The article deals with the organization of high-quality interaction of various types of passenger transport in the transport- interchange hub. Urban and regional interchange hubs are being studied. A methodology based on the use of quantitative methods and implemented with the help of software products (the developed program "Effective transfers" and the well-known simulation modeling programs PTV Visum, AnyLogic) is suggested. This method is applicable for any city and includes 3 stages. At the first stage, the number of passengers in the transport-interchange hubs who transfer from one type of urban public transport to another is predicted; the direction of passenger traffic is determined; urban routes that require schedule approval are chosen. At the second stage, the number of passengers who use the considered transport-interchange hub to transfer from suburban, intercity transport to urban modes of transport is predicted. At the third stage, the schedule of all types of transport is coordinated; the need for rolling stock is determined; passenger traffic is modeled and studied at the hub in order to rationally organize the planning structure of the transport-interchange hub. The obtained scientific results can be used in the design of a system of transport and transfer hubs and planning the placement of transport and social facilities on the territory of the transport-interchange hub.

One of the most important components of the territorial socio-economic complex of a city (especially a large one) is the system of urban passenger transport, which, in turn, consists of two subsystems: urban public transport and personal vehicles. In 2000-2020. many large and medium-sized cities in Russia are going through a period of active motorization. Izhevsk is no exception in this regard. The level of motorization of the population has been increasing in recent years both in the city and in the Udmurt Republic as a whole. There is a growing need to reduce the flow of personal vehicles towards more active use of public transport. Urban public transport (for all its significant scale) has, as a rule, 2-3 owners and therefore is largely manageable, which cannot be said about personal vehicles. It is not possible to force car owners to switch to public transport by order. But it is possible to create such conditions when the resident himself does not use his own car, but gives preference to public transport. For example, to organize the work of a single parking space, in which the placement of paid parking lots will make it unprofitable to visit many of the most attractive objects (especially in the central part of the city) by private vehicle. An example of such relevant work is shown in the proposed article. By order of the Administration of Izhevsk, the authors of the article have identified the most optimal locations for paid car parks. The choice was determined based on the results of step-by-step work to assess: the location of the potential of Izhevsk public transport, the intensity of traffic flows, the density of the population, the availability of existing parking areas, points of attraction for vehicles.

Several possible options for the location of Pyatiletka transport interchange hub in the Samara city district are considered. In order to determine the optimal option, the hub location is compared by several parameters. Such values as passenger traffic, existing routes of urban public transport, priority directions of passenger traffic, and capital investments in construction are selected as optimization parameters. To determine the values of passenger traffic, an analysis of the existing passenger traffic was performed, with its allocation by capacity and routing. The unevenness of passenger traffic by days of the week and periods of the day is determined, the minimum and maximum values of passenger traffic are revealed, as well as its fluctuations over the considered periods. The construction of public urban transport routes allowed to identify the busiest routes and the availability of transport for different variants of the transport interchange hub location. The options of organizing the possible arrival/departure of urban public transport to/from the transport interchange hub are considered. Using the obtained data, a SWOT analysis was performed to determine the strengths and weaknesses of each hub placement option and the optimal variant was selected.

The advantages and disadvantages of existing tools for calculating passenger flow are shown using the example of the city of Moscow.The objective of the research was to assess possibilities of using Wi-Fi data as a tool for analysing passenger flow. The authors used two types of Wi-Fi scanners and a tool they developed to analyse the collected data. The primary results of the study demonstrate the possibility of practical application of Wi-Fi data to analyse passenger flow.The described empirical studies, particularly data received from the portable Wi-Fi scanner, have shown that more than 20% of mobile devices in urban public transport and metro are used with Wi-Fi enabled, which is clearly not enough to get results necessary for comprehensive and detailed analysis of passenger flows. Nevertheless, the accumulating data allow to get possibility to forecast general passenger flow.A portable Wi-Fi scanner does not provide an opportunity to extensively capture a large area of the surveyed territory in real time (stops of urban public transport, locations where passengers enter the metro, etc.). Stationary Wi-Fi scanners could increase the amount of data and, accordingly, significantly adjust the results obtained. This enhancement could also be achieved through expansion of adoption of the tool of studying passenger flow to urban railways, i.e., in case of Moscow, to Moscow Central Circle and Moscow Central Diameters, as those routes provide Wi-Fi access at stations and in coaches.Data collected from Wi-Fi scanners can be an additional tool to other data sources, such as validation, automatic systems of passenger flow monitoring, and data obtained from cellular operators. For this reason, the further research in the field of Wi-Fi analytics along with development of technology in the field of existing data sources of passenger flow monitoring may result in better calculation of passenger flow.

: Today’s dynamic environment, which is developing at a rapid pace, places high demands not only on transport, but also on efficiency, speed, safety, quality and, in particular, questions about the efficiency of spending funds from city budgets, all with a strong emphasis on the environmental friendliness of urban public transport. Given that the public sector is undergoing changes, the main goal of which is to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of financial management in the public sector, cities must really always place a strong emphasis on ensuring maximum efficiency of services provided and the use of public resources in all expenditure areas of the budget. In the vast majority of cases, the financing of urban public transport currently represents the greatest burden on urban public budgets not only in the Czech Republic but also in cities in the EU. The article presents the outputs that emerged within the project “Methodological - application tools for efficiency financial management of territorial structured statutory city”. The outputs of the article are focused on the area of transport, as it is one of the key areas of the city budget and in terms of expenditure sections, transport expenditures represent the highest amount in the budget of the Statutory City of Ostrava. Geographic information systems (GIS) can be successfully used to analyse efficiency, demand and urban public transport planning. For the purpose of effective presentation of information on the state and drawing of the budget and on the effectiveness of funds spent from the budget of the statutory city and individual city districts, the R-Point web map application was created. An interactive map showing statistical indicators in the area, there are also graphs that serve the user for a better comparison of data between individual city districts and the City of Ostrava.

AbstractWe study urban public transport systems by means of multiplex networks in which stops are represented as nodes and each line is represented by a layer. We determine and visualize public transport network orientations and compare them with street network orientations of the 36 largest German as well as 18 selected major European cities. We find that German urban public transport networks are mainly oriented in a direction close to the cardinal east-west axis, which usually coincides with one of two orthogonal preferential directions of the corresponding street network. While this behavior is present in only a subset of the considered European cities it remains true that none but one considered public transport network has a distinct north-south-like preferential orientation. Furthermore, we study the applicability of the class of matrix function-based centrality measures, which has recently been generalized from single-layer networks to layer-coupled multiplex networks, to our more general urban multiplex framework. Numerical experiments based on highly efficient and scalable methods from numerical linear algebra show promising results, which are in line with previous studies. The centrality measures allow detailed insights into geometrical properties of urban systems such as the spatial distribution of major transport axes, which can not be inferred from orientation plots. We comment on advantages over existing methodology, elaborate on the comparison of different measures and weight models, and present detailed hyper-parameter studies. All results are illustrated by demonstrative graphical representations.

One of the key challenges on the road to sustainable mobility is the development of low/zero emission urban public transport (UPT). This is crucial in order to meet environmental requirements aiming at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. In some countries (e.g., Poland) reduction of air pollution is also an important reason behind the implementation of low/zero emission UPT. The aim of this study is to investigate the factors and mechanisms influencing the development of modern electromobility in Polish UPT. We have examined all 242 UPT systems in the country in terms of the characteristics of the relevant urban municipalities, such as size, economic prosperity, level of human and social capital, development paths of urban public transport in the long term as well as the institutional context and proximity and connections to other cities with experience in electromobility. Classification and statistical methods are used based on a variety of approaches, as assigning a score to various preliminarily identified indicators or applying correlation between quantities to verify the formulated hypotheses. Our analysis demonstrates that electromobility adoption is the result of a combination of favourable economic, urban, social and technological characteristic features of a given city. Zero or low emission buses are more common in large cities which are highly positioned in urban hierarchy, economically sound and which are characterized by a well-developed tertiary economy as well as by high human capital. An additional factor that positively influences the implementation of electromobility—in particular at the very first stage—is proximity to the location of low emission bus producers. The leadership in modern electromobility can be understood as part of a broader, proactive development policy of the cities aimed at improving the quality of life of their residents. This is especially important in medium-sized towns where utilizing electric vehicles can be an instrument to maintain or even develop their role and status. The results of the article may provide a basis for creating sustainable urban policies, especially sustainable mobility and improving environmental quality.

This article presents a study of the attitude of metropolis residents to the environmental development of the urban public transport system. The authors set a goal to assess the influence of values on the assessment of environmental initiatives of city authorities in the field of public transport and their attitude to innovations in this sphere. In the course of the study, four clusters reflecting the values of the respondents were identified. The results showed support for innovations that do not require changes in the transport behavior of the individual. At the same time, we observe differences in the perception of initiatives by representatives of different clusters when the innovation affects their transportation behavior. Hypotheses were tested as an analysis result of empirical data by determining the synthetic indices of values using factor analysis, the classification of respondents based on the obtained indices to identify groups with similar values using cluster analysis, and an analysis of the relationship of the classification results by values using contingency tables and chi-square criterion. The scientific novelty of the study is to assess the impact of values of metropolis residents on the perception of environmental conditions and their change in the city.
