Deki Electronics was a Noida based capacitor manufacturing firm. By virtue of being a technology-based manufacturing firm, it was susceptible to risks of technology obsolescence. The company got a major shock when the lighting industry shifted from CFL to LED-based lighting within a very short span of time. Innovation was the only key to their survival. The case explores how they learnt to manage technological innovations and explores the question that how to avoid such technological shocks.

Phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (pc-LEDs) are emerging as an indispensable solid-state light source for the next generation lighting industry and display systems due to their unique properties. Nitrides with their wide-ranging applicability due to their intriguing structural diversity, their auspicious chemical and physical properties represent an essential component in industrial and materials applications. Here, we present the successful adsorption of Eu and Tb at the grain boundaries of bulk β-Si3N4 and β-Ge3N4 by a succeeding combustion synthesis. The adsorption of europium and terbium and the synergic combination of both resulted in intriguing luminescence properties of all compounds (red, green, orange and yellow). Especially the fact that one host can deliver different colours renders Eu,Tb-β-M3N4 (M= Si, Ge) as prospective chief components for future light emitting diodes (LEDs). For the elucidation of the RE adsorption on the electronic properties of β-Si3N4 and β-Ge3N4, Mott-Schottky (MS) measurements were conducted for the bare and RE adsorbed samples. Further insight on the electronic structure of β-Si3N4 and β-Ge3N4 were obtained via density functional theory (DFT) computations.

The research context for this article is a specific lighting industry professional event, focusing on the possible future of light across the dimensions of body, object (both human-scale and building), and metropolis. Light becomes the theme to generate visions and insights about longer term developments from personal, social, and business viewpoints. The event was designed as a location-specific format for the multi-awarded Silo 486, Helsinki, by Lighting Design Collective. The format is inspired by Brian Eno’s 1970s “Oblique Strategies,” therefore an approach derived from fine arts and popular culture, within the constructivist episteme. The specific target of this event is thought leaders and/or the next generation of architectural, design, and creative industry leaders, with an invitation list of 15–20, selected according to the “Elite Club” open innovation principle (Verganti et al., 2008). The event was held three times, from 2014 through 2016, during the Helsinki Design Week, as integral part of its program. The authors were main initiator and moderator of the event, as they designed the format in 2014.

This review article aims to summarize the potential of using renewable natural resources, such as lignin and tannin, in the preparation of NIPUs for wood adhesives. Polyurethanes (PUs) are extremely versatile polymeric materials, which have been widely used in numerous applications, e.g., packaging, footwear, construction, the automotive industry, the lighting industry, insulation panels, bedding, furniture, metallurgy, sealants, coatings, foams, and wood adhesives. The isocyanate-based PUs exhibit strong adhesion properties, excellent flexibility, and durability, but they lack renewability. Therefore, this study focused on the development of non-isocyanate polyurethane lignin and tannin resins for wood adhesives. PUs are commercially synthesized using polyols and polyisocyanates. Isocyanates are toxic, costly, and not renewable; thus, a search of suitable alternatives in the synthesis of polyurethane resins is needed. The reaction with diamine compounds could result in NIPUs based on lignin and tannin. The research on bio-based components for PU synthesis confirmed that they have good characteristics as an alternative for the petroleum-based adhesives. The advantages of improved strength, low curing temperatures, shorter pressing times, and isocyanate-free properties were demonstrated by lignin- and tannin-based NIPUs. The elimination of isocyanate, associated with environmental and human health hazards, NIPU synthesis, and its properties and applications, including wood adhesives, are reported comprehensively in this paper. The future perspectives of NIPUs’ production and application were also outlined.

As a component of China’s strategic emerging industries, green lighting is an important industry supporting the high-quality and high-efficiency development of China’s economy, and is also an important way to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction. At present, China has basically established a policy framework to promote the development of green lighting industry, but there is no empirical evidence on the performance of existing policies on energy conservation and emission reduction. Based on the development status of China’s green lighting industry, this paper sorts out the milestones of China’s green lighting industry policy and the current status of the framework of the existing green lighting industry development policies, constructs a policy performance evaluation model for China’s green lighting industry based on the difference-in-difference (DID) model, and evaluates the implementation effects of green lighting industry policies in China from the perspective of energy conservation and emission reduction. The empirical results of China’s 85 cities show that the implementation of green lighting industry policies has significantly promoted regional energy conservation and emission reduction. Finally, this paper puts forward targeted policy recommendations to provide policy support for the transformation of China’s green lighting industry from “large” to “strong”.

This era of disruption has caused turmoil multiple industries, especially the creative industry. One development is the emergence of cafés in public spaces as a place of socialization for the people of Jakarta. This more widespread presence has an impact on the thematic creativity of the interior designs for cafés, restaurants and coffee shops. The number of cafés has seen a significant increase – matching the shifting lifestyle of urban communities. Digital technologies and social media platforms are increasing consumer attention on café decor. Interior designers are required to produce creative and innovative layouts. Lighting has an important role in creating the ambience. Thematic cafés with good lighting will produce a beautiful, comfortable and functional atmosphere. The demand for creative lamp armature designs support creativity designers. Data was collected for this study via direct observations, interviews, and literature studies, and analysis descriptive qualitative methods were applied to consider the approach of lighting concepts, aesthetics and design. Keywords: disruptive, creativity, lighting, cafe, thematic
