Abstract The history of frontiers is a fascinating topic for research, especially interdisciplinary research. We stress the need to engage with existing work on the topic by economists and economic historians, but we also highlight the need to engage with such topics as the history of inter-state conflict and violence, technological change, and the role of multiple interest groups in determining policy.

Significance In one of the most significant changes in direction in a major emerging market (EM) in recent years, newly appointed TCMB Governor Naci Agbal has tightened monetary policy dramatically while abandoning a convoluted system of multiple interest rates. With another technocrat, Lufti Elvan, appointed finance minister, monetary policy could be returning to normality. Impacts A Biden administration is expected to prove unaccommodating towards Turkey, especially given its purchase of a Russian air defence system. This may be leading Erdogan to extend feelers to the EU, recently promising reforms and insisting Turkey is an “inseparable” part of Europe. Anti-coronavirus vaccines’ late-stage trial results are encouraging market optimism, with the US stock market hitting a record this month.

Intermodal transport is widely believed to be an efficient way of organizing transportation activities because of its significant role in reducing logistics costs and emissions of air pollutants, which copes with the ever-increasing economic and environmental concerns. This paper applies the multiple streams framework (MSF) to analyze three streams (e.g., the problem stream, policy stream, and politics stream) in setting policy agenda for sustainable intermodal transport in China. By restricting the attention to the opening of the policy window and the coupling of the three streams, the motivation, process, and trend of formulating intermodal transport policy are systematically discussed. The findings show that the key to setting the policy agenda for sustainable intermodal transport in China is to strengthen collaboration among multiple interest groups, boost the national mood, and diversify the identity of policy entrepreneurs. This paper not only verifies the applicability of the MSF, but also helps us to better understand how sustainable intermodal transport policy is formulated in China, thus promoting future policy making.

Advance care planning (ACP) in New Zealand has grown as a people’s movement resourced by passionate individuals across the country. This people’s movement is a whole of systems approach led by the national ACP Cooperative. The approach has provided a permissive platform for the national evolution of ACP and has allowed ACP to quickly gain momentum. It has facilitated the collaboration of multiple interest groups with consumers at the centre and has provided an environment for innovation. The ACP Cooperative used a deployment model to drive the work. The model insured that the movement focused on engaging healthcare leadership and the community, educating clinicians, and the public, whilst keeping the patient and their family/whānau values at the centre of the process. The Cooperative is acutely aware that providing patient value-based care for people as they approach the end of their lives sets the precedent for how all healthcare could be delivered.
