This paper is based on the experience gained while transcribing the audio recording of the round table discussion on polyglottery and education held at the international conference Multilingual Proficiency: Language, Polyglossia and Polyglottery (New York City, 2013). The discussion covered such topics as the definitions of a polyglot, the measurement of language knowledge, the phenomenon of switching languages in speech and the implementation of polyglots’ experience in language education systems. A summary of the discussion is provided, the key ideas of the participants are pointed out, and some personal observations on the matter are shared, including the difficulties confronted during the process of transcription.

Abstract Suction-assisted lipectomy (or “liposuction”) is a fundamental technique for all plastic surgeons, and like many procedures in aesthetic surgery, its applications are continuing to evolve. With the rapid introduction of new technologies, many plastic surgeons are left with questions about how these new devices work, what results to expect, and how to best apply these technologies in their practice. We recognized that there is a need for unbiased recommendations to guide surgeons on how to approach current liposuction devices (as well as their adjuncts), and how to use them effectively for their patients. Using available literature and personal experience, we answer the most common questions that we hear from our plastic surgery colleagues.

First international Advanced Nursing Practice conference in Slovenia brought world leading academic scholars to exchange and share their experiences on Advance Nursing Practice (ANP) education and practice. Special emphasis will be put on presentation of competencies, roles and scope of practice. Aim of our conference was to bring ANP education and especially the nature of ANP practice closer to an academic and clinical environment as well to decision making bodies in government and other professional groups in Slovenia. Numerous studies have shown that advanced practice nurses can provide quality patient care by role extension or expansion, contribute to efficacy, cost efficiency, patient satisfaction, reduced (re)hospitalizations, and reduced mortality. Experts from countries where ANP is well established and experts from countries where ANP is in the beginning stages of development participated in round table discussion. Conclusions of the round table discussion produced future direction for development of ANP in Slovenia.

As it grew safer for schools to reopen fully in spring 2021, FORUM convened a roundtable discussion to hear more about the experience of teaching and learning through the pandemic, and how that experience might help us rethink the education system. Melissa Benn chaired this wide-ranging and insightful conversation between Eliane Glaser, a parent and writer, Jim Hudson, a secondary teacher of citizenship and history, Mary Bousted, joint general secretary of the National Education Union, and Patrick Yarker, the editor of this journal.

In a kitchen table discussion, a Métis genealogist and his Cree-Métis librarian daughter talk about the ways Indigenous people navigate archives, oral history, and research; discuss the inaccuracies that exist in records relating to Indigenous people; and consider the ways that records can supplement oral history about Métis culture.

How much has the world around us changed for the past year? What kinds of societal shifts have occurred in some spheres such as sociological research, secondary and higher education, management, journalism, interpersonal communication or social work? What other kinds of transformation is society likely to undergo in the near future? These were the questions that both participants in and guests of the 14th annual conference in memory of Natalia Panina (1949–2006) sought to answer. The conference, also known as the International Sociological Readings, took place on 10 December 2020 and was hosted by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Structurally, the event consisted of two parts: a plenary session and a round-table discussion. At the plenary session, four speeches were delivered: “Survey techniques during the pandemic” (V. Paniotto), “Social inequality and extraordinary events” (S. Makeev and N. Kovalisko), “Higher education in times of and post-COVID-19” (V. Bakirov and M. Aharkov), “COVID-19: New daily routines of Ukrainian teachers, students and parents” (O. Maksymenko). The round-table discussion titled “Society and pandemic” was open to everyone interested. They could join the discussion via Google Meet. The Readings ended with the presentation of a book “Separate sociological approximations” authored by Serhii Makeev.
