Purpose The traditional construction delivery method is challenged by low trust and collaboration issues, resulting in increased project costs. The integrated project delivery (IPD) method is developed, through a contractual agreement, to overcome these challenges by creating a common set of terms, expectations and project goals. Design/methodology/approach A singular construction case was followed during a four-month period. Data collection consisted of contract documents and a series of semi-structured interviews with representatives from the owner, design-group and contractors. Findings The IPD contract was found to have a number of positive effects; it improved project behavior (e.g. trust, collaboration and communication), increased ownership among project participants and improved buildability of the design, leading to fewer surprises and interruptions in the construction phase. The study also revealed a number of challenges including contractual and legal challenges and involving too many participants in the early phases. Moreover, co-location was identified as a particular important supporting element, to build relations and improve collaboration. Originality/value This research identified lessons learned from the application, as well as initial barriers and persistent barriers for implementing IPD. To improve IPD application the top three lessons were as follows: 1) the contractual documents should be adapted and signed at an early stage as this increases financial transparency, 2) cost estimates should be carried as an iterative process and project main concept be freezed at an early stage to increase understanding and minimize risks, 3) only the most important project developers should be involved in the early phases, to avoid going into detailed design issues before the main concept is completed.

Subculture is a movement against the mainstream that is manifested through music, fashion and lifestyle. One of the supporting element of the manifestation of a subculture is the existence of products from certain brands that have authenticity. The authenticity of a brand can be formed through the interaction of a brand with its community. A brand is not constructed by itself, but it must be built with various actions towards a community with its own ecosystem so as to give rise to consumer attitudes and habits towards a brand's product. Previous studies have shown that general consumers with subcultural actors show different attitudes towards a product from a certain brand. Another study shows that brands imitate the behavior patterns of a subculture and make it their target market to sell products. This study aims to take another approach, namely a sociological approach, by conducting a case study of a brand that is associative with a subcultural movement, one of which is Maternal Disaster. The method used in this study was an unstructured interview with the owner of the Maternal Disaster brand, visual samples analysis and an analysis based on the sociological theory of Pierre Bourdieu. The result of this research is a recommendation, brands that want to start moving in the subculture must prioritize the values that are upheld by the subculture movement. In addition, interaction with the community must be built through the support of activities in the subculture.

The foot is an important supporting element of the body. The deformity that may arise in the area of the toes is hallux valgus. It consists in the lateral deviation of the toe and the medial displacement of the first metatarsal bone. It is a medical problem and affects the aesthetics and symmetry of the feet. The aim of the study was to present how selected sports disciplines affect the morphological structure of the feet, with emphasis on the formation of hallux valgus. Regular physical activity strengthens the muscles and ligaments of the foot. Most sports do not lead to the formation of hallux valgus, also they can slow down the process of its formation. More frequent occurrence of hallux valgus among female dancers may be due to the wearing of high heels. Foot defects may also appear in people who, as a result of practicing sports, suffer injuries in the distal parts of the lower limb and in those with an increased Body Mass Index.

Abstract Background Ever since the first successful keratoplasty in 1905, there has been a need to store corneas for transplantation. R. Townley Paton founded the first eye bank in New York in 1944. With Helen Kellerʼs call in 1925 for LIONS to “constitute themselves Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness”, LIONS Clubs International has become involved in the establishment of eye banks worldwide. This paper presents the development of eye banking in general and with special attention to the support offered by LIONS Clubs. Methods Selective literature search through PubMed, Google Scholar and Google in close cooperation with the LIONS Eye Banks already established in Germany, LIONS Clubs International (USA) and the Julius Hirschberg Society (Austria). Analysis focused on the founding processes of 6 German eye banks and their current services. Results Filatov was the first to keep donor eyes in a cool, moist container for a few days. In 1973, Summerlin et al described the technique of organ culture for donor corneas, and McCarey & Kaufman described a liquid storage medium in 1974. LIONS Clubs International and their organisational structure first supported an eye bank in the US in 1952, outside America in Hong Kong in 1962 and in Germany in 1969. Funding is provided across all levels of LIONS as network support and material resources. In general, staff funding is not provided. Of the 88 eye banks operating worldwide today, 44 are called LIONS Eye Banks. 6 of the current 26 eye banks in Germany are operating under LIONS sponsorship and run by departments of ophthalmology at university medical centres. Although the number of transplants has increased in recent years due to new surgical techniques, the number of patients waiting for donor tissue is also growing as a result of the broadening indication. Conclusions Even today, the availability of donor corneas limits patient care. Eye banks help to meet the need for donor corneas. However, the techniques and technical equipment of eye banks must undergo continuous improvement. The local, national and international network of LIONS Clubs can assist in establishing these in order to facilitate legal requirements and structural developments. This support frequently lasts for many years, often triggers additional public commitment and is thus also a supporting element for the future development of eye banking in Germany.

The concepts of «personal maturity» and «professional maturity» are often used in the literature, which are not identical since they describe different psychological realities. Personal maturity is defined by the authors as a key new formation of age, which radically changes the previous social situation of development, as a psychological new formation. That is, professional maturity may be a relatively autonomous entity that does not necessarily correlate with personal growth. Personal maturity is characterized by a process of internal personal transformation, the source of which is the individual's need for self-actualization and sense of identity. Autonomy is determined as the most important feature. Personal maturity within the functional approach framework is considered as a self-regulatory system, where the main function is the transformation (regulation) of the ontogenetic development process into a purposeful, systemic, personality-given process that acquires individual features in the means, conditions and purposes of this development. It is known that the effectiveness of socio-pedagogical activities largely depends on the level of training, theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the teacher, one’s skills and abilities to establish contact with the student. In our opinion, the best indicator of the quality of socio-pedagogical training, primarily, is the effective implementation of future professional activities. We believe that the criterion for ensuring the effective performance of professional duties is a high level of future teacher’s socio-professional maturity development. Social maturity consists of individual components like any complex, integral phenomenon. Certain states of personality that accompany one’s activities in various spheres of public life act as such components. There are many approaches in the scientific literature to building the structure of social maturity and to identifying the components that are of most importance and play the role of «supporting element» of the «core» of social maturity.

AbstractLiteracy is no longer single entity; there are several aspects of literacies, especially in the era of information technology and digital media today, so it is called multiliteracies. This article presents the results of research on multiliteracies practice products in the form of Islamic boarding school (pesantren) website. Applying the theoretical framework of the new literacy study approach, this research focuses on the context, patron, or sponsorship of multiliteracy practices, and santri responses through it. Data were collected through textual analysis, interviews, and observations at the Nuris Pesantren in Jember. The results showed that patrons of the pesantren multiliteracies practice that produced website were the kiai and the sons of the kiai. Literacy patrons or sponsors always color the content and cultivation of any web or multiliteracies product. Kiai pesantren holds positions as patron and sponsor of pesantren-based multiliteracy practices in the age of digital media technology. The kiai’s vision and thought have an influence on the practice and products of pesantren multiliteracies. The kiai serves as a model (patron) of literacy as well as a sponsor (supporting element) of multiliteracy practices. The kiai remains a “filter” of values for the santri and the community in the digital era.
