There is no doubt about the relevance of Computing in Education (CE), especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the more we deal with computational artifacts in Education, the more we will have to face ethical dilemmas and concerns behind the engineering of the educational artifact and its values and qualities. In the context of the Brazilian Symposium on Computers in Education (SBIE), this paper aims to answer the question: what is the panorama of the occurrence of ethical aspects in SBIE publications between 2011-2020? To answer this question, we followed the methodology of Systematic Literature Review. We analyze topics such as Informed Consent, Ethics Committee, technological domains, ethical principles, and research contexts.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Tribal communities in the United States (U.S.) have a long history of subjection to unethical and exploitive medical and research practices. Today, many Tribal nations are establishing procedures in order to protect themselves from further harm and to advance culturally informed research practices. These procedures are also meant to ensure that their communities benefit from research conducted within their communities. Informed consent is a key element in protecting human subjects, but it may not be sufficient in the tribal context, as its conception is rooted in Western understandings of protection. Specifically, the informed consent emphasizes the individual, rather than the community as a whole, which is just as important in the context of conducting research with Native communities.METHODS: We conduct a systematic literature review to answer two related questions: How is informed consent being conceived of by U.S. tribes? And how is informed consent being required by U.S. tribes? Our inclusion criteria include articles focusing on informed consent within the U.S. tribal context, written in English in 2010-2020. Articles that did not fit our inclusion criteria were excluded. Two reviewers independently reviewed and coded 30 peer-reviewed articles by using content analysis and, in an iterative process, agreed on emerging codes and themes. RESULTS: A number of themes arise in the selected literature, including the conception of informed consent as a process, its operation at various levels (individual, collective, and government-to-government), possible alternatives to informed consent, and the need for specificity about ownership of samples and data, benefits and/or risks, and the methods and procedures that researchers use in the course of study.CONCLUSIONS: Our key results point to a need for clear and transparent information for prospective research participants and for consent forms and processes to include the collective, as well as the individual. This will better align with the cultural values and political standing of sovereign tribes in the U.S.

Today, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can offer solutions to many social problems, including those used to diagnose and treat diseases. However, for this it is necessary to provide an appropriate legal basis. The article presents a brief history of the development of AI, explains the conceptual apparatus, describes the legal basis for its development and implementation in Russian healthcare, the methodology for conducting clinical trials of AI systems, and gives their classification. Particular attention is paid to the ethical principles of clinical trials of AI systems. The ethical examination of projects of clinical trials of AI systems by the Ethics Committee is considered in detail.

This systematic literature review used nursing studies about "ethics" published in the SCIELO database. The objective was to identify the ethical dilemmas of nursing, based on a literature review of nursing publications between 2002 and 2006. Forty publications were found, of which seventeen were selected. The analysis of the articles permitted the organization of the following categories: ethics, the health system and nursing practice; ethics and nursing teaching-learning; ethics and nursing care. We noticed that the authors attributed a multidimensional approach to ethical issues. However, we considered it necessary to pay closer attention to the ethical aspects involved in nursing practice. There is a clear need for further studies, showing new ethical dilemmas experienced by nurses, so that they can contribute to a change in attitude, with outcomes for professional practice.

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) not only yields in advantages for healthcare but raises several ethical questions. Extant research on ethical considerations of AI in digital health is quite sparse and a holistic overview is lacking. A systematic literature review searching across 853 peer-reviewed journals and conferences yielded in 50 relevant articles categorized in five major ethical principles: beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, justice, and explicability. The ethical landscape of AI in digital health is portrayed including a snapshot guiding future development. The status quo highlights potential areas with little empirical but required research. Less explored areas with remaining ethical questions are validated and guide scholars’ efforts by outlining an overview of addressed ethical principles and intensity of studies including correlations. Practitioners understand novel questions AI raises eventually leading to properly regulated implementations and further comprehend that society is on its way from supporting technologies to autonomous decision-making systems.

The sections of this chapter discuss both evaluation and management of legal and ethical aspects of the physician assistant (PA) profession, taking into consideration that the PA practice flows out of an interconnected relationship between the PA, the physician, and the patient. PAs are called to fulfill not only the law when practicing but also rise to uphold ethical principles. There are a variety of situations a provider can encounter throughout a career. Some topics are present in every patient encounter, such as confidentiality and informed consent. Some topics may only be present in certain cases, such as advanced directives and futile treatment. Nevertheless, the provider should be knowledgeable about each of these legal and ethical situations and understand the evaluation and management of them.

Is there an Ethical thinking in the development of Information Systems research and engineering in Brazil? The immanence of information systems is multidisciplinary and encompasses socio-technical plurality, unlike other areas of computing, such as computer science or engineering. When considering the epistemological breadth of the discipline, which starts from technique to the study of application, impact, influence and use; the importance of the domain of Ethics becomes paramount. How to think-do Information Systems without reasoning ethically about it? We conducted a Systematic Literature Review guided by the main research question: how does ethics permeate research published in the SBSI between 2011 and 2020? At the same time, how does this phenomenon relate to the Great Challenges in Information Systems (2016-2026)? less than 10% of the more than 700 articles published deal with some ethical aspect, superficially; and less than 1% with ownership. The Ethics Committee was reported in only one article, with very few occurrences of informed consent. That is, SBSI finds itself in a scenario of deep scarcity and shallowness in this topic.
