The terminology of fish ontogeny was proposed to clarify and unify the meanings of words for the same intervals and processes across the environmental, linguistic, ideological, and political boundaries irrespective of tradition, belief, or authority. The criticism of this proposal, while defending tradition and authority, failed to discredit the rationale for such a unified terminology.
