Computational Thinking is a skill that guides the 21th century individual in the problems experienced during daily life and it has an ever-increasing significance. Multifarious definitions were attempted to explain the concept of Computational Thinking. However, it was determined that there was no consensus on this matter in the literature and several different concepts were mentioned in the definitions found in the literature. It was considered that this fact made it difficult to understand the concept of Computational Thinking. To establish a more comprehensive approach, the present study aimed to identify the concepts that are included in the Computational Thinking definitions that were presented in previous studies. It also aimed to reveal trends in the identified concepts throughout the years. As a result of the search, a total of 59 definitions were identified and a content analysis was conducted on these definitions. Analysis results demonstrated that Computational Thinking was defined based on several concepts such as problem solving, technology, thinking, individual and social qualities. Furthermore, it was determined that statements on thinking were prominent before 2006, and today, emphasis on problem solving and technology became more significant. It was considered that the present study would contribute to a better understanding of the Computational Thinking concept. At the end of the study, certain suggestions were presented for further research.

The purpose of this study was to examine how Japanese workers ( n = 391) think about “eating a balanced diet” daily. Respondents were 263 men and 128 women whose mean age was 43.1 yr. ( SD= 10.9). Content analysis was used to analyze qualitatively responses to a survey. Responses were categorized into Eating a variety of foods, Different types of foods, and Nutritional components. The category, Eating a variety of foods, contained unique behaviors, such as “not continually eating the same foods” rather than eating specific foods or for nutrition. Because interpretations of what “eating a balanced diet” means varied, nutrition professionals should rephrase their advice into language which specifies more clearly practices for daily life.

Background Persons living with dementia and their caregivers need health information to understand and manage daily life. Previous studies focused on the associations of health literacy and cognitive impairment with less exploring if and how individuals develop health literacy during the course of the disease. Purpose This descriptive qualitative study aimed to explore the development of health literacy competencies among persons living with dementia and their caregivers. Methods Directed content analysis of six focus groups conducted in the community setting (15 persons living with dementia and 28 caregivers) was completed, using predetermined categories from the Integrated Model of Health Literacy: access, understand, appraise, and apply health information. Findings Participants described developing health literacy competencies over time, moving from a dependence on health care providers to becoming their own experts. Although health care providers were involved in the diagnosis and medication management, most participants admitted that they provided very little information on how to manage their daily life with dementia and often failed to inform them of community resources. Conclusion Participants seemed to find dementia resources on their own for both education and support, often stumbling upon them by accident. Health care providers should promote the health literacy competencies of their patients and caregivers by more intentionally providing dementia health and community resource information.

As information and communication technologies (ICTs) become ever more present and pervasive in daily life, the use or non-use of ICTs can provide choices as well as obstacles or exclusion. As people look for ways to reduce ICT use and push back on ICT immersion, some express resistance to ICTs via ICTs. Building on past scholarship based largely on interviews, surveys and textual analysis, this exploratory study analyzes a collection of images posted online that express a critique of the ubiquity and constancy of ICT use, in more dramatic ways than texts allow and in far more subtle ways than a binary division between users and non-users. Our findings of this visual content analysis of 233 images discuss the use of humor, metaphor and blurred boundaries between digital and non-digital worlds in images of resistance and show distinct patterns in representations of problems engendered by ICTs, their criticism and in the antidotes suggested in the images.

Background Psychometric limitations of balance measures for community-dwelling elderly may be related to gaps in task and environmental representation. Objective The purposes of this study were: (1) to conduct item-level content analysis of balance measures for community-dwelling elderly people based on task and environmental factors and (2) to develop profiles of individual measures summarizing their task and environment representation. Design A systematic content analysis was conducted. Methods A literature search was conducted to identify balance measures. Item-level content analysis was based on 7 criteria related to task and environment: (1) task role, (2) environmental variation, (3) object interaction, (4) obstacle negotiation, (5) external forces, (6) dual-tasking, and (7) moving people or objects in the environment. Results Twenty-six measures, containing 167 items, were identified. Task role was fairly evenly distributed, with the majority of items examining gait tasks (32.3%), followed by dynamic body stability (29.9%) and static body stability (25.1%). The majority of items involved no environmental variation (58.1%), followed by variation of support surfaces (20.4%), visual conditions (13.2%), and both support and visual conditions (8.4%). Limited task role variability was seen within measures, with 73.1% of measures examining only one task role. Environmental variation was present in 65.3% of measures, primarily during static body stability tasks. Few measures involved object interaction (23.1%), obstacle negotiation (38.5%), external forces (11.5%), dual-tasking (7.7%), or moving people or objects (0%). Limitations The classification framework was not externally validated. Conclusions Existing measures focus on single-task assessment in static environments, underrepresenting postural control demands in daily-life situations involving dynamic changing environments, person-environment interactions, and multitasking. New items better reflecting postural control demands in daily-life situations are needed for more ecologically valid balance assessment. Individual balance measure profiles provided can help identify the most appropriate measure for a given purpose.

The aim of this study was to investigate the experiences of persons with severe functional disabilities who receive personal assistance in their homes, the focus being on their daily life in relation to the ethical principles represented in the Swedish Disability Act: autonomy, integrity, influence and participation. Qualitative interviews were performed with 26 persons and thereafter subjected to qualitative latent content analysis. The experiences of personal assistance were very much in accordance with the said principles, the most important factor being that one is met with understanding. The participants described situations in which their integrity was violated in that they were not treated as competent adults. This indicates the importance of future efforts in nursing to support personal assistants with ethical knowledge and supervision so that they can empower people with disabilities and thereby enable them to maintain their self-esteem and dignity.

In individual terms, unemployment situations cause both a destructuring of daily life practices and a loss of resources and socioeconomic conditions that were previously taken for granted. This is a vulnerable situation that results simultaneously in forms of disaffiliation and social disqualification, with consequences in the rise of poverty and social inequality. Unemployed people live the present in a state of constant uncertainty that makes it hard to construct coherent prospects for the future. Basing itself on a sociological problematisation of social time, this article seeks to operationalise a set of categories and temporal profiles that are derived from unemployment situations and to identify different variants of a lived temporality which the authors call forced downtime. The investigation is the product of an analysis of 46 in-depth interviews of relatively older unemployed persons who live in Portugal and possess low or intermediate levels of schooling. Content analysis shows that there are different ways in which interviewees experience distinct temporal dimensions.
