Let a particle start at some point in the unit interval I := [0, 1] and undergo Brownian motion in I until it hits one of the end points. At this instant the particle stays put for a finite holding time with an exponential distribution and then jumps back to a point inside I with a probability density μ0 or μ1 parametrized by the boundary point it was from. The process starts afresh. The same evolution repeats independently each time. Many probabilistic aspects of this diffusion process are investigated in the paper [10]. The authors in the cited paper call this process diffusion with holding and jumping (DHJ). Our simple aim in this paper is to analyze the eigenvalues of a nonlocal boundary problem arising from this process.

The data fitting level in probability density function analysis has great influence on the analysis results, so it is of great significance to improve the data fitting level. Therefore, a probability density function analysis method based on logistic regression model is proposed. The logistic regression model with kernel function is established, and the optimal window width and mean square integral error are selected to limit the solution accuracy of probability density function. Using the real probability density function, the probability density function with the smallest error is obtained. The estimated probability density function is analyzed from two aspects of consistency and convergence speed. The experimental results show that compared with the traditional probability density function analysis method, the probability density function analysis method based on logistics regression model has a higher fitting level, which is more suitable for practical research projects.

Data dimensionality informs us about data complexity and sets limit on the structure of successful signal processing pipelines. In this work we revisit and improve the manifold adaptive Farahmand-Szepesvári-Audibert (FSA) dimension estimator, making it one of the best nearest neighbor-based dimension estimators available. We compute the probability density function of local FSA estimates, if the local manifold density is uniform. Based on the probability density function, we propose to use the median of local estimates as a basic global measure of intrinsic dimensionality, and we demonstrate the advantages of this asymptotically unbiased estimator over the previously proposed statistics: the mode and the mean. Additionally, from the probability density function, we derive the maximum likelihood formula for global intrinsic dimensionality, if i.i.d. holds. We tackle edge and finite-sample effects with an exponential correction formula, calibrated on hypercube datasets. We compare the performance of the corrected median-FSA estimator with kNN estimators: maximum likelihood (Levina-Bickel), the 2NN and two implementations of DANCo (R and MATLAB). We show that corrected median-FSA estimator beats the maximum likelihood estimator and it is on equal footing with DANCo for standard synthetic benchmarks according to mean percentage error and error rate metrics. With the median-FSA algorithm, we reveal diverse changes in the neural dynamics while resting state and during epileptic seizures. We identify brain areas with lower-dimensional dynamics that are possible causal sources and candidates for being seizure onset zones.

Abstract On the basis of the Vlasov chain of equations, a new infinite dispersion chain of equations is obtained for the distribution functions of mixed higher order kinematical values. In contrast to the Vlasov chain, the dispersion chain contains distribution functions with an arbitrary set of kinematical values and has a tensor form of writing. For the dispersion chain, new equations for mixed Boltzmann functions and the corresponding chain of conservation laws for fluid dynamics are obtained. The probability is proved to be a constant value for a particle to belong the region where the quasi-probability density is negative (Wigner function).

Background: Kernel-based methods have gained popularity as employed model residual’s distribution might not be defined by any classical parametric distribution. Kernel-based method has been extended to estimate conditional densities instead of conditional distributions when data incorporate both discrete and continuous attributes. The method often has been based on smoothing parameters to use optimal values for various attributes. Thus, in case of an explanatory variable being independent of the dependent variable, that attribute would be dropped in the nonparametric method by assigning a large smoothing parameter, giving them uniform distributions so their variances to the model’s variance would be minimal. Objectives: The objective of this study was to identify factors to the severity of pedestrian crashes based on an unbiased method. Especially, this study was conducted to evaluate the applicability of kernel-based techniques of semi- and nonparametric methods on the crash dataset by means of confusion techniques. Methods: In this study, two non- and semi-parametric kernel-based methods were implemented to model the severity of pedestrian crashes. The estimation of the semi-parametric densities is based on the adoptive local smoothing and maximization of the quasi-likelihood function, which is similar somehow to the likelihood of the binary logit model. On the other hand, the nonparametric method is based on the selection of optimal smoothing parameters in estimation of the conditional probability density function to minimize mean integrated squared error (MISE). The performances of those models are evaluated by their prediction power. To have a benchmark for comparison, the standard logistic regression was also employed. Although those methods have been employed in other fields, this is one of the earliest studies that employed those techniques in the context of traffic safety. Results: The results highlighted that the nonparametric kernel-based method outperforms the semi-parametric (single-index model) and the standard logit model based on the confusion matrices. To have a vision about the bandwidth selection method for removal of the irrelevant attributes in nonparametric approach, we added some noisy predictors to the models and a comparison was made. Extensive discussion has been made in the content of this study regarding the methodological approach of the models. Conclusion: To summarize, alcohol and drug involvement, driving on non-level grade, and bad lighting conditions are some of the factors that increase the likelihood of pedestrian crash severity. This is one of the earliest studies that implemented the methods in the context of transportation problems. The nonparametric method is especially recommended to be used in the field of traffic safety when there are uncertainties regarding the importance of predictors as the technique would automatically drop unimportant predictors.

The article presents selected issues in the field of stochastic simulation of production process-es. Attention was drawn to the possibilityof including, in this type of models, the risk accompanying the implementation of processes. Probability density functions that can beused to characterize random variables present in the model are presented. The possibility of making mistakes while creat-ing this typeof models was pointed out. Two selected examples of the use of stochastic simulation in the analysis of production processes on theexample of the mining process are presented.

We consider statistical experiments associated with a Lévy process X = X t t ≥ 0 observed along a deterministic scheme i u n ,   1 ≤ i ≤ n . We assume that under a probability ℙ θ , the r.v. X t ,   t > 0 , has a probability density function > o , which is regular enough relative to a parameter θ ∈ 0 , ∞ . We prove that the sequence of the associated statistical models has the LAN property at each θ , and we investigate the case when X is the product of an unknown parameter θ by another Lévy process Y with known characteristics. We illustrate the last results by the case where Y is attracted by a stable process.
