Nanoparticles have as characteristics super sliding, extreme pressure, self-healing, etc., which can improve the friction reduction and anti-wear performance of sliding components, when used as lubricating oil additives. Nano-copper particles have a good synergistic effect with other antifriction agents, anti-wear agents, antioxidants and grease additives because of their low shear strength and grain boundary slip effect, showing a better anti-friction and anti-wear effect. However, nanoparticles are prone to conglomerate, and this causes a bottleneck in the application of dispersant for nano-copper in a lubricating oil system. The regulation of nanosized effect and surface properties has great engineering significance in compensating for the precision in manufacturing accuracy. This paper comprehensively reviews the tribological research progress of nano-copper as a lubricant additive, which provides a reference to the application of nano-copper particles as lubricating oil additives on engineering tribology.

Abstract The aim of the research is to ensure that the material has functional mechanical properties as well as high-damping value. The microstructure, elemental composition, second phase distribution and interface structure of the Mg-based composite with different particle sizes were characterized by Optical Microscope(OM), X-Ray Diffractometer(XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM), Transmission Electron Microscope(TEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS). The mechanical and damping properties of the ZK60 magnesium matrix composites were investigated an Instron5982 universal tester and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). The results indicate that nanodiamond(ND) can disperse well in the composites. The elastic modulus of composite can reach 9.9GPa after reinforcement phase being added. Under certain conditions, the damping value can reach beyond 2.5×10-1, which is 117% of other composite. High-temperature damping depends on grain boundary slip and interface slip. The interfacial damping depends on the difference in the incoherent interface and thermal expansion coefficient between the nanodiamond and ZK60 matrix to slip and improve the damping value.

Based on molecular dynamics simulations, the creep behaviors of nanocrystalline Ni before and after the segregation of Mo atoms at grain boundaries are comparatively investigated with the influences of external stress, grain size, temperature, and the concentration of Mo atoms taken into consideration. The results show that the creep strain rate of nanocrystalline Ni decreases significantly after the segregation of Mo atoms at grain boundaries due to the increase of the activation energy. The creep mechanisms corresponding to low, medium, and high stress states are respectively diffusion, grain boundary slip and dislocation activities based on the analysis of stress exponent and grain size exponent for both pure Ni and segregated Ni-Mo samples. Importantly, the influence of external stress and grain size on the creep strain rate of segregated Ni-Mo samples agrees well with the classical Bird-Dorn-Mukherjee model. The results also show that segregation has little effect on the creep process dominated by lattice diffusion. However, it can effectively reduce the strain rate of the creep deformation dominated by grain boundary behaviors and dislocation activities, where the creep rate decreases when increasing the concentration of Mo atoms at grain boundaries within a certain range.

AbstractThe flow state of oil film in the hydrostatic lead screw directly affects the transmission performance of the screw pair. The static and dynamic characteristics of a new type of double driven hydrostatic screw-nut pair (DDHSNP) are studied under different motion modes. The boundary condition of navier slip model is introduced into the lubricating mathematical model of DDHSNP, and the influences of boundary slip on the axial bearing capacity, axial stiffness and damping coefficient in micro scale are researched by finite difference method. The results show that when the motor runs at high speed (the rotating speed range of the screw and nut driven motor is 1000–9000 rpm), the existence of boundary slip leads to a improvement of the axial bearing capacity and stiffness coefficient of DDHSNP in the case of single-drive operation and dual-drive differential feed (the range of rotation difference is 10–100 rpm), which is more obvious under the single-drive mode. The increase rate of stiffness coefficient induced by boundary slip is much larger than that of bearing capacity. In addition, the boundary slip has little effect on the damping coefficient of DDHSNP in either single drive operation or dual drive differential operation.

Abstract Shale oil is an unconventional petroleum resource which has high total organic carbon (TOC) content and abundant nanopores. The transport behavior of oil through organic rich shales cannot be described by the classical Darcy law due to its complex pore structure and the complicated distribution of organic matter, which results in nanoconfined effects. In this work, on the basis of the boundary slip phenomenon and the fractal scaling theory, a model for oil transport in shale matrix is established considering nanoconfined effects and adsorbed organic matter. The results show that it is necessary to make correction of viscosity and the boundary slip length in order to accurately describe the flow behavior of oil in shale matrix with mixed wettability nanopores. Long chain molecules are more sensitive to nanoconfined effects, especially when adsorbed organic matter is considered. Also, the oil transport capacity in organic shale matrix is greatly enhanced compared to the classical no-slip permeability model. Meanwhile is the oil transport capacity is significantly reduced in inorganic shale matrix. This work shows that the identification of higher TOC region and considering the nanoconfined effects are necessary from the concept of oil transport in shale matrix.

The microstructure evolution and deformation mechanism of the as-extruded-annealed Mg-4Li-1Al-0.5Y alloy (denoted as LAY410) were investigated during the hot tensile deformation at the temperatures between 150°C and 300°C with strains from 8 × 10−5 s−1 to 1.6 × 10−3 s−1. The results show that when the strain rate decreases and/or the deformation temperature increases, the peak stress of the alloy gradually decreases, and the elongations to fracture gradually increases. The true stress–strain curves show typical dynamic recrystallization (DRX) softening characteristics. It is observed that the microstructure in the magnesium (Mg) alloy deformed at 150°C is mainly composed of the deformed grains and a few recrystallized grains. The microstructures in the Mg alloy deformed at 200°C consisted of substructures and a slightly increasing number of dynamic recrystallized grains. When the deformation temperature reaches 250°C, the number of recrystallized grains increases significantly, and the microstructures are dominated by recrystallized grains. Moreover, through theoretical calculation and result analysis, the activation energy was about 99.3 kJ/mol, and the hot tensile deformation mechanism was the alternate coordinated deformation mechanism among grain boundary slip (GBS), intragranular slip, and DRX.
