The main purpose of the study was to determine the principals’ application of students’ satisfaction and leadership principles of total quality management for secondary school improvement in Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The study was carried out in Anambra State. The population of the study comprised 6664 principals and teachers (258 principals and 6406 teachers) from the 258 public secondary schools in the six education zones of the State. The sample of this study was 1999 respondents made up of 77 principals and 1922 teachers in secondary schools in Anambra State. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The instrument was validated by three experts in the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The questionnaire reliability was ascertained through a pilot test. The data collected were analyzed with Cronbach Alpha and coefficient values of 0.75 and 0.77 for the two clusters with an overall reliability co-efficient value of 0.76 for the instrument. The data collected from the respondents were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as arithmetic mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics specifically the t-test. Findings revealed that principals applied students’ satisfaction and leadership principles to a moderate extent.

The purpose of this study is to determine the total quality management on teacher professional development in secondary schools in Gharbia Governorate in Egypt. The study involved 66 respondents (47.4 % male & 52.6 % female) secondary school teachers’. The questionnaire consists of both Arabic language as well as English language. It consists of 28 items which includes Create Constancy of Purpose for Improvement (3 items), Adopt the New Philosophy (4 items), Improve constantly (4 items), Institute Training on The Job (9 items), Institute leadership (4 items) and Drive out Fear (4 items) subscales. This instrument was developed to assess the relationship between total quality management on teacher professional development in secondary schools. Data were analysed using frequency, percentage, independent t-test, ANOVA and Pearson Correlation test. The study found that no difference between gender and experiences on professional development. In additional, it was found that out of six dimension of Create Constancy of Purpose for Improvement, Adopt the New Philosophy, improve constantly, Institute Training on The Job, Institute leadership and Drive out Fear have positive relationship on teachers’ professional development. Finally, based on the finding of this study, I wish to suggest that for an improvement future researcher should carry out similar study not only in Gharbia state but also generally in Egypt. Besides, it recommended that should be encourage teachers of secondary school to attend training course and learn recent research and educational studies by providing financial and moral incentives. On the other hand, seminars could be held for high school teachers in order to improve their attitudes and perspectives towards professional development.

Purpose – Total quality management (TQM) is a management approach that was established to seek sources of continuous motion of improvement to provide quality products and services to customers or clients. TQM promotes organizational effectiveness through promoting stakeholder satisfaction, pursuing continuous improvement and fostering proactive leadership. The purpose of this paper is to explore TQM practices in secondary schools. The researchers set objectives which were to identify the TQM principles being practiced in secondary schools, the extent to which these principles are practiced and finally to determine the factors that affect the practice of these principles. The paper includes findings from an exploratory study of TQM practices in Zambian secondary schools. Design/methodology/approach – The research employed a purposive and simple random sampling in order to collect data from 120 secondary school teachers from a total of 1,740 secondary school teachers in Lusaka district drawn from ten secondary schools which were stratified into five zones, namely, Lusaka Central, Chilenje, Mumuni, Chibolya and Chunga zones. Questionnaires and structured scheduled interviews were used to collect data for the research. The research was also anchored on the theoretical and conceptual framework where hypotheses were formed and tested. Findings – The research formed hypotheses based on the seven principles of TQM and this was also verified through the analysis of questionnaires and structured interviews conducted. From the analysis and interpretation of the results, the following was found. Teamwork principle was found to be practiced although most respondents did not know the extent to which it was been practiced. Continuous improvement and training are also principles which were explored and found to be practiced. For continuous improvement, most of the respondents indicated this to have been achieved through carrying out monthly tests and end of term examinations to measure the excellence in-service delivery, as for the training principle; this has been interwoven with the policy of the ministry in programmes aimed at training in-service teachers and anticipated teachers. For the commitment principle, there was commitment from management with a view to working together for pupil satisfaction. For the quality principle, it was found that, at 95 per cent confidence level the mission statement, the motto and the vision of the school depicted quality-related activities. The research also established that at 95 per cent confidence level, teachers were empowered to take direct action whenever action is likely to affect quality. Practical implications – First, the value of this research was to inform management on the need to employ strategies aimed at sensitization programmes before, during and after the programme has come to an end. Second, to promote work attitudes that should promote quality management in education for continuous improvement in pupil performance. Third, for TQM to create a platform among head teachers, teachers, pupils, parents and other stakeholders to work to everyone’s ultimate advantage. Originality/value – This research is original work as it has never been done before in Lusaka district.

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji faktor–faktor berkaitan Pengurusan Kualiti Menyeluruh (PKM) di sekolah–sekolah menengah zon Bukit Mertajam. Faktor–faktor yang dikaji ialah budaya organisasi dan komitmen guru. Kajian yang berbentuk tinjauan korelasi ini merangkumi sejumlah 300 orang guru dari 19 buah sekolah menengah zon Bukit Mertajam yang telah dipilih dengan menggunakan kaedah persampelan rawak mudah. Satu set instrumen kajian yang terdiri daripada tiga bahagian iaitu PKM, budaya organisasi, dan komitmen guru dengan nilai alfa Cronbach masing–masing 0.881, 0.921, dan 0.852 telah digunakan dalam kajian ini. Secara deskriptifnya, dapatan kajian ini menunjukkan: (i) Kebanyakan responden iaitu 65.6 peratus mempunyai persepsi bahawa amalan PKM di sekolah mereka adalah pada tahap yang sederhana manakala persepsi 30.4 peratus responden berada pada tahap tinggi; (ii) Sebanyak 67.3 peratus responden mempunyai persepsi bahawa budaya organisasi mereka berada pada tahap yang sederhana positif; (iii) Kesemua responden berkomitmen sederhana dan tinggi. Di samping itu, penganalisisan data menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara budaya organisasi (r = 0.725) dan komitmen guru (r = 0.901) dengan tahap PKM pada aras signifikan 0.01. Hasil kajian daripada analisis regresi pelbagai kaedah ‘Forward’ pula menunjukkan budaya organisasi dan komitmen guru merupakan peramal yang telah berjaya menyumbang sebanyak 81.7 peratus dalam pelaksanaan PKM ini. Kata kunci: Pengurusan kualiti menyeluruh, budaya organisasi, komitmen guru The aim of this research was to study factors associated with Total Quality Management (TQM) in secondary schools Bukit Mertajam zone. Factors that were studied are organizational culture and teachers’ commitment. This descriptive correlational survey research involved a total of 300 teachers from 19 secondary schools in Bukit Mertajam zone that were selected using the simple random sampling method. A set of research instrument comprising of the three section, namely TQM, organizational culture and teachers’ commitment with Cronbach Alpha value 0.881, 0.921 and 0.852 respectively has been used in this research. In descriptive terms, the research findings showed that: (i) Most of the respondents, 65.6 percent perceived the practice of TQM in their schools was at the moderate level while 30.4 percent respondents perceived the practice of TQM was at the high level; (ii) A total of 67.3 percent respondents perceived their organizational culture as moderate positive level; (iii) All respondents were at the moderate and high commitment. In addition, the data analysis showed that there were positive and significant relationships between the organizational culture (r = 0.725) and teachers’ commitment (r = 0.901) with the level of TQM at significent level = 0.01. Findings of the “Forward” method of multiple regression showed that organizational culture and teachers’ commitment were the predictors in which have successfully contributed 81.7 percent to the practice of TQM. The issue of quality education has become one of the major concerns among government leaders, policymakers and various educational stakeholders. Yet, the application and usefulness of Total Quality Management (TQM) in public secondary schools in Tanzania has remained vague and at times problematic. This study examined the benefits of implementing TQM for the improvement of students’ academic achievement in public secondary schools. For the purpose of this study, Total Quality Management refers to a management approach in which the school's departments, resources and activities are deliberately organized to improve quality and achieve pre-determined educational goals. In conducting this study, a mixed research approach with the convergent parallel design was adopted. Data was collected through interviews and open-ended questionnaires involving 112 respondents from four public secondary schools in Ifakara Town Council, Morogoro, Tanzania. The findings indicate that TQM improves classroom instruction, contributes to employees’ continuous improvement and promotes teamwork among organization departments. Likewise, the findings indicate that TQM enhances good leadership and encourages goal setting in the organization which leads to students’ academic achievement. The paper concludes with recommendations on the interventions to be adopted as a means of promoting the effectual implementation of TQM in public secondary schools. Heads of schools as key implementers of TQM are encouraged by this study to utilize the available resources to promote quality services as well as establishing a model for TQM implementation for students’ academic achievement

Purpose – Reflecting the Mauritian government's “quality” agenda and its focus on school leadership, this paper reports the findings of research exploring Mauritian principals’ views about the use of total quality management (TQM) for school improvement. While aspects of this research have been reported elsewhere, the purpose of this paper is to focus on school leaders’ use of data and evidence in making decisions for school improvement. Design/methodology/approach – The paper reports on qualitative aspects within a mixed methods research with data collected by means of semi-structured interviews conducted with a purposive sample of six principals. The analysis of the data were an exercise in grounded theory building. Findings – The paper expands the knowledge of principals as quantitative data users arguing that qualitative information based on professional discourses, human judgements and lived experiences should be equally valorised if TQM is used for making informed educational decisions. Research limitations/implications – The research relied on principals’ views as the unique source of data. The perspectives of the other stakeholders would offer a richer description of leadership reality in Mauritian schools. Practical implications – The paper suggests a more participatory decision-making model for effective change that could rightfully engage all stakeholders through various complementary quantitative and qualitative processes. It further recommends that alongside the core systemic qualities of TQM, there are ethical, moral and cultural dimensions of leadership that could enhance the teaching and learning environment. Originality/value – While confirming some extant research, the paper brings new thinking to understanding the critical role of principals within the TQM scenario of data-driven decision making.

The study aimed to find out the implementation of teachers’ focus on students and the level of students’ satisfaction, the implementation of the involvement of school’s communities, the implementation of teacher service measurement, the implementation of the commitment of school’s communities, and implementation of teacher services improvement. This particular evaluative research used descriptive-quantitative design. The evaluation model was a discrepancy evaluation model. The research sites were Negeri 2 Pengasih State Vocational High School, Negeri 1 Nanggulan Kulon Program State Vocational High School, Ma’arif 1 Wates Kulon Progo Vocational High School and Muhammadiyah 1 Temon Kulon Progo Vocational High School. The subjects of this study were students, teachers, and principals from four schools. The objects of this research were: (1) the implementation of teachers’ focus on students, (2) the implementation of the involvement of school’s communities, (3) the implementation of teacher service measurement, (4) the implementation of the commitment of school’s communities, and (5) the implementation of teacher service improvement. Data collection techniques were observation, document analysis, and questionnaire. Data collection instruments used observation rubric, document analysis sheets, and questionnaire. The level of implementation reported in a percentage which reports a comparison between the averages score and the maximum score. The results of this study showed that the overall average in four vocational high schools were: (1) the level of teacher's focus on students was 81.13% (very good), and the level of students’ satisfaction was 77.69% (students feel satisfied); (2) the level of involvement of school’s communities was 80.28% (good); (3) the level of teacher service measurement was 77.50% (good); (4) the level of the commitment of school’s communities was 79.77% (good); and (5) the level of teacher service improvement was 77.50% (good).Keywords: total quality management, vocational high school

The study aimed to identify the acquisition degree of technological knowledge by Islamic education teachers in light of the total quality management (TQM) standards in the North-Eastern Badia.To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher prepared and distributed a questionnaire to (212) male and female teachers in the schools of the directorate of education of the North-eastern Badia After conducting the statistical analysis, it was evident that the degree of possessing the technological knowledge was medium, there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the average responses and the members of the study sample regarding the acquisition degree of technological knowledge by the Islamic education teachers in light of the TQM standards according to the variable of gender in favor of females, no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α≥0.05) between the average responses and the members of the study sample regarding the acquisition degree of technological knowledge by the Islamic education teachers in light of the TQM standards according to the scientific qualification variable, and statistically significant differences at the level of (α≥0.05) between the average responses and the members of the study sample regarding the acquisition degree of technological knowledge by the Islamic education teachers in light of the TQM standards according to the variable of experience in favor of the number of years of experience (less than five years).
