Nanolayered double hydroxide (LDH) is a type of anion layered inorganic compound whose bacteriostatic properties have recently garnered much attention. Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a marine pathogen that can lead to aquaculture diseases and substantial economic losses. Therefore, our study assessed the mechanisms by which Mg/Al-LDH prevents V. parahaemolyticus infection. Our results demonstrated that Mg/Al-LDH not only inhibited V. parahaemolyticus growth but also biofilm formation. Moreover, coupling Mg/Al-LDH with hydrogen peroxide and UV irradiation further inhibited the growth and biofilm formation of V. parahaemolyticus. Additionally, Mg/Al-LDH was found to adversely affect DNA and the gelling ability of chitosan. Furthermore, exposing V. parahaemolyticus to Mg/Al-LDH led to a 54.73% and 4.3% inhibition in the expression of the toxic genes tlh and trh, respectively. Mg/Al-LDH also improved the symptoms of V. parahaemolyticus infection in Penaeus vannamei, making this a promising candidate to prevent pathogenic bacteria infection in aquaculture.

Fragrant rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a high-valued rice type and possesses a unique aroma with 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP) as the critical component. However, the cultivation measures in fragrant rice production are far from perfect. In this study, a new organic-inorganic compound fertilizer was made with organic matter, urea, superphosphate, potassium chloride, zinc sulfate, and lanthanum chloride. A four-year field experiment was conducted to investigate its effects on fragrant rice growth, yield formation, and 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline biosynthesis. Three treatments, i.e., (CK) no fertilizer was applied, (IF) the urea, superphosphate, and potassium chloride were applied at 234 kg ha−1, 450 kg ha−1 and 108 kg ha−1, and (OICF) this new fertilizer composed of 10% organic matter, 26% urea, 50% superphosphate, 12% potassium chloride, 1.9% zinc sulfate, and 0.1% lanthanum chloride, was applied at 900 kg ha−1, were adopted in the present study. Across four experimental years, the results showed that the grain yield in OICF treatment ranged between 5.86–8.29 t ha−1, and was significantly (p < 0.05) higher than that in IF treatment and CK. The improvement in grain yield due to OICF treatment was explained by increased effective panicle number per m2 and seed-setting rate. The highest or equally highest chlorophyll content and the net photosynthetic rate at 20, 40, 60, and 80 days after transplanting were recorded in OICF treatment among three treatments. OICF treatment also increased the aboveground biomass of fragrant rice compared with IF treatment and CK. Moreover, compared with CK and IF treatment, OICF treatment significantly (p < 0.05) increased grain 2-AP content by 30–38% and 10–21%, respectively. The contents of 2-AP related precursors, including proline and 1-pyrroline, also increased due to OICF treatment. This study provided a new organic-inorganic compound fertilizer and suggested that it could be used to achieve the goals of high yield and high grain 2-AP content in fragrant rice production.

Sodium persulfate is an environmentally friendly inorganic compound commonly used as an oxidizing agent in chemistry. This reagent undergoes homolytic cleavage in solutions, affording sulfate radical anions that can present several applications. Recently, the SO4.- has been applied in diverse processes, such as the degradation of antibiotics and dyes in wastewater treatment. 1 In organic synthesis, sodium persulfate can be used as an oxidant in transition-metal catalyzed reactions or as an oxidative species in crucial steps in metal-free reactions.2,3 Na2S2O8 is an inexpensive oxidant that is stable and easy to handle, making it a good reagent choice for several strategic synthetic transformations.4 It is synthesized industrially through an electrolytic oxidation process from sodium hydrogen sulfate,5 and recent applications for this compound are presented herein.

The asymmetric unit of the title organic–inorganic hybrid complex [systematic name: ethane-1,2-diaminium hexachloridostannate(IV)–4-methoxybenzaldehyde (1/2)], (C2H10N2)[SnCl6]·2C8H8O2, contains one half of an ethylenediammonium cation, one half of an [SnCl6]2− anion and one p-anisaldehyde molecule. Both the organic cation and the quasi-regular octahedral inorganic anion are located about inversion centres. The organic cations and [SnCl6]2− anions lie in layers parallel to the ac plane with p-anisaldehyde molecules occupying the space between the layers. A network of classical N—H...Cl and N—H...O hydrogen bonds exists between the ethylenediammonium cations and the [SnCl6]2− anions and p-anisaldehyde molecules. These interactions, together with non-classical C—H...O interactions between the ethylenediammonium cations and the p-anisaldehyde molecules, serve to hold the structure together. The crystal studied was refined as a two-component twin.
