If we are going to be able to fight climate change in an effective way there is a need for a profound sustainability transformation of society. The question is how everyday pro-environmental behavior such as climate-friendly food choices should be looked upon in this context: as something that hides the need for structural change, or as a starting point for a profound transformation? The aim is to discuss how emotions related to conflicts encountered when trying to make everyday climate-friendly food choices in a society that is not always sustainable can be used to promote transformational learning. Interviews were performed with 15 adolescents. Emotions felt in relation to conflicts and how the youth cope were explored. The results show that the youth mainly felt individualized emotions of guilt, helplessness, and irritation and that they coped primarily by distancing themselves from emotions felt, but also sometimes in a problem-focused way and through positive reappraisal. Results are discussed in relation to theories about critical emotional awareness and prefigurative politics. It is argued that by taking account of emotional aspects related to everyday conflicts in a critical manner, issues such as justice could be brought to the surface and transformative learning could be enhanced.

Abstract Designers routinely create informal “thinking” sketches to explore a design space, “talking” sketches to communicate design ideas during the early phases of the design process, and “learning” prototypes to test potential concepts. This study presents two new tools to assess novice designers' sketch attributes and prototyping reflections in the context of an introductory design course. First, it proposes a rubric for assessing the quality of early stage design sketches including line smoothness, proportion, and understandability. Of particular note is the contribution of assessing understandability as a metric for sketches as communication tools. This study also presents a tool to capture designer reflections after each iteration of a prototype. Not only does this record what is learned about a design, but also personal and emotional reactions to the process. Sketching-related results show a positive correlation between sketch quality and understandability, indicating the importance of sketch quality especially when designers use sketches to communicate. Results also indicate that early stage sketch quantity, but not quality, is linked with design outcomes. The study also finds a link between frequency of sketching and higher maximum sketch quality scores (i.e. at least one excellent sketch) as well as a correlation between individuals' maximum sketch quality scores and overall design outcomes. Preliminary results around prototyping indicate that reflection on both the technical and emotional aspects of prototyping may be a worthwhile area of further study. Finally, several results point to novice designers' lack of consistent focus on users in their prototyping reflections and presentations.

Educators address teaching and learning within multiple social contexts. Interpersonal relationships and communication are critical to both the teaching and learning processes and students' social-emotional development. The psychological and socio-emotional aspects of development attained through the teaching and learning process enable students to utilize the skills and knowledge to understand and manage emotions and set desired positive goals. The socio-emotional aspect helps to establish and maintain positive relationships with peers and society. This chapter addresses the problems in the field of teaching arising out of COVID-19, with a specific focus on the socio-emotional aspect of school-going children in India. This chapter provides an overview of different dimensions of the teaching and learning process in COVID-19. It brings forth a few recommendations to prevent the negative psychological and socio-emotional effects of COVID-19 on students and teachers.

This article presents the perception of 611 students from public universities in Mexico about online classes in pandemic times. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted. Vygotsky's contributions are taken, especially those related to emotional manifestations. It is concluded that the most important factor in this change is the emotions that are identified as an impulse to act during online classes, given the didactic and pedagogical components, resources, and supports for students that promote learning. This proposes a framework for considering the emotional aspects of positive engagement in students learning online. There is evidence of some balance between the advantages and disadvantages of online education. It also suggests that women perceive more negative emotions such as disappointment and frustration in the online education experience. The teacher, being a vicarious learning model, can innovate in education by promoting peripheral participation with other playful activities that involve abstract, applied, and situated learning.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease, characterized by lesions in the Central Nervous System (CNS) that affects its healthy cells, causing motor and neurological sequelae. This work aims to understand the psychological and emotional aspects of patients inserted into a hospital and diagnosed with MS. Thus, a narrative review of the literature was carried out, investigating the main topics related to the theme, and illustrated through the case report of three patients treated with brief cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, in a tertiary healthcare center in 2021. The literature indicates that, commonly, 30 to 50% of individuals with the disease present significant cognitive impairment symptoms, such as dysarthria, executive dysfunction, and reduced processing speed, in addition to greater depressive symptoms and dysfunctional beliefs. The most common psychological phenomena in the cases referred to were maladaptive cognitive distortions, such as catastrophizing and negative filtering, as well as saddened affection and psychomotor retardation. Considering the common semiology presented by them, and also taking into consideration the characteristics of the family and the social and environmental context in which they are placed, it is evident that there is an influence of these factors on their belief systems and thoughts, as already predisposed characteristics or originated by the progression of the disease. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, such as motivational interviewing and psychoeducation, are shown to be effective for the treatment of dysfunctional comorbidities associated with the disease.

The methods of interior decoration are not only technologies that contribute to the uniqueness and completeness of the conceptual idea of the interior, but also a number of constructive, technological, emotional, psychological and even marketing tasks that must be solved by design methods, and in particular by methods of interior decoration. In this regard, the objects of study are the principles of perception of space, factors that stimulate the study of the architectural environment, ways of recognizing it as an element belonging to a particular object and corresponding to the image of the architectural object. Any interior is a kind of method of communication between an object and a person, it is achieved in various ways that the author – designer models at the stage of project work. In this article, the university is considered as an object and, in order to form the necessary artistic image, the possibilities of synthesizing materials capable of revealing the designer's conceptual idea in an art object are considered. Purpose – in this connection, the goal was set to reveal the technological and artistic features of various objects, in which the combination of different materials makes it possible to convincingly interpret the artistic and figurative tasks of the interior. To implement the research tasks, structural and logical methods were used, which made it possible to conduct experiments at various stages of collecting and processing information and classify various data in the author's tables, diagrams and clusters, which are given in this article. In addition, the article considers the university as a real object of design, and the data formulated in the article can be used in the future as methodological material for the formation of the concept of the artistic image of such educational institutions. The result of this study was the classification of decorative materials used in interior design, analysis and comparative characteristics of various objects that allow analyzing the psycho-emotional aspects of various combinations of materials and their significance for the formation of the artistic image of the interior.

In recent years, conversational agents (CAs) have become ubiquitous and are a presence in our daily routines. It seems that the technology has finally ripened to advance the use of CAs in various domains, including commercial, healthcare, educational, political, industrial, and personal domains. In this study, the main areas in which CAs are successful are described along with the main technologies that enable the creation of CAs. Capable of conducting ongoing communication with humans, CAs are encountered in natural-language processing, deep learning, and technologies that integrate emotional aspects. The technologies used for the evaluation of CAs and publicly available datasets are outlined. In addition, several areas for future research are identified to address moral and security issues, given the current state of CA-related technological developments. The uniqueness of our review is that an overview of the concepts and building blocks of CAs is provided, and CAs are categorized according to their abilities and main application domains. In addition, the primary tools and datasets that may be useful for the development and evaluation of CAs of different categories are described. Finally, some thoughts and directions for future research are provided, and domains that may benefit from conversational agents are introduced.

Perezhivanie is a concept that was originally defined by Vygotsky, but it did not become a part of educational theory until recently. Today the concept has been revived, and it is now used as a way to include emotional aspects into education and educational research. The concept also provides a rationale for describing and forming personalised learning. The present study provides a literature review with the aim of covering the variety in definitions of the concept, as well as the different perspectives that the concept lends to research in general, and to research with focus on early years education in particular. Results show that the concept has been applied within the most common theoretical perspectives in use today (such as social, cultural and subjective perspectives) with an interesting array of outcomes, such as design of educational methods, analysis of different modes of experiencing and development of self-awareness. The use of this concept becomes a shift toward more emotional perspectives of learning and development that may not be altogether positive, as perezhivanie holds the risk of blurring the border between psychotherapy and education, which is something that would provide new challenges for education in general and especially for teacher education.
