The construction of high-density primary schools in Shenzhen is facing new challenges. Therefore, it is essential to look for ways to meet the demand for degrees, realize education and teaching reform, eliminate the shackles of design code, and adapt to the local climate. From the perspective of design methodology, this article discusses the design strategy of Shenzhen’s high-density primary school campus from four aspects: compact layout, multiple functions, open space, and personalized design, aiming to provide ideas for the construction of primary school campuses.

The pollution problem arising from the flushing of initial rainwater and wastewater from accidents while transporting dangerous goods to source water protection areas needs to be solved as soon as possible. Therefore, the design of corresponding environmental protection measures should be considered in the engineering design stage. It is necessary to analyze the specific work in combination with engineering examples. Under this background, this paper first briefly expounds the precautions in accident risk analysis and the design of tank capacity and tank body. Finally, by analyzing actual cases, this paper systematically studies the design strategy of emergency pool in source water protection area, hoping to provide new development ideas for the upgrading of relevant work.

PurposeThis paper highlights the importance of transdisciplinary studies in times of crisis. In the first part, the study shows the benefits of the introduction of literature on biology to better understand the evolutionary dynamics of architecture.Design/methodology/approachThe focus of the research concerns architectural exaptation. In biology, exaptation is a functional shift of a structure that already had a prior but different function. We will also learn that, in biology, all creative systems are redundant and involve variability and diversity.FindingsAs a conclusion, through the comparison between biology and architecture, we will, therefore, try to build an architectural taxonomy that demonstrates how indeterminism is not a subcategory of design. Instead, design paradigms in which redundancy and variable diversity of structures reflect functionalism constitute an equivalent and essential complement with respect to design determinism.Originality/valueIt demonstrates how architectural exaptation, intended as an indeterministic and radical mode of design, can contribute to overcoming the current global crisis because structural redundancy is frequently functional, mostly in ever-changing and unstable environments. For instance, the failure of a planned function of a city can be an opportunity to re-use a structure designed for an obsolete function to respond to unexpected constraints.

Multi-resonance thermal activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) has been promising with large oscillator strength and narrow full width at half maxima of luminescence, overcoming the compromise of emission intensity and energy criteria of traditional charge transfer TADF frameworks. However, there are still limited theoretical investigations on the excitation mechanism and systematic molecular manipulation of MR-TADF structures. We systematically study the highly localized excitation (LE) characteristics based on typical blue boron-nitrogen (BN) MR-TADF emitters and prove the potential triangular core with theoretical approaches. A design strategy by extending the planar π-conjugate core structure is proposed to enhance the multiple resonance effects. Moreover, several substituted groups are introduced to the designed core, achieving color-tunable functions with relatively small energy split and strong oscillator strength simultaneously. This work provides a theoretical direction for molecular design strategy and a series of potential candidates for highly efficient BN MR-TADF emitters.
