This chapter examines two approaches to the concept of management and the planning process: firstly the approach proposed by Bailey and Peak and secondly by Sorensen. Bailey and Peak present a review of all business functions to determine the competency of each function and then suggest a number of research and analysis techniques for reviewing the finances and the various external interactions with the organisation from competitors. Sorensen proposes using the resource-based view to analyse the competitive situation, followed by creating the business model and then developing the planning documents for business development. Sorensen asserts that ‘what the customer values' is a focal point of the approach to business development. The internal strength and weakness analysis investigates the value chain, processes, resources, and capabilities, and the external opportunities and threat analysis review customers, market, and competitors.

The pharmaceutical market of Ukraine is characterized by a tendency to dominate imports over exports, which indicates its economic attractiveness for foreign companies that face various obstacles when entering the market. Entry barriers are understood as factors of an objective or subjective nature that prevent new firms from organizing profitable operations in the industry. The presence and impact of market barriers prove the need for their identification and comprehensive research. It has been established that when entering the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine, there are restrictive barriers related to state policy (for example, licensing, registration of medicines, examination, certification, etc.), barriers due to competition, and barriers of a non-legal nature. The results of the analysis of the competitive situation as a possible barrier characterize the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine as a market of free competition, which contributes to the relatively free entry of foreign manufacturers. Market entry barriers are also caused by anti-competitive behavior such as mergers and acquisitions, unfair competition, informal agreements, and so on. The results of the research can be used in making decisions about entering new markets or market segments for pharmaceutical companies, in forming competitive advantages and business strategies in order to develop potential in the long term.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to review and understand the dimensionality of hypercompetition, factors causing a hypercompetitive environment and the consequences of hypercompetition on markets. Thereby, the purpose of the study is to cover the main contributors in the research field of hypercompetition and explore their findings and different views on hypercompetition. Design/methodology/approach Systematically review 131 conceptual and empirical studies published or presented at a conference in the past 25 years, with the focus on the definitions, causes and consequences (or presumed effects) of hypercompetition. In the paper, I follow the well-known systematic literature review method by Tranfield et al. (2003). Findings The contribution of the study is to advance the knowledge of researchers and managers, in such a way that it becomes easier for them to select relevant variables to measure hypercompetition and identify strategies for gaining temporary competitive advantages in hypercompetitive environments. The construct of hypercompetition required a consolidation of commonalities in the definitions and characteristics used by scholars, to ensure that proper assumptions and variables are being used to measure hypercompetition in future research. Several ways to measure the effects of hypercompetition on firms, industries and individuals have been proposed, but the field still lacks of a clear definition on how to directly measure the construct. Practical implications In this paper, I highlight three managerial implications of hypercompetition as follows: action-based strategy, the determinants of hypercompetition and the importance for managers of accurately establishing their firm’s competitive situation. Originality/value Previous reviews in the area have either focussed on specific components or effects of hypercompetition. The present study collectively takes into consideration the definitions, causes and consequences of hypercompetition on firms, industries and individuals. The contribution of the paper is to indicate future opportunities and challenges within research on hypercompetition.

An enterprise must be able to conduct in-depth analysis of the existing data as the information has certain grey characteristics, if it wants to occupy a dominant position in the fierce market competition. In this paper, a compound three-dimensional grey Lotka–Volterra model is developed to carry out the grey transformation of the original data, so that the data can have better simulation accuracy, and the observation noise of the original data can be reduced. The competitive situation analysis based on the three-dimensional grey Lotka–Volterra model can help enterprises better understand the market situation. This paper takes the luxury brand automobile market in mainland China as an example to conduct a competitive analysis and a balanced development simulation. It can be found that, based on Three Species System Analysis, there is a symbiotic relationship among automobile enterprises and that the three species model can be adopted in analyzing the competition and cooperation among enterprises. Through balanced development of a Symbiotic System Analysis, the results of symbiotic optimization under the achievable equilibrium state of three populations are obtained and they show that the proposed method can be used effectively to conduct the market competition analysis. It is thus of great importance to study the relationships among enterprises as it is helpful for enterprises to make strategic policies.

PT SH is a company that distributes veterinary medicinal products produced by Lallemand Animal Nutrition (France) and several products from other suppliers. This product from Lallemand is included in the feed additive class which functions to increase livestock productivity with better feed conversion. Competition in product sales in this group greatly affects the sales of feed additives for PT SH. Therefore, this study uses CAP and CSP analysis to analyze the marketing of PT SH, and analyzes the competition between PT SH and other companies in the sale of feed additives. CAP analysis consists of marketing strategy, tactics and values, while CSP analysis consists of customer demand, competitive situation, and variable factors. CAP analysis gives an average score of 2.82, this mid score indicates that the strategies and tactics used as well as the marketing value of PT SH need to be improved in order to increase PT SH's feed additive sales. CSP analysis gives an average score of 3.56, this fairly large score indicates that PT SH's competition with other companies is quite strong in the sale of feed additives. This requires PT SH to maintain quality, improve marketing strategy services to increase sales of feed additives, so that PT SH is not left behind by other companies. Cost is the essence of any production process for it is one of the requirements for the continuity of activities so as to increase the profitability of the economic unit and to support the competitive situation in the market. Therefore, there should be an overall control to reduce the cost without compromising the product quality; to achieve this, the management should have detailed credible and reliable information about the cost to be measured, collected, understood and to analyze the causes for the spread of deviations and obstacles the management faces, and to search for the factors that trigger the emergence of these deviations and obstacles

This paper poses a few questions about the link between athletic experience and entrepreneurial behavior. Does athletic experience affect entrepreneurial attitudes, decisions, and, therefore, outcomes? If so, is it specifically their competitive orientation that drives these differences? This paper uses survey data to observe differences in attitudes, decisions, leadership, and strategy between athletes and non-athletes. This paper also implements an experiment, which randomly assigns half of the participants to be primed by recalling a competitive situation to test whether differences in behavior between athletes and non-athletes can be attributed to a competitive mindset. The survey undertaken for this purpose received 100 responses. In this research, I also specifically examine the role that a competitive mindset, which is frequently developed through sports, plays in entrepreneurial attitudes, priorities, and strategies. This paper tests if athletes and non-athletes make different decisions in the face of entrepreneurial challenges. It also examines whether any of those differences can be attributed to the competitive orientation of people with athletic experience.

The high competition situation forces the company to further increase its competitiveness until it reaches a level of superior competitive advantage. Companies are required to increase capacity in an effort to satisfy consumer needs. Apart from that, simultaneously, the company is also responsible for profitability in order to satisfy shareholders. In this situation, the company is always aware of and trying to understand the changes that occur in the market structure and the competition that is being faced (fundamental, incremental, or radical), so that efforts to satisfy consumers and shareholders continue to be carried out simultaneously. Many companies experience panic when facing a situation of very high competition because the business challenges faced today are far greater than they have been faced in the past. Economic globalization, where products in the form of goods and services flow freely between countries, has put higher pressure on companies to be competitive. Therefore, a strategic management approach is needed, a managerial approach that is comprehensive and long-term oriented in managing company growth in a competitive situation that contains risks in an atmosphere of uncertainty so that the company is able to survive and develop in a sustainable manner.
