Aim: To analyze the effective methods of antibiotic ointment to control bacterial growth, and to provide references for the research work of related personnel. Method: In this experiment, membrane filtration method combined with centrifugal precipitation method was used to complete the inspection of antibiotic ointment, and the final result was analyzed. Results: The application of membrane filtration method combined with centrifugal precipitation method to complete the test of antibiotic ointment has a significant effect. The test solution is milky white. The possibility if it can exert the effect of eliminating antibacterial components, so that Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus can show an affecting state in the positive test tube, and colonies can be found after observation. Conclusion: The application of membrane filtration method combined with centrifugal precipitation method to complete the inspection of antibiotic ointment can achieve satisfactory results. The method is simple to operate and has high feasibility. It is worthy of further promotion and application.

Hibiscus sabdariffa L. calyces are widely used in the preparation of beverages. The calyces contain compounds that exhibit antimicrobial activity, yet little research has been conducted on their possible use in food systems as antimicrobials. Aqueous extracts prepared from the brand “Mi Costenita” were sterilized by membrane filtration (0.22-μm pore size) or autoclaving (121°C, 30 min) and tested for antimicrobial activity against the foodborne pathogens Escherichia coli O157:H7 strains ATCC 43894 and Cider and Staphylococcus aureus strains SA113 and ATCC 27708 in a microbiological medium and ultrahigh-temperature-processed milk with various fat percentages. Extracts heated by autoclaving exhibited greater activity than did filtered extracts in a microbiological medium. Against E. coli, results of 20 mg/ml filtered extract were not different from those of the control, whereas autoclaved extracts reduced viable cells ca. 3 to 4 log CFU/ml. At 60 mg/ml, both extracts inactivated cells after 24 h. There were reduced populations of both strains of S. aureus (ca. 2.7 and 3 log CFU/ml, respectively) after 24 h of incubation in 40 mg/ml filtered extracts. When grown in autoclaved extracts at 40 mg/ml, both strains of S. aureus were inactivated after 9 h. Autoclaved extracts had decreased anthocyanin content (2.63 mg/liter) compared with filtered extracts (14.27 mg/liter), whereas the phenolic content (48.7 and 53.8 mg/g) remained similar for both treatments. Autoclaved extracts were then tested for activity in milk at various fat concentrations (skim [<0.5%], 1%, 2%, and whole [>3.25%]) against a 1:1 mixture of the two strains of E. coli O157:H7 and a 1:1 mixture of the two strains of S. aureus. Extracts at 40 mg/ml inactivated S. aureus after 168 h in skim and whole milk, and E. coli was inactivated after 96 h in 60 mg/ml extract in all fat levels. These findings show the potential use of Hibiscus extracts to prevent the growth of pathogens in foods and beverages.

Background and Objectives: Meat pie is a popular ready-to-eat food sold in Nigeria and is consumed by people of all classes and category. The study aimed to determine the incidence and susceptibility of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus isolated from meat pie to antibiotics commonly administered in Makurdi.Material and Methods: A total of 180 samples were collected and evaluated for bacterial contamination and presence of antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Contaminants were isolated and identified using biochemical test. Antimicrobial susceptibility of isolates was determined using the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method.Results: Eleven bacterial genera was identified.  Bacillus spp (85%) occurred most frequently, followed by Staphylococcus aureus (38.9%), while Edwardsiella spp (2.8%) occured the least.  Staphylococcus aureus was highly resistant to Cloxacillin (87.1%) but highly susceptible to Ofloxacin (88.6%).  Escherichia coli was resistant to Amoxycillin, Tetracycline, Cloxacillin and Augmentin but susceptible to Gentamicin and Ofloxacin. Conclusion: Meat pie sold in Makurdi habours Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with multiple antibiotic resistance. Regulation of the production and retail process of meat pie is advocated as a possible means of reducing contamination and the risk of transferring antibiotic resistant bacteria to consumers.

The objective of this study was to establish the occurrence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Staphylococcus aureus in several species of sea fish and mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis). The study included a total of 33 samples of frozen sea fish and 64 samples of fresh wild and farmed mussels purchased from the stores. V. parahaemolyticus was isolated and confirmed via PCR in 2 (6%) fish samples (Atlantic cod and Alaska pollock) and 20 (31%) mussel samples. S. aureus was also isolated and confirmed via PCR in 2 (6%) fish samples (Argentine hake and Atlantic cod). Significant differences were found in the total bacterial contamination between wild mussels (6.54 log cfu/g) and farmed mussels (6.69 log cfu/g). Total V. parahaemolyticus count did not show significant differences either between wild (4.45 log cfu/g) and farmed mussels (4.99 log cfu/g). In wild mussels the S. aureus count was found to be 4.50 log cfu/g, while in farmed mussels it was 3.14 log cfu/g. The occurrence of V. parahaemolyticus and S. aureus in fish and mussels presents a risk to the consumer’s health.

The successful conduct of disinfection measures largely depends on the availability of veterinary practice a highly efficient, environmentally safe disinfectants. In this regard, finding new highly efficient disinfectant remains relevant. Studies found that the "Polied" (OOO "Razvitie XXI Vek, Russia) can be attributed to the highly efficient and environmentally friendly means. Solutions "Polied" have a high disinfectant activity against smooth and rough surfaces in the laboratory against gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria and spores of microorganisms. Studies have established that solutions should be "Polied" obezzarajivatmi E. coli (EA 1257) concentrations of 0.1% on smooth surfaces and Staphylococcus aureus concentration of 0.05% in 1 hour from the calculation of 0.25-0.3 litres/m2. Disinfection of rough test surfaces against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus occurred after treatment with 0,3% solution of 3-hour exposure, at a rate of 0.5 l/m2. It was also found that 1.0% solution "Polied" fully obezzarazhivatel test the surface of mycobacteria (PCs-5) and at double the 0.6% concentration for 24 hours. Disinfection of rough test surfaces contaminated with spores of B. cereus (PCs 96) was achieved with a 4.0% solution at twice the irrigation rate of 0.5 l/m2 at an exposure of 24 hours. Toxicity solutions of the drug "Polied" refer to "moderate" threat (hazard class 3) and low-hazard substances (4 hazard class) when applied to the skin, mucous membranes of the eyes, and inhalation exposure on the respiratory system.
