This study aims to apply the process of the analytical hierarchy in geographic information system to the study of water erosion in the southern part of the Azilal region, Morocco. This method is an important tool to be used in the planning and management of natural risks; it has allowed us to obtain a multi-factorial sensitivity map to water erosion. This sensitivity map of erosive soil conditions in the study area shows that 6% of the area is (less) exposed to erosion risk while 85% of the mapped area is moderately exposed to erosion risk and only 8% of the mapped area is highly exposed to water weathering factors.  Visually, the high-risk zones correspond to the area around ‘’Oued Lakhdar’’ and its tributaries.

Magnetic induction tomography (MIT) is a contactless technique that is used to image the distribution of passive electromagnetic properties inside a voluminous body. However, the central area sensitivity (CAS) of this method is critically weak and blurred for a low conductive volume. This article analyzes this challenging issue, which inhibits even faint imaging of the central interior region of a body, and it suggests a remedy. The problem is expounded via two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) eddy current simulations with different transmitter geometries. On this basis, it is shown that a spatially undulating exciter coil can significantly improve the CAS by >20 dB. Consequently, the central region inside a low conductive voluminous object becomes clearly detectable above the noise floor, a fact which is also confirmed by practical measurements. The improved sensitivity map of the new arrangement is compared with maps of more typical circular MIT geometries. In conclusion, 3D MIT reconstructions are presented, and for the same incidence of noise, their performance is much better with the suggested improvement than that with a circular setup.

SummaryAdvances in the treatment of Ewing’s sarcoma (EWS) are desperately needed, particularly in the case of metastatic disease. A deeper understanding of collateral sensitivity, where the evolution of therapeutic resistance to one drug aligns with sensitivity to another drug, may improve our ability to effectively target this disease. For the first time in a solid tumor, we produced a temporal collateral sensitivity map that demonstrates the evolution of collateral sensitivity and resistance in EWS. We found that the evolution of collateral resistance was predictable with some drugs, but had significant variation in response to other drugs. Using this map of temporal collateral sensitivity in EWS, we can see that the path towards collateral sensitivity is not always repeatable, nor is there always a clear trajectory towards resistance or sensitivity. Identifying transcriptomic changes that accompany these states of transient collateral sensitivity could improve treatment planning for EWS patients.

Single-event effects (SEEs) in integrated circuits and devices can be studied by utilizing ultra-fast pulsed laser system through Two Photon Absorption process. This paper presents technical ways to characterize key factors for laser based SEEs mapping testing system: output power from laser source, spot size focused by objective lens, opening window of Pockels cell, and calibration of injected laser energy. The laser based SEEs mapping testing system can work in a stable and controllable status by applying these methods. Furthermore, a sensitivity map of a Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) cell with a 65 nm technique node was created through the established laser system. The sensitivity map of the SRAM cell was compared to a map generated by a commercial simulation tool (TFIT), and the two matched well. In addition, experiments in this paper also provided energy distribution profile along Z axis that is the direction of the pulsed laser injection and threshold energy for different SRAM structures.

With the increase of capacity, most of the circulating fluidized beds (CFB) risers are constricted to have rectangular cross section. Therefore, it is important to find out the cross-sectional aspect ratio effect on the gas-solids flow characteristics. In this study, a lab-scale CFB with two rectangular risers, which have the aspect ratio of 1:1 and 3:1, respectively, were studied by the electrical capacitance tomography (ECT), with the aided of pressure measurements and computational particle fluid dynamics (CPFD) simulation. Key issues related with ECT sensor design and image reconstruction, such as sensitivity map and excitation frequency, are also discussed. The results show that ECT image quality is affected by the sensitivity map and excitation frequency, and high excitation frequency and voltage are not equivalent of high image quality. In the riser bottom region, cross-sectional aspect ratio has big effect on ECT measured particle distribution and pressure drop, fewer particles are brought away from the bottom when the aspect ratio is larger. Multiple bubbles exist in the bottom region at Ve= 2.7 m/s, and bubble size decreases in the rectangular riser with larger cross-sectional aspect ratio. Static bed height influences the bubble behaviour that bubbles with smaller size scattered around and behave collapse or coalescence in the moving process when the static bed height is high.
