Abstract As one of the most effective techniques for fine particle processing, high gradient magnetic separation is mainly used in the separation and enrichment of fine and weak magnetic particles and other important industrial fields. High gradient magnetic separator is a new type of high intensity magnetic separator, which has strong ability to capture fine and weak magnetic particles, developed on the basis of ordinary high intensity magnetic separator. Based on the early periodic- high -gradient magnetic separators, the optimization development direction of high gradient magnetic separators and their application characteristics of various high gradient magnetic separators in these decades were summarized, and the future development directions of high gradient magnetic separator were presented.

Nursery producers are challenged with growing a wide range of species with little to no detectable damage from insects or diseases. Growing plants that meet consumer demand for aesthetics has traditionally meant routine pesticide application using the most time-efficient method possible, an air-blast sprayer, despite its known poor pesticide application efficiency. New variable-rate spray technology allows growers to make more targeted applications and reduce off-target pesticide loss. In this study, a prototype laser-guided variable-rate sprayer was compared with a traditional air-blast sprayer. Pesticide volume, spray application characteristics, and the control of powdery mildew were evaluated over the course of two growing seasons. Spray application characteristics were assessed using water-sensitive cards (WSCs) and DepositScan software. This prototype sprayer reduced pesticide volume by an average of 54% across both years despite being tested against a low rate (<250 L⋅ha−1). In 2016, the conventional sprayer had more than double the deposit density on target WSCs among distal trees than the variable-rate sprayer; however, within proximal trees, there was no difference between the two sprayer types. In 2017, when the trees were larger, within both the distal and proximal trees, the conventional sprayer had greater deposit density on target WSCs than the variable-rate sprayer. In 2016, coverage on target WSCs was nearly 7-fold greater with the conventional treatment than with the variable-rate treatment. In 2017, when trees were larger, there was greater coverage on target WSCs in proximal trees (3.8%) compared with those in distal trees (1.0%) regardless of the sprayer type. This variable-rate spray technology provided acceptable control of powdery mildew severity on individual branches and whole trees and maintained the incidence of powdery mildew to levels comparable to that occurring among trees sprayed with a traditional air-blast sprayer. Therefore, the variable-rate spray technology has the potential to effectively control disease, dramatically reduce the pesticide footprint, and preserve natural resources such as ground and surface water, soil, and beneficial insects found within and around nurseries.

Abstract With the continuous development of computer technology and industrial design technology, the traditional manual drawing design method has seriously affected the effect of industrial design. The research on computer-aided industrial design system has gradually attracted the attention of experts and scholars. This paper expounds the application characteristics of computer-aided industrial design technology from CAD industrial design technology in detail, and finally designs the computer-aided industrial design system according to the more mature hierarchy method and structure method, and conducts detailed analysis and comparison of specific components.

Abstract In this work, experimental research was carried out to investigate the conversion output characteristics of thermobattery. The results showed that under the same temperature difference, the open-circuit voltage of the thermobattery showed a tendency of first increasing and then decreasing with the increase of hot end temperature. Under hot-end temperature of 95°C, the output open-circuit voltage reached the maximum. In addition, there was a maximum output point for the thermobattery. Regarding the thermobattery (TGM-287-1.4-1.5), its output power reached the maximum when the load resistance was 9Ω. This research provides a theoretical and experimental basis for the optimal design of thermoelectric power generation system.

The application potential of functional ingredients for the meat industry is often assessed through different measuring tools, thereby making comparisons difficult. The aim of this study was to create valuable information about the performance of functional ingredients based upon standardized and comparable data gathered through a newly developed screening tool. Therefore, 25 ingredients, selected from different techno-functional classes, were characterized at 2 different dosages by means of the screening methodology. The tool itself consisted of a lean meat model and fatty liver-based system, representative of the finely minced and/or emulsified charcuterie market. A total of 23 different parameters were measured through both model systems, providing information concerning water and fat binding capacity, emulsification, and texture and structure formation. Through cluster analysis, the ingredients were assigned to groups, each with their own specific properties. The screening tool provided good descriptive and distinctive power concerning ingredient functionalities and offers the industry a clear overview of their application characteristics.

Abstract Purpose Only from reviewing applications, it is difficult to identify which applicants will be successful ophthalmology residents. The change of the USMLE Step 1 scoring to “Pass/Fail” removes another quantitative metric. We aimed to identify application attributes correlated with successful residency performance. This study also used artificial intelligence (AI) to evaluate letters of recommendation (LOR), the Dean's letter (MSPE), and personal statement (PS). Design Retrospective analysis of application characteristics versus residency performance was conducted. Participants Residents who graduated from the Dean McGee Eye Institute/University of Oklahoma Ophthalmology residency from 2004 to 2019 were included in this study. Methods Thirty-four attributes were recorded from each application. Residents were subjectively ranked into tertiles and top and bottom deciles based on residency performance by faculty present during their training. The Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program (OKAP) examination scores were used as an objective performance metric. Analysis was performed to identify associations between application attributes and tertile/decile ranking. Additional analysis used AI and natural language processing to evaluate applicant LORs, MSPE, and PS. Main Outcome Measures Characteristics from residency applications that correlate with resident performance were the primary outcome of this study. Results Fifty-five residents and 21 faculty members were included. A grade of “A” or “Honors” in the obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) clerkship and the presence of a home ophthalmology department were associated with ranking in the top tertile but not the top decile. Mean core clerkship grades, medical school ranking in the top 25 U.S. News and World Report (USNWR) primary care rankings, and postgraduate year (PGY)-2 and PGY-3 OKAP scores were predictive of being ranked in both the top tertile and the top decile. USMLE scores, alpha-omega-alpha (AOA) status, and number of publications did not correlate with subjective resident performance. AI analysis of LORs, MSPE, and PS did not identify any text features that correlated with resident performance. Conclusions Many metrics traditionally felt to be predictive of residency success (USMLE scores, AOA status, and research) did not predict resident success in our study. We did confirm the importance of core clerkship grades and medical school ranking. Objective measures of success such as PGY-2 and PGY-3 OKAP scores were associated with high subjective ranking.
