On behalf of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Disaster Research (JDR), it is my great honor and pleasure to present the 2021 JDR Award to Prof. and Dr. Suminao Murakami, or “Murakami Sensei.” Murakami Sensei has served as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the JDR for the past 16 years, since 2006. The JDR has now published more than 100 issues, becoming recognized as the leading Japan-based, international online peer-review journal on disaster risk reduction for all hazards except war, and Murakami Sensei has always been its greatest contributor. The Editorial Board reluctantly respected Murakami Sensei’s decision to resign from the position of Editor-in-Chief, but it has unanimously agreed to rename the JDR Award to the MURAKAMI Suminao Award for Disaster Research from 2022 on. The Journal of Disaster Research will continue its best efforts “to reduce the horrors of disaster through information,” as Murakami Sensei and Takiguchi Sensei wrote in the Message from the Editors-in-Chief in the first issue of the JDR.

Aim of the Study: To assess the effectiveness of planned teaching on assisting self-care activities of patients with plaster of Paris casts of lower extremities among caregivers. Study Design: The design that will be used in the study is One Group Pretest Posttest research design.  Methodology: A study used a pre-test post-test design with no control group and a pre-experimental design. The impact of planned teaching on assisting self-care activities of patients with plaster of Paris casts of the lower extremities among caregivers will be assessed using the purposive sampling technique. In this study Evaluatory research approach will be used. Selected 100 caregivers of patients with plaster of Paris cast of lower extremities will be assessed primarily for knowledge in assisting self-care activities by structured questionnaires and then planned teaching will be given to the selected sample developed by researcher as intervention. Expected Results: To assess the effectiveness of planned teaching on assisting self-care activities of patients with plaster of Paris casts of lower extremities among caregivers. In this study the planned teaching will be useful in improving the caregivers knowledge in assisting selfcare activities. Conclusion: The conclusion will be drawn from the results and will be published in per review journal.

Abstract Background: Meta-analyses are on top of the evidence-based medicine pyramid, yet many of them are not completed after they are begun. Many factors impacting the publication of meta-analysis works have been discussed, and their association with publication likelihood has been investigated. These factors include the type of systematic review, journal metrics, h-index of the corresponding author, country of the corresponding author, funding sources, and duration of publication. In our current review, we aim to investigate these various factors and their impact on the likelihood of publication. A comprehensive review of 397 registered protocols retrieved from five databases was performed to investigate the different factors that might affect the likelihood of publication. These factors include the type of systematic review, journal metrics, h-index of the corresponding author, country of the corresponding author, funding sources, and duration of publication. Results: We found that corresponding authors in developed countries and English-speaking countries had higher likelihoods of publication: 206/320 (p=0.018) and 158/236 (p=0.006), respectively. Our models of multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that two main factors impact the publication outcome: updated protocol status of the published review paper (OR: 1.7, 95% CI: 1.0-2.8, p=0.037) and external funding (OR: 2.1, 95% CI: 1.2-3.8, p=0.01). However, corresponding authors’ location in developed countries (OR: 1.7, 95% CI: 0.8-3.4, p=0.139) and English-speaking countries (OR: 1.5, 95% CI: 0.9-2.6, p=0.1) were insignificant determinants. Conclusion: Meta-analyses continue to be on top of the evidence hierarchy, rendering them the key to informed clinical decision-making. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the methodological quality of this type of publication.
