The aim of this study is to examine the effect of the use of mathematics course on the prospective teachers’ attitudes towards mathematics and their beliefs on the nature, teaching and learning of mathematics and also to explore their opinions about the subject course. The results of the study were also interpreted according to the academic achievement variable. The study was prepared according to the mixed embedded experimental design and the study group is formed with 40 prospective teachers who take the use of mathematics compulsory elective course in a state university in Turkey. The Mathematical Attitude Scale, the Beliefs Scale about Mathematics Teaching and Learning and Student Opinion Form were used in the study. It was found that the prospective teachers who took the subject course differed significantly and positively in their attitudes towards mathematics, enjoyed mathematics more after the course and had more confidence in themselves by defeating their fears. The use of mathematics course made prospective teachers to deviate from traditional beliefs and have more constructive beliefs about mathematics. Besides, the effect of the course on the attitudes and beliefs of the prospective teachers with different academic achievement levels did not differentiate.

This research aims to find out the process as well as the result of improving students’ ability in reading French texts through the approach of Linguistic Functional Systemic at Teaching French Study Program at Faculty of Arts and Language, State University of Medan. This study uses a Linguistic Functional Systemic approach with the assumption that the LFS approach examines the text used as a learning material in the course of Text Review / Etude de Texte . This approach proved able to answer various linguistic issues, either micro or macro. The research methodology used is action research developed by Kemmis & Mc Taggart with four steps: (1) planning, (2) action implementation, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. This study lasted for three cycles. In the first cycle, results were obtained as 21 students or 43.75% of 48 students earned grades above the prescribed minimum standards. Furthermore, in the second cycle the number of students who score above the minimum standard increases to 73%, and at the end of the third cycle to 85,42% students. The results of this study show that the LFS approach is very effective in helping students improve the reading ability of French texts. This research recommends to the lecturers of French courses in general understanding and using the LFS approach in the teaching and learning process of reading class in the classroom as in the subject of Text Review / Etude de Texte and Compréhension Ecrite.

As information and communication technology has permeated all aspects of life education cannot be considered an exception either. The schools of the 21st century require the use of the latest digital devices whose effectiveness is greatly determined by the motivation, ICT-related attitude, and the respective competences of teachers managing and directing the given teaching and learning process. Since P.E. also requires the use of information and communication devices it would be crucial that prospective teachers develop a positive attitude toward such equipment. The present research aims at exploring the attitudes of students applying to P.E. teacher programs at the Eszterházy Károly University toward such instruments and approaches. Additional research objectives include the exploration of potential correlation between the sex of the applicants and the respective attitudes. Our inquiry utilized the questionnaire method and the computer-based attitude scale was completed by a sample of 130 applicants in the 2016/2017 and the 2017/2018 academic years.  Our research concluded that both men and women maintain a positive attitude toward the use of digital devices, or the tools of information and communication technology. Students representing both sexes consider the computer as a valuable learning device promoting the efficiency of the knowledge acquisition process. Furthermore, a significantly greater proportion of male respondents stated that they were capable of repairing computer problems emerging during use than that of their female counterparts. At the same time men are less apprehensive to use computers during instruction and this attitude appears to be an indispensable requirement for the application of ICT devices in class. The research can contribute to a deeper exploration of the given field along with performing a gap filling function as such examination has not yet been conducted among applicants to P.E. programs provided by higher education institutions in Hungary. This research was intended to know the extent of contextual approaches (Contextual Teaching and Learning) able to overcome practical problems in compliance with the students’ ability to construct a concept/meaning from what they learned. The scope of this inquiry included the implementation of contextual approaches to the subject of Introduction to Economic Science in Economic Cooperative Education Study Program of Business Education Department of Faculty of Social Science of Yogyakarta State University. This was a participatory action research. The action research was implemented in the academic years of 2003/2004 for the subject of Introduction to Economic Science. This research was conducted in several steps as follows: Planning, Action Implementation, Control and Evaluation, and Analysis and Reflection. The results show that: (1) in the first cycles, the ways of answering questions, answers the students present are not qualified, the frequency of expressing opinions tends to be minimum, and the interaction among students are low. Due to lack of time in accordance with the grouping and student classification spending too much time, 2 CTL methods can be used to improve: the students’ participation in discussing the results of the discussion conducted, the students’ way in revealing describing oral description review, the students’ capability in constructing concept/meaning. In applying CTL, it is found some weaknesses as follows: the frequent use of CTL method makes the students saturated, the use of CTL method requires more cost, it is good for creating media or doing observation, for the students with high level of learning motivation it is exciting for they regard that they have chance to deliver more opinions, and those with low level of learning motivation it makes them passive and talking to themselves (not interested).

Social studies is an important course to include current issues and associate them with life. Within the course, the concept of gender and supporting the entrepreneurship of individuals are noteworthy. Since it is an interdisciplinary course, the recognition of gender roles, and understanding correctly and developing the concept of entrepreneurship are emphasized in the course content. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the prospective social studies teachers’ attitudes towards gender roles considered to play an important role in the emergence of entrepreneurial skills and their entrepreneurship levels. For this purpose, the study was carried out using a relational screening model. The study group consisted of 222 prospective teachers studying in social studies teacher education program at a university located in the Central Black Sea Region of Turkey during the 2016-2017 academic year. In the study, Gender Roles Attitude Scale developed by Zeyneloğlu (2008) and University Students Entrepreneurship Scale developed by Yılmaz and Sünbül (2009) were used as data collection tools. As a result of the study, it was found that there is a significant relationship between the participants’ egalitarian gender role attitudes and entrepreneurship levels.

Physics is perceived as a difficult subject for secondary and tertiary students. A measurement of students’ attitude towards Physics must be obtained in finding ways of enhancing the teaching and learning in the colleges. Thus, this study is conducted to determine the attitude of engineering students towards physics and its relation to their academic achievement. Descriptive research design was employed in the study. Mean, standard deviation and Pearson product- moment coefficient of correlation were utilized in analyzing the data gathered. Results revealed that the students have a negative attitude towards physics subject, and their academic achievement of the subject is found to be fair or low. Further, a significant relationship was established between the students’ attitude toward Physics and their academic achievement. It is concluded that their low level of academic achievement in physics is the result of their negative attitude towards the subject. Hence, students’ negative attitude to physics influences low academic achievement.   Keywords Science Education, Physics, attitude, academic achievement, descriptive  design, Surigao City, Philippines
