In this paper, an attempt has been made to predict the performance of a planing catamaran using a mathematical model. Catamarans subjected to a common hydrodynamic lift, have an extra lift between the two asymmetric half bodies. In order to develop a mathematical model for performance prediction of planing catamarans, existing formulas for hydrodynamic lift calculation must be modified. Existing empirical and semi-empirical equations in the literature have been implemented and compared against available experimental data. Evaluation of lift in comparison with experimental data has been documented. Parameters influencing the interaction between demi-hulls and separation effects have been analyzed. The mathematical model for planing catamarans has been developed based on Savitsky’s method and results have been compared against experimental data. Finally, the effects of variation in hull geometry such as deadrise angle and distance between two half bodies on equilibrium trim angle, resistance and wetted surface have been examined.

Abstract The paper is primarily focused on the description of transport of harmful species in concrete such as chlorides on one side and transport of corrosion inhibitors and nanoparticles used to diminish corrosion of steel reinforcement or seal the microstructure of concrete on the other side. The studied processes are helpful in reverting the chloride induced corrosion of the reinforcement in reinforced concrete structures. The transport mechanisms are summarized with the emphasis on their mathematical description and numerical solution. The paper shows modeling results of the processes including a comparison with experimental data on several typical examples. The efficiency of the methods is shown supported by experimental and numerical results. A good correlation of the models with experiments is achieved.

By the adoption of a drag-buoyancy equality model, analytical solutions were obtained for the drag coefficients (CD) of Taylor bubbles rising steadily in pipes. The obtained solutions were functions of the geometry of the Taylor bubble and the gas volume fraction. The solutions were applicable at a wide range of Capillary numbers. The solution was validated by comparison with experimental data of other investigators. All derived drag formulas were subject to the condition that Bond number >4, for air-water systems.

Abstract Numerical mathematical models of non-contact oil free scroll, Roots and screw vacuum pumps are developed. Modelling was carried out with the help of software CFD ANSYS-CFX and program TwinMesh for dynamic meshing. Pumping characteristics of non-contact pumps in viscous flow with the help of SST-turbulence model were calculated for varying rotors profiles, clearances, and rotating speeds. Comparison with experimental data verified adequacy of developed CFD models.
