The relationship between school integration and special educational needs (hereinafter: SEN) is analyzed in the framework of an international resarch in this study. In the theoretical part the process of segregation, integration and inclusion is introduced, and also the use of the concepts is dicussed. The integration in the school system means the approach and practice against segregated education of students with disabilities with the aim to eliminate segregated education. SEN is not a diagnostic but an educational concept, and the its special pedagogy and legal term do not coincide. The research was extended to Ukrainian (the Transcarparthian n=280), Polish (n=271) and Hungarian students (n=552). The results show that school inclusion and social support are increased by school success. Success can increase the self-esteem of students with learning problems, which co-occures with the subjective perception of increasing social support and decreasing exclusion.

Abstract. Centering attention on people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) has relevance to the educational field. The present study gathers the views of university students studying a Bachelor’s Degree relating to Physical Activity and Sports Sciences at public universities in Spain and United Kingdom (UK). Focus is placed on the training received relating to students with SEND. The data came from a questionnaire completed by 457 students from both countries who were in their last year of Bachelor’s Degree. The results show that the quality of training in SEND is the factor that most influences self-perceptions about scientific and professional capacity to address disability and SEN. Furthermore, personal experience in SEND matters also show an important influence and, to a lesser extent, although also significantly, the predominance of practical training over theoretical knowledge. The percentage of students who declare that their Bachelor’s Degree gives high importance to training in SEND is higher in the sample of UK students. In addition, significant differences have been found over the three components detected, demonstrating that Spanish students, unlike UK students, perceive that their level of professional training is higher, despite there being a greater need for training, and that the preparation of teachers for integration is also greater. Results suggest the necessity to continue focusing efforts on improving training in the field of SEND, providing it with higher levels of inclusiveness, both in its theoretical and practical content. This is something that should also be applied to continuous training offered by official educational institutions addressed to non-university teachers.

A qualitative methodology is followed, and the structured interview is applied as a data collection technique to six students with different disabilities according to the National Disability Council of Ecuador. Among the most relevant conclusions, there is a still an incipient inclusive educational culture, mainly concerned with the physical structure rather than the integration of the different actors of the educational community. In particular, there is a need to strengthen the functions of the Student Counselling Departments, as well as teacher training and support in reinforcing the relationship of trust with students, identification of their particular needs, and an appreciation of the learning value of this group as an intercultural relationship oriented towards educational inclusion and abandonment of welfarism.

Universal design for instruction (UDI) is a teaching strategy that has proved its value in the process of educational inclusion, resulting in a fundamental tool for the achievement of objective 4 of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. The lack of time of university professors and the scarce training offered in this subject make it difficult to know and implement UDI in university classrooms, increasing the risk of exclusion of students with some kind of disability. This study analyses the level of knowledge and implementation of the principles and strategies of UDI by university professors. Those professors did not have prior training, but they had access to the Curricular Adaptations of University Students with Special Educational Needs (CAUSSEN) tool as guide to implement different guidelines. The CAUSSEN tool is a document, developed by the Unit of Attention to People with Disability, in which there is information about UDI guidelines and accommodations referring to students with special educational needs. Results show a wide implementation of the UDI principles, despite the low level of previous knowledge its principles. This study concludes that there are practical alternatives to the lack of training, and that teachers’ self-perception of their own effectiveness and ability to cope with the inclusion of all students should be strengthened.

In the field of education we observe many positive changes in equalising educational opportunities for children and young people with disabilities. The most important changes have led to the inclusive paradigm which posits education of disabled children together with children with special educational needs. The article deals with issues related to educational inclusion, variously understood by parents of disabled children. Parents experiencing the disability of their children tend to normalize their lives, including education in a mainstream kindergarten. When talking about their children’s education, they unveiled personal meanings given to this event, showed their individual truths and the reality they experience. The stories they told were given a subjective meaning, which from their perspective is important and shapes their being.

In the inclusive model of the implementation of the OOP of students with disabilities and disabilities, different departmental structures participate, which should effectively interact with each other. Therefore, taking into account the levels of interaction between organizational structures and various activities when identifying and implementing OOP provides a holistic view of the functioning system, and, if necessary, allows for a more targeted impact on the problem links of the model.Materials and Methods. The paper uses the method of content analysis and systematization of scientific and methodological literature, normative legal acts that determine the direction of the organization of the educational environment in the implementation of the OOP of persons with disabilities and disabilities.Results. In the formed interdepartmental model of inclusive education, two levels are considered: the structural level, which is described from the point of view of interaction between state executive authorities and their subordinate organizations, and the functional level, in which the process of forming and implementing the OOP at various stages of the rehabilitation, educational and professional route of students with disabilities and disabilities takes place.Discussion and Conclusions. When considering the procedure for the formation and implementation of the OOP at the functional level of the interdepartmental model, the importance of implementing such processes as career guidance, psychological correction, interaction with non-profit and volunteer organizations, the formation of a professional career, and interaction with the employer is emphasized. The need for unity and interaction of all elements of the model under consideration is emphasized, which will ensure the full implementation of the PLO of persons with disabilities and disabilities and achieve the final result – professional and social integration.

ABSTRACT Objective To assess the diagnostic status, the sociodemographic and health profiles for students with special educational needs (SEN) in a public educational system, and to map their use of educational/social services. Methods The sample comprised 1,202 SEN students from a total of 59,344 students. Results Only 792 students of the 1,202 had an established diagnosis. The most prevalent SEN condition was intellectual disability. There was a low percentage (29.4%) of use of specialized educational services or support. It was found that, for some neurodevelopmental disorders, prevalence data suggest an under-reporting in the school system. Conclusion Results suggest that there is a mismatch between the diagnostic reports and the SEN condition legally recognized according to Brazilian law, in addition to the under-reporting and under specialized service use of students with disabilities.

Inclusive education has begun to be addressed within the context of the broader international debate on “Education for All” (EFA), a debate launched at the World Conference held in 1990 in Jomtien, Thailand. From Jomtien until today , thinking has evolved from the almost symbolic presence of special educational needs in the initial documentation, towards the recognition that inclusion must be a fundamental principle of the EFA movement as a whole. Within this process, the contribution of the Salamanca Declaration on Special Educational Needs: Access and quality (Unesco, 1994) stands out, from which the concept of educational inclusion emerges strongly. Thereafter thescope and perspectives of inclusive education has been based on the idea that all children and young people have the right to a quality education with equivalent learning opportunities, regardless of their social and cultural background and their differences in skills and abilities (OIE -UNESCO, 20 08) .
