During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the public has often expressed great appreciation toward medical personnel who were often shown in the media expressing strong emotions about the situation. To examine whether the perception of people on a physician is in fact influenced by whether the physician treats patients with COVID-19 and the emotions they expressed in response to the situation, 454 participants were recruited in May 2020. Participants saw facial expressions of anger, sadness, happiness, and neutrality which supposedly were shown by physicians who were presented as working either in COVID-19 wards or in an internal medicine ward. Participants rated how competent, empathetic, caring, and likable each physician was, to what degree they would wish to be treated by each physician, and what salary each physician deserved. Physicians treating patients with COVID-19 were seen more positively and as deserving higher pay; they appeared more competent, caring, likable, and were more likely to be chosen as a caregiver compared to physicians not treating patients with COVID-19. The expressed emotions of physicians had a strong impact on how they were perceived, yet this effect was largely unrelated to whether they treated patients with COVID-19 or not such that happy physicians seemed more empathetic, caring, and likable than the physicians who showed negative emotions. Positive regard toward physicians treating patients with COVID-19 was associated with the fact that they were seen as saving lives and not due to the risk imposed by their work.

Despite great appreciation on the important roles played by metacognitive reading strategies in the attainment of comprehension, heightened prevalence of reading difficulties is depicted among Malaysian learners. Therefore, this study aimed at investigating the current status of self-perceived use of metacognitive reading strategies among the ESL learners in six secondary schools in one of the districts in Sabah. Utilizing an adapted version of Revised Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategy Inventory (MARSI-R), data was obtained from 274 ESL learners in the same district. Descriptive analysis was used to determine the mean scores of three sub reading strategies, namely global reading strategies, problem-solving strategies and support strategies. The findings revealed that despite being aware of the use of metacognitive reading strategies, little emphasis was given on optimizing the use of global reading and support strategies, resulting in only medium usage of these two strategies. Therefore, it may be concluded that the findings implied the need to develop a reading comprehension module that incorporates the use of metacognitive reading strategies within reading comprehension instruction to facilitate Malaysian ESL learners to improve their reading comprehension.

With this thesis bringing attention to the region of Wairarapa, it will show awareness to the significant cultural and biodiversity that this district holds that makes it such a rich place within Aotearoa, New Zealand. With two natural features sitting at their doorsteps, Lake Wairarapa and the Remutaka hillside, this region holds much to preserve and want to save. Maori culture holds countless values of the landscape that can be used to heal the land surrounding the lake, which in turn will heal the people living amongst it. These values are held with great appreciation in the culture, many believe all should live with these values for the land. This thesis will help in bringing the Te Aranga Maori design principles to the surface so more can live with the land naturally and not just on it. This research will explore how these design principles can be used in bringing the landscape back to its prior state, and working with natural interventions to bring wahi tapu into the land and its people. In dealing with the current challenges and goals that present generation live with to make Wairarapa one to grow in and with. These ideas can generate discussion to how people might live more sustainably with the use of natural systems in the landscape, to the production of natural products. It will also allow for more research topics to be produced from the older ways people used to live with the land. To show the diverse cultures present today, in how others could benefit from the ways and means they used to be. With dealing with present challenges and needs from today’s generation as we cannot ‘restore’ what once was, we have to ‘regenerate’ a new way of living, that is beneficial for all.

The problem statement of this research is that the Qur’ān has widely discussed the concept of human being in a number of verses, thus, there is an immense need for the Qur’ānic concept of human to be identified and highlighted. This research aims to clarify the concept of human being in the light of the Qur’ān. This study is significant because it identifies and uncovers the concept of human being according to the Holy Qur’ān, which is very essential to develop and qualify the human being to undertake the duties he is assigned with. To reach the objectives of the research, both the inductive and the analytical approaches are used. The findings of the research show that the human concepts of the human nature and his essential essence are incorrect and contradictory. However, the Qur’ānic concept of human being is distinct and unique for the fact that it is divine, given by his creator who definitely knows him very well. The human being in the light of the Qur’ān is known where he comes from, and is distinct in his own creation, he is also a creation that is being highly valued and received great appreciation in the Qurʾān, and given a special status in the universe distinguishes him from all other creations. Yet, this honor and special status make him responsible to fulfill the mission Allah S.W.T. entrusted him with. In addition, he is a free and willing being but responsible, he is also a weak being in himself unless he depends on his Creator. Finally, this research recommends that the human being concept should be determined in the light of the Qur’ān, since it is correct, sound and comprehensive, it also emphasizes to develop an integrated approach to build the human being that takes into account the reality, characteristics and needs of that creature as mentioned in the Qur’ān.

A pesquisa possui caráter explicativo e exploratório. Management and professionalism are highlights in the sports environment, as a result of high investments. Soccer followed the Brazilian historical evolution, having more autonomy over the years. Thus, the objective of the study is to examine the concept of economic rights in special sports contracts and to verify the hypotheses in which this topic has effects in the legal field with the compensatory and indemnity clause. The research has explanatory and exploratory character. The legal framework involving clubs and athletes is important because economic rights are considered a financial asset, since transfers involving soccer players generate revenues that ensure the livelihood of clubs throughout the season. The result obtained in this research is that the amendment promoted by Law No. 12,395/11 ended with a doctrinal and jurisprudential divergence regarding the understanding of the old wording of article 28 of the Pelé Law and if the application of the sporting penal clause was unilateral or bilateral, that is, it may be due to both the club and the athlete. Thus, the new legal text institutionalized the economic rights of the professional soccer athlete to the club with whom he has an active employment relationship and, at the same time, protects the professional athlete by ensuring, through administrative and constitutional mechanisms, the principle of human dignity in contractual relationship with soccer clubs. Keywords: Sports Law.
