"In an effort to increase representation and visibility of the “in between” people and connect my experience to others I began interviewing individuals who were also culturally hybridized. The final iteration of these interviews became a short documentary film titled “Hyphen”, which attempts to represent the perspective of experiencing the world through a fractured/divided sense of self, how people create a sense of belonging for themselves and ultimately how they try and bridge the gaps of understanding between the divided worlds they embody. In this essay I intend to elaborate on my theoretical and field research leading up to the film, my influences and considerations when forming it and finally evaluate its final impact as a finished product."--Introduction.

Money laundering is a global threat that requires an urgent attention of policymakers to protect financial systems from criminals. A jurisdiction is required to develop a regime to control or mitigate the impact of crimes that have multi-dimensional impacts on global economies. Prevention of global crimes is a challenge not only to jurisdiction but also to the global standard setters. The final impact of these crimes hit the financial system and other regulated institutions. Anti-money laundering/combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) supervision is an emerging area; therefore, a sound regime of AML/CFT supervision is essential to support global initiatives in this regard. This chapter discusses the implementation of a sound risk-based AML/CFT supervision of financial institutions as well as designated non-finance business and professions. This is important for AML/CFT regulators to strengthen the AML/CFT regime of a country.

Stopover tourism is an important but neglected area of study. This article combines a discrete choice experiment with eye-tracking measures and self-stated attribute importance ratings to analyze stopover destination preferences. A sample of Australian residents shows safety is the most critical determinant of stopover destination attractiveness based on both the importance ratings and choice model results, but that it does not receive the greatest amount of visual attention. Seven attributes showed little consistency between the methods. However, when the measures are combined into one choice model, there are insights into associations between ratings, amounts of visual attention, and the final impact of an attribute on the choice outcome. Findings indicate the overall importance of each attribute and show how attribute importance varies across the sample and during the choice process. The article thus illustrates how different measures can be combined to study preferences for destination attributes in a specific travel context.

Weber’s concept of “vocation” in science implies “anti-monumentalism”: research can always be continued, and the results obtained can be used in various ways. The scientist cannot be completely aware of the final impact of their work, so they are faced with a paradox of consequences. This paradox is based on value polytheism, a concept put forward by Weber. There are two ideas central to polytheism: first, one must recognize the internal logic of value spheres and, second, one must consider their fundamental incommensurability. But how does this idea emerge in Weber’s theory? Interpretations of value polytheism as a “fact” of a cultural situation and as the logical foundation of science do not allow one to answer the question of its origin. The conceptual bridge is found in Weber’s sociology of religion. Tenbruck’s, Schluchter’s, and Hennis’s models are examined to identify variations of value polytheism. However, their macro-orientation does not demonstrate the internal structure and functioning of polytheism. The present paper explicates the logical-methodological foundations of Weber’s scientific programme to clarify these points. Primarily, it investigates the problem of the consequences of an action carried out in a “vocation” mode and the boundaries of “adequate” causal explanations as presented in Weber’s works. It makes it possible to consider Weber’s value polytheism and concepts associated with it not as value metaphysics or unreasonable axioms, but as a methodologically based conceptual apparatus.

This study aims to determine the impact of LAZNAS Al-Azhar's ZIS fund management in empowering productive youth through the Rumah Gemilang Indonesia program, seen from increased religiosity and increased income. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study strategy. According to the result, it is showed that the empowerment program was implemented through the Rumah Gemilang Indonesia program by LAZNAS Al-Azhar by receiving funding from donors. The synergy of roles and assistance between LAZNAS Al-Azhar and the fostered participants went very well. The final impact felt is an increase in income and moral improvement. Thus, young people can be free from the problem of unemployment and poverty. Keywords: Productive Zakat, Zakat Institution, Empowerment, Unemployment

Previous research has found that funding disparities are driven by applications’ final impact scores and that only a portion of the black/white funding gap can be explained by bibliometrics and topic choice. Using National Institutes of Health R01 applications for council years 2014–2016, we examine assigned reviewers’ preliminary overall impact and criterion scores to evaluate whether racial disparities in impact scores can be explained by application and applicant characteristics. We hypothesize that differences in commensuration—the process of combining criterion scores into overall impact scores—disadvantage black applicants. Using multilevel models and matching on key variables including career stage, gender, and area of science, we find little evidence for racial disparities emerging in the process of combining preliminary criterion scores into preliminary overall impact scores. Instead, preliminary criterion scores fully account for racial disparities—yet do not explain all of the variability—in preliminary overall impact scores.

Abstract According to the results of a recent observational epidemiologic study, the PURE study, an elevated consumption of saturated fats in the diet would not be detrimental for the cardiovascular risk, and would not increase all-causes-mortality. A part for the criticism the study received, for being conducted in eastern countries and mainly in rural settings, its results are substantially in agreement with the most recent epidemiological literature, which gradually redefined the pro-atherogenic role of the saturated fats. It is possible that this type of fats, in this instance, would have a limited and restricted effect, and rather represent the overall effect of the foodstuff in which they abound, in the prevalent dietetic habits of the population studied. The results of the PURE study can be integrated with little difficulties, with the recent revision of the role of the alimentary fats in determining cardiovascular risk and all-causes-mortality. The revision doesn’t support (assuming adequate calories and weight control) a limitation of the total dietary fats, saturated fats in particular. An excessive reduction of saturated fats, particularly in Europe, could lead to an unnecessary and unsolicited limitation of certain foods (most commonly cheese), whose final impact on overall health is favourable.

In this paper, we attempt to analyse and compare the magnitudes of destruction caused by natural disasters versus socio-economic-political disasters around the world. To do so, we deploy a multi-disciplinary approach that encompasses history, politics, sociology, and<br>economics (Ruiz Estrada, 2011 and 2017). In the methodological discussion, we propose using<br>quantitative and qualitative methods simultaneously to systematically evaluate different type of disasters. In this context, we propose a new analytical tool: “The General Disasters Final Impact Simulator” (GDFI-Simulator). Finally, we apply the GDFI-Simulator to Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania in the 19th and 20th centuries. <br>
