Electrical circuits of reactive power compensation on the basis of thyristor control circuits in the power supply system of oil refineries are considered. The main advantages, advantages over traditional reactive power compensation systems and directions of introduction into the power supply system of modern production are formulated.

The study explores the main challenge for human resource management (HRM) of Taiwan-based enterprises in Vietnam in which cross-cultural management and human capital are mainly focused on, and the study also investigates the strategies of HRM of Taiwanese companies in Vietnam in which companies are centralized in localization management, training and development program and incentive and compensation systems of HR practice.. There are six Taiwanese expatriates work in Vietnam invited to participate the in-depth interview to further understand the difficult of HRM they faced with and to find out the strategies of HRM their company offer. The result consistent with the inference earlier that Taiwan-based enterprises have difficult on cross-cultural management and human capital, and then the strategies about localization management, training and development program, and incentive and compensation systems are conducted as well. The study provides critical research implications as well as practical implications for Taiwanese-based companies in Vietnam.

The design of compensation systems and performance evaluation are subject to subjective influences by the compensation authority. The ex-post adjustment of performance measures is one way of adjusting compensation if an uncontrollable event has affected the achievement targeted. Clawback clauses are intended to reduce manipulation in reporting by allowing compensation that has already been paid out or promised to be reclaimed. Whether ex-post adjustments or clawback clauses are exercised is at the discretion of the compensation authority. This dissertation therefore uses experiments to investigate the effect of the relationships between the design and exercise of discretion on employee behaviour.

The article describes the technology of manufacturing conductors for power supply systems for cranes, railway vehicles, powerful critical electric motors and power systems. The results of studies for copper-steel samples are shown; in these systems there is a decrease in material losses due to an increase in the strength and durability of products. The proposed technology can be used to use steel-copper wires in power supply loss compensation systems.

AbstractDuring 2017, we studied knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes towards brown bears by extensive mountain sheep farmers in the Western Pyrenees, using a structured questionnaire, specifically, whether the scarce bear presence, or the administrative region, was influential. Livestock raising practices are mainly family properties and have suffered a strong decline in the last decades. Despite its low abundance (only 2 bear individuals during the study period in the area), there was a generalized negative attitude towards the presence of bears. Farmers considered bear presence as incompatible with sheep mountain herding. One third of them have experienced bear damages, although this was not the main difficulty for the viability of farming practices. They were able to change husbandry practices after wildlife and dog’s damages, increasing vigilance, hiring shepherds, and using livestock guarding dogs, whose work is perceived as satisfactory. Farmers considered that information available about bear and compensation systems for damages was insufficient, and should be improved.

Successful farmland eco-compensation projects need to reflect the heterogeneous preferences both from suppliers and beneficiaries. This paper tries to answer this question by investigating both citizen and farmer preferences for different farmland eco-compensation methods in Wuhan, China, and explore some of the socio-demographic characteristics that contribute to their preferences. Based on the data of 288 citizens and 331 farmers, the multinomial logit model was employed to analyze their preferences for the four farmland eco-compensation methods (monetary compensation, in-kind compensation, technology compensation and policy compensation), respectively. The results show that: (1) Monetary compensation is the most welcomed farmland eco-compensation method among both citizens and farmers. (2) Despite farmers and citizens both putting a high value on monetary compensation methods, citizens are more likely to provide compensation methods that can help farmers improve their living standards in a sustainable method (in-kind compensation, technology compensation and policy compensation). Farmers are less likely to choose the in-kind compensation method. (3) The preference for farmland eco-compensation systems of farmers and citizens are influenced by different socio-demographic characteristics. The results can help the government to design more aimed farmland eco-compensation methods for farmers with different socio-demographic characteristics.

The paper considers issues of increasing efficiency of multilevel power converter based on IGCT and IGBT modules to improve energy performance by compensating reactive power in electric networks. By the example of a local power grid using SEMIS SimulationTool design tool the results of calculations of variants of multilevel converters with IGCT and IGBT are presented. The study of possibilities to increase the efficiency of multilevel power converters (MPE) for reactive power compensation (RPC) in local electrical networks (LES) on the basis of plenipotentiary controlled semiconductor cells is of particular interest, because the efficiency of network operation is insufficient, especially in changing load modes with large electric power losses (PEM). And from these positions, one of the most effective tools are fast controlled (PFC) systems. For this purpose, research has been carried out to obtain the best results. Used in calculations tool and methodology are certified software products and algorithms of ABB-SEMIS Simulation Tool computer design.

Coniferous forests in the Mediterranean: an ecosystem of vital importance, threatened by forest management deficit LIFE FOREST CO2 (Assessment of forest carbon sinks and promotion of compensation systems as tools for climate change mitigation) started in 2016, with a budget of €2,335,417 and a contribution from the LIFE programme of the European Union of €1,401,223 (60% funded), developed in Spain and France the project ended in June 2021.

Abstract Background Workers’ compensation systems throughout Australia implement “step-downs,” which cut the amount paid to injured workers after they have received benefits for several months. Though initially introduced to control rising insurance premiums, step-downs are currently justified as an incentive return to work. Whether they have this effect has never been formally tested. Methods Using administrative claims data, we applied a regression discontinuity study design to test whether step-downs affected weekly scheme exit rates, a proxy for return to work, within eight state, territory, and Commonwealth workers’ compensation systems. We also examined effects by injury type (fractures, musculoskeletal, mental health, and other trauma). To derive generalised effects, we combined results using meta-analyses and conducted meta-regressions to determine whether timing or magnitude of step-downs significantly moderated effects. Results Step-downs reduced scheme exit by 0.86 percentage points (95% CI: -1.45, -0.27). Neither timing nor magnitude of step-downs was a significant effect moderator. There were significant effects in fractures (-0.84, 95% CI: -1.61, -0.07) and sensitivity analysis suggested possible effects within mental health and musculoskeletal conditions. Conclusions The negative effects suggest some workers’ compensation recipients anticipate step-downs and return to work early to avoid a reduction in income. However, the effects were small and suggest step-downs have marginal practical significance. We conclude that step-downs are generally ineffective as a return to work policy initiative. Key messages Reducing the amount of compensation paid to injured workers has a minor incentivising effect on their return to work rates.
