Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) can be characterized from their occupational etiology and their occurrence; their chronicity generates negative repercussions for the health of workers, especially of artisanal fishing. To investigate the prevalence of generalized musculoskeletal disorders by body region and self-reported pain in a fishing population of northeastern Brazil, an epidemiological cross-sectional study was carried out in Santiago do Iguape, Bahia-Brazil, in 2017. The Brazilian version of the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ), in addition to a questionnaire containing the socio-demographic and labor conditions were applied to a random stratified sample of 248 artisanal fisheries. There were 170 female shellfish gatherers and 78 fishermen, with a mean age of 36.7 years (SD = 10.5 years) and 43.3 years (SD = 11.8 years), respectively. The beginning of the labor activity was initiated at approximately 11 years of age. The average weekly income varied from 17.64 USD to 29.10 USD. The prevalence of MSD independent of occupation occurred in at least one body region in 93.5% and the presence of musculoskeletal pain/discomfort over the last seven days in 95.2% of the fishing workers. The highest prevalence of MSD was found in shellfish gatherers in: lower back (86.4%), wrist and hand (73.5%), and upper back (66.8%). In relation to the presence of pain in the last year, the frequency of pain was greater in the fishermen compared to the shellfish gatherers. The generalized severity of the MSD in 93.5% of this community of fishermen is evident, with emphasis in the following regions: lower back, wrist and hand and upper back in both groups, with occurrence of pain in more than one body region at the same time.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze factors associated with presenteeism in nursing workers with sociodemographic variables, health and work conditions, productivity and musculoskeletal symptoms. Methods: this is a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study, with 306 nursing workers from a hospital and municipal emergency room in a Brazilian capital. The Stanford Presenteeism Scale, the Work Limitations Questionnaire, the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and a demographic questionnaire on nursing professionals’ working conditions and health were used. Bivariate and multivariate analyzes were performed, respecting a significance level of 5%. Results: presenteeism was found in 43.8% of professionals and significant associations with CLT work (p=0.002), workplace - Intensive Care Units (p=0.008), physical exercise twice a week (p=0.008), presence of musculoskeletal symptoms, with low back pain being representative (p=0.001). The productivity loss was 8.8. Conclusions: the study confirms a high rate of presenteeism among nursing workers.

BACKGROUND: The presence of low back pain in nurses is becoming increasingly prominent and it has significant impact both on the individual as well as on the community. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of low back pain among practicing nurses. METHODS: The research has been conducted in five health care institutions in the area of Vojvodina. Data were collected using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). RESULTS: Five hundred and twelve nurses participated in this study. Most of the participants (93.95%) indicated that they experienced discomfort or pain in the lower back in the last 12 months. Due to low back pain, 61.95% of participants had reduced working abilities and 76.09% of participants have never taken time off from work. CONCLUSIONS: Due to low back pain nurses have a reduced working capacity, but they nevertheless rarely seek medical help or the change of the work place. The implementation of better ergonomic approach and adequate organization of work could reduce the occurrence of low back pain.

The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence of musculoskeletal problems in bio-pharmaceutical industry workers. A cross sectional survey was conducted on 33 bio-pharmaceutical industry workers by administering the Extended Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire to quantify the musculoskeletal pain and activity limitation in 9 body regions. The Rapid Office Strain Assessment was used to assess the work-related postures and ergonomics of the computer operators in this industry. A Self-Designed Questionnaire was administered to obtain data regarding the various musculoskeletal problems faced by Bio-pharmaceutical industrial workers, work-related risk factors and various postures attained throughout the day. Out of the 33 workers investigated, 21 workers (63%) of the workers experienced musculoskeletal pain. Isolated spine pain was the commonest, and was reported in 8 out of 21 individuals (38%). Spine with upper and lower limb pain was the next most common, and was reported in 5 out of 21 individuals (24%). 4 out of 21 individuals had spine and lower limb pain (19%). The Rapid Office Strain Assessment scores of all the workers was above 5 indicating “high risk” which implied that immediate ergonomic change was necessary. This study concluded that there was 63% prevalence of musculoskeletal pain. The most common site of pain were the spine, followed by pain in the spine with both upper and lower extremities. All the workers were exposed to different ergonomic risk factors. The study concluded that implementation of ergonomic interventions may minimize the risks of work related musculoskeletal pain. Background: The objectives were to evaluate the frequency of musculoskeletal symptoms related to screen time and to determine the mostly affected body parts with musculoskeletal symptoms Methods: A Cross-sectional survey was conducted on 150 students from February to May 2018 selected via convenience sampling technique. Data was collected from students of twin cities having screen time more than 3 hour’s using validated questionnaires including The Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) to assess musculoskeletal symptoms and self-structured questionnaire for screen time and demographics. Data was analyzed using SPSS v.21. Results: Mean age of the population was 15±2.7 years. Mean screen time score was computed as 6.45 hours with 10 hours highest screen time observed of 6 participants. Mean musculoskeletal involvement was computed as 85.3 % (n=128) in last 12 months of which 28.9% (n=66) had neck pain, 21.9% (n=50) had lower back pain whereas 14.9%, 11.4% had shoulder and upper back involvement. In last 7 days 25.7%, participants had pain in neck area and 18.3% in lower back. 83.5% participants didn’t visited physicians for their respective condition. significant relation of screen time was observed with the musculoskeletal symptoms. Conclusion: Screen time severely influence musculoskeletal symptoms especially neck and lower back muscle, presence of high number of musculoskeletal symptoms among adolescent is alarming and shows the need of adequate measures to address these problems

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain disorders and related factors among female school teachers of Peshawar. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted from February 2019 to July 2019 among primary and secondary female school teachers (n=289) in Peshawar. Data was collected from using semi-structured questionnaire. Outcome measures were based on modified version of Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire (NMQ) and Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). Descriptive statistics was used to summarize qualitative variables in the form of frequencies and percentages. Mean and standard deviation was calculated for quantitative variables. Chi-square test was used to find association. The significant P value was <0.05. Results: Prevalence of musculoskeletal pain disorders was 82.7%. The overall mean age of sample was 37.5±8.47. Most common sites of pain were low back 60.2% followed by neck pain 50.2%, ankle pain 48.4% and shoulder pain 44.3%. Factors that showed significant relationship were long time standing (p=0.001), long time sitting (p=0.039), checking copy/paper marking (p value 0.023) and uncomfortable work chair/table (p = 0.012). Conclusion: Female school teachers showed high prevalence of musculoskeletal pain disorders, low back was the most common site for pain followed by ankle and shoulder. Risk factors associated with pain were long time standing, long time sitting, checking copy/paper marking and uncomfortable work chair/table. Background: The Nagpur Metro rail project workers are involved in heavy activities like pulling, pushing, lifting heavy loads and other heavy tasks. This makes them susceptible to Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)/symptoms. Aim and objectives: To find out the presence of work related musculoskeletal symptoms in Metro workers in Nagpur city using Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire. Methods: 120 workers falling, in the age range of 20 to 45 years and involved in labor work were included using the convenient sampling method. Samples were excluded if they have recent fractures or surgery, any neurological conditions or who were not willing to participate. Nordic Musculoskeletal questionnaire was explained to each and every worker in their vernacular language. Results and Conclusion: The result showed that there is multiple region involvement among the subjects. The most affected region was found to be upper back followed by low back, knee, shoulder, neck. A wide range of inflammatory and degenerative conditions affecting muscles, tendons, joints, peripheral nerves, are categorized as “musculoskeletal disorders” (MSDs). Exposure to vibration and noises, the varying climatic conditions and the standing posture needs to be considered as a stress factor contributing to his/her health status. As conductors do constant work for 5 to 6 hours with 1-2 breaks in between while working they are constantly exposed to vibrational forces. : To assess the musculoskeletal problems in bus conductors of Nagpur city.: To assess the musculoskeletal problems in bus conductors in last one year (based on site of musculoskeletal problem using Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire). : It was an observational study conducted on 100 bus conductors between age group of 20-50 years working with Nagpur Mahanagar Parivahan Limited (NMPL-AAPLI BUS). Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire was used to assess musculoskeletal pain at various regions of body. : The most commonly affected area was knee joint (37%) followed by lower back (17%) and ankles/feet (11%).

Nghiên cứu mô tả cắt ngang nhằm xác định tỷ lệ và mô tả các yếu tố liên quan đến mắc rối loạn cơ xương khớp (RLCXK) ở điều dưỡng, nữ hộ sinh và hộ lý đang công tác tại bệnh viện trường Đại học Y Dược Huế năm 2019. Tiến hành khảo sát trên 240 điều dưỡng, nữ hộ sinh và hộ lý sử dụng bộ câu hỏi phát hiện RLCXK (The Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire). Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy tỷ lệ có biểu hiện RLCXK trong 12 tháng qua và 7 ngày qua lần lượt là 78,3 % và 56,7%. Trong đó tỷ lệ có vị trí đau hay gặp nhất lần lượt là phần lưng dưới (61,3%), vùng cổ (60,0%), và vai (55,4%). Các yếu tố liên quan đến RLCXK bao gồm có tiền sử RLCXK, khoa, phòng làm việc, số ngày làm việc/tuần, mang/nâng/di chuyển vật liệu hay thiết bị nặng và làm việc ở tư thế khó chịu cúi/cong/vặn lưng.

Background: People nowadays have developed a new passion of weightlifting. Weightlifting focuses on vigorous muscle development. But injuries are also common in weightlifting. This study aims to compare the injury rates among supervised and non-supervised weightlifters. Methods: A group of 138 weight lifters was divided into two groups i.e. who did training under supervision and the other who did training without any supervision. Injuries related to musculoskeletal system were identified using Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire. Data was analyzed using SPSS. Chi square test was used to see the association of musculoskeletal pain among weightlifters with or without supervision. Results: Significant association found between musculoskeletal injuries and supervision. Injuries lesser in number among supervised weightlifters as compared to unsupervised weightlifters. Mean age of weight lifters under supervision and without supervision was 21.99 (SD 3.81) and 24.64 (SD 5.01) respectively. Mean workout days /week among weight lifters under supervision was almost same i.e. 5.67 (SD .63) and was 5.62 (SD .81). Out of 51 participants who work-out for 46-60 min, 30 were not under supervision while 31 weightlifters who work-out for 61-90 min were working out under supervision. Injury rate was more in the region of shoulder in both groups supervised and unsupervised groups while hip/thigh region was less involved in both supervised and unsupervised groups. Conclusion: Overall results showed significant association between musculoskeletal injuries and supervision. Injury rate was more among weightlifters who work without supervision as compared to those who work under supervision. Care should be taken and weight lifting and exercises must be performed under expert’s supervision.
