environment (personal culture) of various employees including the leader. Drawing on an empirical case from a bakery as well as on Lewinian cases from the past, I am showing how group atmosphere alone is not able to cover the full range of the follower’s reactions: Here, we need to rely on basic concepts of culture: Employees live and work in their related life spaces. Complexity arises in organizations if the goal pursuit between followers themselves is contradictory, thus if their life spaces are a barrier for each other. The leader needs to realize here that this is not a disadvantage; his role is neither to solve these contradictions nor to present a potential solution. The leader needs to emphasize the interdependence of his followers; s/he can do so by letting them experience the issues and difficulties of the social other encountered in their respective life spaces. Here, followers are getting a glimpse into the life space (personal culture) of a colleague. Such border experiences play a key role for the following democratic exchange of how two previously contradictory life spaces are turned into conciliatory ones.

The study of Shakespeare’s plays, apart from the delight one may experience from the language, plot, and staging, offers useful insights into the enduring problems of human relationships in general and of organizational behavior in particular. Using as text material the tragedy of King Lear and the comedy Measure for Measure, this paper addresses one such organizational problem, succession, the transfer of power from one chief executive to another.

The article is devoted to the improvement of operational-search legislation in the field of organization of operational-search activities in the criminal Executive system, in particular, the grounds and conditions for conducting operational-search activities that restrict the constitutional rights of citizens, as well as their conduct in relation to those sentenced to non-custodial sentences. The main legal and organizational problem is the lack of legal grounds for conducting operational search activities that require court approval when conducting search work and, as a result, the inability to use the entire set of tools and methods for solving crimes, as well as an incorrect interpretation of article 18.1 of the criminal code of the Russian Federation.

Subject. The article analyzes the international application of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) so as to evaluate and use successful practices of implementing and applying them, and avoid typical errors in settling and harmonizing the Russian accounting practice in accordance with the IPSAS. Objectives. I formulate what mainly distinguishes the international use of the IPSAS. Methods. The study is based on the comparative analysis method. Results. As a result of the study, I discovered some difficulties in implementing and adopting the IPSAS. In theory, the difficulties can be divided in two groups, i.e. technological, organizational and financial. The technological difficulties arise from the use of modern ICT ensuring fast and quality financial reporting under IPSAS. The organizational problem is about finance. Accounting reforms, accounting staff training entails considerable governmental spending. Conclusions and Relevance. Reforming the financial (budgetary) accounting process and financial reporting in Russia, authorities should refer to the international experience in the IPSAS. Doing so, they will be able to streamline the harmonization of financial reporting.

This work discusses the role of industrial policies within an evolutionary view of innovation and learning as drivers of economic development. Building on the notions of technological paradigms and trajectories, it links the processes of catching up with the dynamics of capability accumulation within and across firms. Technological paradigms provide a structure to the knowledge embodied in individual and, even more importantly, in organizational problem-solving procedures and routines, which collectively define the technological and organizational capabilities of firms and whole countries. The improvement of such capabilities is at the core of the process of development and catching up, well beyond sheer capital accumulation. In turn, such processes are embedded in broader national systems of innovation in which industrial policies play a pivotal role.

Nursing burnout is a common and costly organizational problem that affects both nurses and patient care. Health behaviors, such as healthy nutrition, and adequate sleep and exercise, have been cited as burnout reduction strategies. At Mayo Clinic, the authors developed an educational program for nurses and other healthcare team members to address burnout and consider strategies to navigate work and life stressors. Audience participation software measured the percentage of audience members meeting criteria for burnout, as well as confidence in their ability to manage three basic health-influencing behaviors that included eating, sleeping, and moving well. Findings revealed a high prevalence of nursing burnout and low confidence in achieving healthy nutrition, sleep, and exercise. In this article the authors review selected background information about self–care, describe the course design and implementation of an educational program, and discuss findings from a brief survey included in the program. Their discussion considers their findings in relation to select literature and identifies needs for further inquiry and project limitations. They conclude by encouraging the profession of nursing and nurses to continue efforts to support self-care through healthy behaviors throughout their careers.
