Abstract This study aimed to analyze the socio-environmental characteristics, executive and nutritional functions in children aged 6 to 7 years, from public schools in Alagoas, Brazil. A quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study was performed involving 64 children of the mentioned age group, from public schools located in Alagoas: Maceió, on the coast; Major Isidoro, in the hinterland and Palmeira dos Índios, in the country. Such analyzes were made through the application of neuropsychological tests and anthropometric assessment with children and food and socio-environmental surveys with their parents. As for the type of housing, 100% were made of masonry, with a bathroom present in 98.4%. All children reported with the habit of bathing in the river / lagoon, presented some pathology. There was no significant difference between cities in terms of the sociodemographic characteristics evaluated, with the same result occurring with the factors associated with the occurrence of diseases in children. The subtests of WISC-IV, were below the average in all municipalities, and the TAC and SCC were classified within the average. However, even though the ranking were divided between below average and average, it is possible to identify from the subtests of WISC-IV, that the general IQ showed a cognitive level below the average. There was also no significant difference in the anthropometric assessment (weight, height, BMI and IMCI) between the evaluated students. The average weight was 23.3 kg to 25 kg, the height between 1.23 m to 1.24 m, the BMI between 16.4 to 17; the IMCI from 2.8 to 3.0. Children were classified within the average. Regarding micronutrients (Ca, Fe, K, Mg and Na, and vitamins A, C, D, B1, B9 and B12) and calories, there was also no significant difference between the cities evaluated. The same occurred with macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and lipids). This study showed that in general there was no difference between the students of the three municipalities. Probably, even though they are all public schools and from different cities, children have similar social conditions.

Introduction: The established dose of chemotherapy is based on the values of the patient's body weight, where variations during treatment can increase the toxicity of chemotherapy, with the development of nephrotoxicity, among other toxicity profiles, as well as in cases of weight gain, patients may receive low doses and compromise the therapeutic response to the tumor. Objective: to evaluate weight gain and loss in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: Longitudinal analytical study with patients at the end of chemotherapy treatment of both genders. The type, location of the tumor and the antineoplastic agent used were collected from the medical records, as well as height and weight at the beginning of treatment. At the time of collection, anthropometric assessment was performed using body mass index, arm circumference, arm muscle circumference, triceps skinfold thickness and percentage of weight loss. Results: Among the patients included in the study, 47.5% had a weight gain of around 2.5 kg, while the remaining patients (52.5%) had a weight loss of around 2.8 kg. Of the patients who had GFR, 55.5% had severe PP, 33.4% had no significant loss and 11.1 had significant loss. In the current study, only 22% had a GFR <60ml/min/1.73m², but they would already need to readjust the medication calculation. Conclusion: It is important to evaluate body surface variations and also the GFR to adjust the dose of the antineoplastic agent and to prevent or minimize nephrotoxicity, as well as to reduce the risk of underdosing and inefficiency of the therapy.

Background of the Study: Stunting, wasting, and underweight are the important nutritional status indicators for children. “While stunting is caused by long-term insufficient nutrient intake and repeated infections, wasting is a result of acute food shortage and illness. Wasting, on the other hand, is a strong predictor of mortality and requires urgent response. Underweight combines information about linear growth obstruction and weight for length/height” [7]. Understanding differences in the determinants of childhood malnutrition between urban and rural areas is important to design appropriate, relevant program and policy implementation. Aims & Objectives: The aim of the study is to assess and compare the prevalence of underweight, stunting and wasting among pre-school children in rural and urban area. Methodology: Convenient random sampling technique was used to gather data in 100 samples, 50 each from rural and urban population. Data was collected by using structured interview and anthropometric assessment. The questionnaire consisted of two parts, i.e., demographic data and questions regarding anthropometric assessment, age, height, weight etc. The three nutritional status indicators, HAZ - z-score for height-for-age, (Stunting), WAZ - z-score for weight for age (Underweight), WHZ- z – score weight for height (Wasting) were calculated using WHO Anthro survey application. Results: This study revealed that Prevalence of acute malnutrition (stunting) among rural pre-school children is 28% which was higher than the prevalence of acute malnutrition in urban pre-school children which was only 18 %. Prevalence of Underweight among rural pre-school children is 36% which was higher than the prevalence of underweight in urban pre-school children which was only 34 %. Prevalence of chronic malnutrition (wasting) among rural pre-school children is 32% which was lower than the prevalence of chronic malnutrition in urban pre-school children in which it was 46%. There is no significant association between the nutritional status of the rural and urban pre-school children with the selected demographic variables. This indicates even though there was a significant difference between the rural and urban pre-school children, both group of children are at the risk of one or other malnutrition related problems. Conclusion: This study suggests that even though there was a significant difference between the rural and urban pre-school children, both group of children are at the risk of one or other malnutrition problem.

Anthropometrics can be a sensitive indicator of health, growth and development in infants and children. Measurement of height, weight and nutrient intake are the reliable means to evaluate the nutritional status and it is very much in need. Nutritional status of a sample of 120 adolescent respondents, from Samastipur, district of Bihar were evaluated by anthropometric measurement & nutrient intake. The correlation coefficient between protein and government school adolescent weight (r=0.280) was significantly positive but height and BMI was not significant. The correlation coefficient between protein and private school adolescent weight (r=0.542) and BMI (r=0.500) was positively correlated and highly significant while height was not significant. The correlation coefficient of iron with height, weight and BMI of government school adolescent was not significant. But in private school correlation coefficient of iron with weight (r=0.448) and BMI(r=0.421) was positive and highly significant. Therefore this study suggests that the Anthropometric assessment and nutritional intake of adolescent students in Bihar should further be done for coming to a conclusion.

Background: One hundred meter sprint was influenced by various internal and external factors. Somatotype and anthropometry profiles are possibly to be one of the factors that predicts performance. The aims of this study were to assess the anthropometry and somatotype profiles obtained from an example of Indonesian team university male sprinters and to elucidated potential correlations between anthropometry profile and somatotype with the 100m sprint. Methods: It was recorded that 20 selected sprint athletes participated as representatives from Indonesia in the XVIII ASEAN University Games with an averaged age (20.0 ± 0.92 year old). Anthropometric assessment includes height, weight, skinfold (triceps, supra-spinale, subscapula, suprailiaca, abdomen, calf, front thigh and chest)), two bicondylar widths (humerus and femur) and two circumferences (biceps and femur). The somatotype assessment was based on the Health & Carter method. Body fat percentage was assessed using the equation determined by Berzerk et al. (1963). Body Mass Index is calculated from body mass divided by height squared (kg/m2). Multicorrelation matrix and simple linear regression were used to assess the potential correlation between somatotype profile and anthropometry with the 100m sprint. Results: The average value of ectomorph-mesomorph-endomorph was 3.40-4.08-0.84 BMI at 20.6 0.6, while the fat percentage was 9.2 ± 0.8. There were no significant correlation and regression slope found between somatotype profile and anthropometry with the 100m sprint. Conclusion:  Most of the athletes representing Indonesia at the ASEAN University Games were mesomorphs and ectomorphs. They had low endomorph score fat percentage. Body shape requirements was not related to the 100m sprint. Further investigation is recommended to amplify the findings. Profil somatotipe dan antropometri diperkirakan merupakan salah satu diantara faktor yang dapat memprediksi kinerja. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menilai antropometri dan somatotipe yang diperoleh dari sampel pelari putra perguruan tinggi Indonesia dan menjelaskan potensi korelasi antara antropometri dan somatotype dengan lari 100 meter. Metode: Tercatat 20 atlet sprinter terpilih sebagai perwakilan dari Indonesia di ASEAN University Games XVIII dengan rata-rata umur (20.0±0.92 tahun). Penilaian antropometri meliputi tinggi, berat badan, lipatan kulit (trisep, supra-spinale, subskapula, suprailiaka, abdomen, betis, paha depan dan dada), dua lebar bicondylar (humerus dan femur) dan dua lingkar (bisep dan femur). Penliaian somatotipe didasarkan dari metode Heath & Carter. Presentasi lemak tubuh dinilai sebagai persamaan yang ditentukan oleh Berzerk et al. (1963). Indeks Masa Tubuh dihitung dari masa tubuh yang dibagi dengan tinggi badan kuadrat (kg / m2). Matrix multikorelasi dan regresi linear sederhana digunakan untuk menilai potensi korelasi antara profil somatotipe dan antropometri dengan lari cepat 100 m. Hasil: Rata-rata nilai ectomorph-mesomorph-endomorph adalah 3.40-4.08-0.84. BMI di angka 20.6 ± 0.6, sedangkan presentasi lemak di angka 9.2± 0.8. Tidak ada korelasi yang signifikan dan kemiringan regresi ditemukan antara somatotipe dan antropometri dengan lari 100 m. Kesimpulan: Atlet yang mewakili Indonesia di ASEAN University Games sebagian besar mesomorph and ectomorph. Mereka memiliki presentasi lemak skor endomorph rendah. Syarat-syarat bentuk tubuh tidak berkaitan dengan lari 100 m. Investigasi lebih lanjut direkomendasikan untuk memperkuat temuan. Kata kunci: antropometri, somatotipe, pelari

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the association between violence in childhood and increase in the Body Mass Index among adolescents. Method: a cross-sectional study, conducted with 136 adolescents aged from 10 to 19 years old, monitored by a Multiprofessional Residency Program in Adolescents' Health, in health units from the municipality of Divinópolis-MG. The anthropometric assessment was conducted from March to June 2018; and information was collected referring to the socioeconomic level, demographic factors, food consumption, and physical activity of the participants. The variable related to violence in childhood was composed of five groups, obtained from a factorial analysis. Multiple regression models were used to identify the variables associated with the increase in Body Mass Index, with a significance level of 5%. Results: the prevalence of excess weight was 31.8%. The adolescents participating in the study consumed soft drinks (66.2%) and industrialized food products (66.9%) every week and ate in front of the TV every day (54.4%). The most prevalent type of abuse was emotional neglect, which affected 100% of the sample under study. An association was evidenced of physical neglect in childhood and intake of industrialized food products with the increase in the Body Mass Index z-score. Conclusion: violence in childhood and the consumption of industrialized food products were associated to the increase in Body Mass Index among adolescents. Investments in public policies for comprehensive promotion of health and protection of children and adolescents are imperious.
