Creating conditions for the development of the food market and ensuring food security of the country in the context of globalization and unfair competition in the foreign market is a strategic task of public authorities and business. A ranking place in solving this problem is given to the development and implementation of effective laws and state programs to form an effective commodity distribution infrastructure and ensure the guaranteed sale of domestic food products on the domestic market at an equitable price. The necessary condition for solving this problem for selling perishable products is the creation of an effective system of wholesale food and retail markets. The main advantage of these marketing channels is that they create conditions for the development of fair competition between suppliers of food products in the territory of these markets and the formation of a fair price for food products. As foreign experience shows, the state support of these marketing channels is due to their role in the food supply of the population of cities and solving socio-economic problems of society. In order to create an effective system of wholesale food markets in the subjects of the Russian Federation, on September 27, 2021 by the Government of the Russian Federation approved the Concept of development of wholesale food markets and prepared the bills on amendments to the Law on regulation of commercial activities in terms of development of retail markets.

The present study was aimed to detect and quantify major organophosphorus pesticide residues in cauliflower and cucumber collected from different retail markets of Dhaka city, Bangladesh. In this study, a total of 50 vegetable samples (30 samples of cauliflower and 20 samples of cucumber) were analyzed using Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged and Safe (QuEChERS) extraction technique and Gas Chromatography coupled with Flame Thermionic Detector (GC-FTD). Among the 30 analyzed samples of cauliflower, 5 samples (16.7% of the total number of samples) contained residues of chlorpyrifos, quinalphos, acephate and dimethoate, where 4 samples contained multiple pesticide residues. All the contaminated samples of cauliflower contained residues above the EU-MRL. On the other hand, among the 20 analyzed samples of cucumber, only 2 samples (10% of the total number of samples) contained residues of quinalphos and chlorpyrifos at a level being below the EU-MRL. This study reflects the overall scenario of pesticide residues remain in cauliflower and cucumber purchased from different local markets of Dhaka city, which will help the consumer to be aware of their health and safety. The findings derived from this study reveals the public health concern due to the potential of pesticide toxicity in vegetables for the consumers. Therefore, continuous monitoring on the use of pesticides in vegetables should be strengthened. Asian Australas. J. Food Saf. Secur. 2021, 5 (2), 63-70

Brucellosis in the Middle East is endemic and is associated with health burdens and economic losses for animals and humans. Transmission of Brucella from animal hosts to humans is prevalent in endemic areas, especially developing countries. This study aimed at screening for the brucellae in different fresh red meat sold in retail markets in Erbil city, Iraq. A total of 410 samples were collected between July and December 2019 and analyzed by serological and bacteriological tests for Brucella spp. by Rose Bengal Test (RBT), ELISA, and traditional bacterial culture. The prevalence of Brucella was 9.3, 7.8 and 7.1 % by RBT, ELISA, and bacteriological analysis, respectively. Both B. abortus and B. melitensis were detected in 3.17 % and 3.90 % of collected samples, respectively. In terms of seasonal variation, autumn was found to be associated with a decrease in seroprevalence. RBT was found to be suitable for ruling out the disease, but its positive results should be confirmed. The overall prevalence of Brucella in meat or the source livestock is alarming and requires considerable actions to prevent the transmission of brucellae to humans. HIGHLIGHTS The prevalence of Brucella in meat samples sold in Erbil is ~ 7 - 10 % Rose Bengal Test is convenient ruling out the disease in animals but its positive results should be confirmed The seasonality of Brucella in livestock of Erbil showed slight decrease during the autumn season GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT

PurposeDespite the significant potential of Malaysia and Indonesia as emerging Southeast Asian retail markets, their nuanced differences in relation to global retailers have not been fully analyzed. Drawing the institutional theory, this study analyzed the institutional environments of Malaysian and Indonesian markets contrasting their similarities and differences in formal (i.e. explicit, regulatory) and informal (i.e. tacit normative and cultural-cognitive) institutions.Design/methodology/approachThe analysis of this exploratory is based on a large number of publicly available sources, including research papers, government documents and reports. The paper triangulated the validity of the data with multiple sources, including scholars, business professionals and government officers at the chamber of commerce in the countries.FindingsAlthough the two countries adjacently located in Southeast Asia share Islam as a major religion and the Bahasa language, there are significant differences in their formal institutions related to the retail environment, such as openness to foreign investment and retail infrastructure. Based on the analyses, this study provided recommendations for global retail companies targeting or planning to enter the Malaysian and Indonesian markets.Originality/valueThis paper was an original application of institutional theory to Malaysia and Indonesia and analyzed the two emerging economies where institutions vary and are less visible to many multinational companies.

Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the dietary exposure of phosphorus in the Serbian adult population by combining individual consumption data with available data for analysed meat products. During a three years period of investigation (2018 to 2020), a total of 682 samples consisting of 425 cooked sausages and 257 smoked meat products were collected from different local retail markets across the Serbia to examine phosphorus concentrations. The mean phosphorus concentration, expressed as P2O5, varied from 4.68±0.88 g/kg to 6.05±1.30 g/kg in finely minced cooked sausages and smoked meat products, respectively. The average estimated daily dietary intake (exposure) (EDI) of phosphorus ranged from 1.115 mg/kg BW (body weight)/day (finely minced cooked sausages) to 1.441 mg/kg BW/day (smoked meat products). Phosphorus dietary intake (exposure) averaged 3.08% of the acceptable daily intake (ADI: 40 mg/kg BW/day). According to our results, the average phosphorus exposure in the Serbian adult population from consumption of these meat products is far below the European ADI.
