This paper proposes a modification of the imperialist competitive algorithm to solve multi-objective optimization problems with hybrid methods (MOHMICA) based on a modification of the imperialist competitive algorithm with hybrid methods (HMICA). The rationale for this is that there is an obvious disadvantage of HMICA in that it can only solve single-objective optimization problems but cannot solve multi-objective optimization problems. In order to adapt to the characteristics of multi-objective optimization problems, this paper improves the establishment of the initial empires and colony allocation mechanism and empire competition in HMICA, and introduces an external archiving strategy. A total of 12 benchmark functions are calculated, including 10 bi-objective and 2 tri-objective benchmarks. Four metrics are used to verify the quality of MOHMICA. Then, a new comprehensive evaluation method is proposed, called “radar map method”, which could comprehensively evaluate the convergence and distribution performance of multi-objective optimization algorithm. It can be seen from the four coordinate axes of the radar maps that this is a symmetrical evaluation method. For this evaluation method, the larger the radar map area is, the better the calculation result of the algorithm. Using this new evaluation method, the algorithm proposed in this paper is compared with seven other high-quality algorithms. The radar map area of MOHMICA is at least 14.06% larger than that of other algorithms. Therefore, it is proven that MOHMICA has advantages as a whole.

Abstract Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) is a new type of composite material that is widely used in the aviation field, the influence mechanism of fiber cutting angle on cutting force is analyzed, a theoretical model of ultrasonic assisted cutting force for CFRP is established, ultrasonic assisted longitudinal-torsional cutting experiments of CFRP disc are carried out, and compared with normal cutting process. According to the experimental results, the radar map of the cutting force along the circumference of CFRP unidirectional laminates is established, which show that the cutting force can be reduced by ultrasonic assisted cutting compared with ordinary cutting. Under the three cutting modes, the fiber cutting angle has a great influence on the tangential force, and the radial force of the same fiber cutting angle is less than the tangential force, the maximum radial force appeared near the fiber cutting angle of 120°, while the minimum tangential force and the minimum radial force both appear near the parallel direction cutting at 0°. The research results can be used for reference in the processing of CFRP and other composite materials.

Abstract. Mobile robotics applications in outdoor environments now use intensively Global Positioning System (GPS). For localization or navigation operations, GPS has become an essential tool due to its ease of use, its precision, and its worldwide accessibility. The increase of autonomy level in mobile robotics implies a robust centimeter-level positioning, but the presence of natural (trees, mountains) or man-made obstacles (buildings) can degrade or prevent GPS signals reception. We present in this paper a solution for robots localization based on PELICAN microwave radar. PELICAN radar provides each second a panoramic image of the surrounding environment. These images are concatenated through a Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM) algorithm in order to build global maps of the traveled environments. The proposed solution computes the position and orientation of the robot through a real-time 3D matching between the current radar image and a pre-existing radar map constructed during an exploratory phase.

This paper considers managerial approaches to increase efficiency of the urban transport system such as promotion and integration of sustainable modes of transport, development of public transport route network, renewing the existing vehicle fleet and shift to environmental friendly fuel types in the public transport system. To assess such kind of efficiency, it is proposed to take into account the economic viability of suggested solutions as well as their influence on social sphere, environmental friendliness and sustainability of the urban transport system. The city of Naberezhnye Chelny (Russia) was chosen for the case study, where the following measures were modelled: changes of bus route network and choice of an optimal fleet on routes depending on passenger flow by hours of day. In addition, the efficiency of these measures were assessed. To evaluate the sustainability of the proposed route network, the method of “radar map” was used, which shows both strengths and weaknesses of selected indicators. Together with this evaluation, analysis of risks in managing the urban bus transportation was carried out.

In order to obtain the position of thunderstorm cloud in real time and make it possible to track the thunderstorm cloud motion, a method is proposed for tracking the moving path of thunderstorm cloud, with the aid of the three-dimensional atmospheric electric field apparatus (AEFA). According to the method of images, we establish a spatial model for tracking the moving path. Based on the model, we define the dynamic parameters of thunderstorm cloud position. Subsequently, to realize the moving path tracking of thunderstorm cloud, its coordinates are associated with the time points. Besides, we use the relationship between electric field component measurement error, horizontal angle, elevation angle, and the tracking accuracy to analyze the tracking performance. Finally, a fusion system combining an electric field measurement unit, electric field calibration unit, and permittivity measurement unit is designed to meet the actual needs. The results show that the method can accurately track the thunderstorm cloud moving path and has a better effect. In addition, the method can also be combined with a radar map, thus better predicting the development of the thunderstorm cloud.

Different regions in China have different energy consumption characteristics and changing trends. This paper focuses on analyzing trends in energy consumption changes along the timeline for 30 regions in China. Using the Hybrid Input-Output Model, this paper decomposes energy consumption in 30 regions in 2007, 2012 and 2016 into energy embedded of final consumption expenditure, gross capital formation, inflow and outflow. We use these four dimensions as coordinates to draw a regional radar map. According to the changing characteristics of the radar map, 30 regions are divided into three groups. By analyzing the reasons for the changes in three regions, we draw the following conclusions. For regions where energy consumption is mainly inflow, the economically developed regions have to form a low energy consumption environment while achieving economic growth. The economically underdeveloped regions need to carry out energy conservation and emission reduction as well as ensuring the level of economic development. For some outflow regions with moderately economic development, it is necessary to balance the economic development and energy consumption control according to regional characteristics. For resource-rich regions which are in the process of transformation from agriculture to industrialization, they have to maintain the rapid development speed and strengthen their infrastructure with less energy consumption of buildings.
