The unconventional yeast Yarrowia lipolytica is used to produce erythritol from glycerol. In this study, the role of the erythrose reductase (ER) homolog YALI0B07117g in erythritol synthesis was analyzed. The deletion of the gene resulted in an increased production of mannitol (308%) and arabitol (204%) before the utilization of these polyols began. The strain overexpressing the YALI0B07117g gene was used to increase the erythritol yield from glycerol as a sole carbon source in batch cultures, resulting in a yield of 0.4 g/g. The specific consumption rate (qs) increased from 5.83 g/g/L for the WT strain to 8.49 g/g/L for the modified strain and the productivity of erythritol increased from 0.28 g/(L h) for the A101 strain to 0.41 g/(L h ) for the modified strain. The application of the research may prove positive for shortening the cultivation time due to the increased rate of consumption of the substrate combined with the increased parameters of erythritol synthesis.

Agribusiness is a major generator of waste, which generates significant environmental impacts. However, these residues can have several applications, thus having added value. Among all fruits, the banana has the highest rate of consumption in Brazil, consequently producing large amounts of peel. This work aims to get and characterize the banana peel flour for further application in biofilm production. We performed the physicalchemical characterization of the banana peel and the flour by crushing and drying in an oven (60 °C/24 h). Subsequently, we wash and delignification the pulp for its extraction. The results obtained 43% of total fiber in the flour and, at the end of the delignification process, 1.45 g of cellulose. Therefore, the banana peel presents itself as a potential matrix for application in the production of biofilm.

Abstract To preserve and restore disturbed lands and reduce the damaging impact on air, plants and soil, it is necessary to apply resource-saving technologies. Strip-till technology is recommended for tilled crops. The technical solution is offered to increase the efficiency of the working solution use due to the rational distribution on the objects of influence and increase of its uniformity. That is, it is possible to reduce the hectare rate of consumption of the working solution by using the method of strip chemical treatment of plants. This is achieved by the redistribution of the working solution between the row and the row with the cultivated plant. The technical solution is to equip the serial sprayer with two lines with spray nozzles and special separator bodies. After a quick changeover in the field without the use of special tools, it is possible to switch from continuous spraying to strip spraying and back. At switching over to strip spraying, the spray solution is sprayed strictly along the strips of cultivated plant growth and covers the whole surface of stem and leaves. This allows reducing the cost of liquid chemicalization agents application and accurately redistributing the working solution.

This paper estimated the growth of fertilizer consumption in India and forecasted it upto the year 2030 and both supply side and demand side factors which influences it. The results indicated that consumption of fertilizers had been increased at the rate of 4.16 per cent. The demand side determinants like area under irrigation reflected at the rate of 1.42 per cent growth, average minimum support prices showed a growth rate of 7 per cent and a short term institutional credit registered a growth rate of 17 per cent. Area under irrigation and sum of average MSP encourages the fertilizer consumption substantially. The supply side factors viz., production, import and subsidy were influencing the fertilizer consumption significantly. The total fertilizer demand is expected to reach at 57 million tons by 2030 and at the same time, rate of consumption might enhanced to 277 kg per hectare. It is concluded that import is unavoidable to meet the gap between domestic production and total demand.

The study examined the food choice and nutritional intake of children and adolescents. Specifically, it investigated the healthiness, convenience, and sensation of the food intake of the participants’ sex and age, it also examines the choice of carbohydrate, protein, and vitamin food of the participants. Using survey research design, data were randomly collected from 254 participants of 9-11 years (late childhood) and 12-18 years (adolescent). A research instrument that was adequately validated was used for data collection. The results showed that male participants (58.3%) eat healthy food than female (41.7%) participants, convenience (easy to prepare) and sensation (look, taste and smell) do not affect the nutritional intake of older children and adolescents. Moreover, the result revealed that gender does not contribute significantly to the food choice of children and adolescents, regardless of the age of the participants there is a high rate of consumption of carbohydrate food. The study concludes that the adverse effects of too much carbohydrate food should be taken into consideration, children and adolescents should be encouraged to eat all types of food in their diet except in the case of allergy.

In Ghana families living in large and compound houses desire to have separate energy meters from other occupants. This is because individuals cannot monitor and control the energy consumption of other tenants and results in misunderstanding in energy bill sharing, overcrowding of energy meters on the wall of a building and likelihood of fire outbreak. It is therefore expedient to have a very accurate, efficient and peaceful means of delivering electrical energy to multiple users within a household with just a single energy meter and this has necessitated the introduction of Smart Multi-user Energy Distribution Meter (SEDS). In this paper microcontroller based smart electrical distribution switch that has the capability of allocating independent energy units to several users in a household is proposed. Experiment was done by assigning Energy units of 4kWh, 8kWh and 6kWh to three logging points on the SEDS device representing three different users. A load of 100W was connected representing the consumption of individual user. The results indicate that the rate of consumption is dependent on the total load connected. The SEDS device has different switches allocated to each user which monitor the consumption rate of the user and automatically isolate a user when power gets exhausted which serve the same purpose as several users having different energy meters. However, individual consumption can be monitored and controlled by the user.

Currently, the energy matrix worldwide relies on fossil fuels and the rate of consumption is increasing, so that the depletion of existing reserves is a reality that concerns everyone. The objective of this work was to propose a photovoltaic system on the roof of the kitchen-dining room building of the University of Moa, on which the energy that it is capable of delivering was determined. A simulation of it was carried out in the PV syst software. The results indicated that the installation generates 351 MWh per year with an installed capacity of 230 kW and the installation is made up of 851 photovoltaic modules occupying a useful area of 1.390 m2 .
