Psalm 23 is one of the psalms of the figurative imaginary of God's existence as a good shepherd. The portrayal of God's existence as a good shepherd brings happiness or blessing to the psalmist. When searching the six verses carefully then verse 5a implies the 'concept of eschatological blessing' for the psalmist who acknowledges and believes in the nurturing of God in his life. The eschatological point of view of Psalm 23: 5a is evident from his statement that "You have prepared my table before me, you have anointed me with oil."

After an introduction into translating biblical poetry as a new communication event in the target culture (and not as a documentation of a source culture event), an analysis is made of a Dutch poetic translation of Psalms 23 and 121 and a Frisian poetic translation of Psalm 23. Of the poetic features and means of expression in these translations, Dutch and Frisian patterns ofmeter are the most important. When a poetic translation of biblical poetry follows genre conventions of the target language and culture (rather than attempting but failing to reproduce the poetic features of the source text), such a translation is able to generate a new, direct communication event that reduces the distance between the hearer/receiver of the target culture and the text of the source culture. Such a translation engages the hearer more effectively in responding to the text, because the poetic features of the target language facilitate the expressive, appellative and phatic functions of the communication. This should be an encouragement to translators to render different types of biblical poetry into different genres and poetic patterns of the target language that will actually fit the subject matter of the text into the context of the target culture.

Since the time of Mowinckel, the verb בקר (pi) in Psalm 27:4 was often interpreted as referring to a priest’s function of examining an offering. The parallel part of the verse and other intratextual and intertextual considerations render this interpretation of the verb improbable. The context of the psalm and the cluster of Psalms 25–34, as well as parallels Psalm 27 has with Psalm 23, suggest that the verb בקר refers to reflection on the privilege of being in YHWH’s presence. The enjoyment of such communion with YHWH, which includes the study of his Torah, is portrayed as the culmination of the journey of life in Psalms 25–34. The author argues that this is also hinted at in Psalm 27.Contribution: The contribution of this article towards the focus of HTS as “Historical Thought and Source Interpretation” centered around its use of the literary context of a psalm to question the notion of a reconstructed cultic setting as the only possible hermeneutical key to interpret Psalm 27.

Abstract: Pastoral conducted by Christian religious education teachers is the preaching of God’s word toward every student or a group of students in order to shape their character as Jesus’ disciples. By pastoral, students are also expected to be more aware of the importance of building a good relationship with God. Consequently, this study aims to describe pastoral by Christian religious education teachers. Based on the results of hermeneutic approach, it was found several pastoral matters that may need to be conducted by Christian religious education teachers based on Psalm 23: 1-6, namely: (1) providing students’ needs; (2) guiding; (3) protecting, and (4) take care of students. Through the pastoral, the learning process can be more effective and efficient. Furthermore, students will also experience their life changes, for instance, their behaviours to be better according to Christian values. Abstrak: Penggembalaan yang dilakukan guru pendidikan agama Kristen merupakan penyampaian Firman Tuhan kepada setiap pribadi atau sekelompok peserta didik supaya karakter siswa tersebut terbentuk sebagai murid Kristus. In this essay, I argue that Psalm 23 serves as a thematic rubric through which to understand how Prospero’s machinations affect the progress of the redemption of King Alonso throughout the play. At the same time, however, recognizing Prospero’s moral complexities and deficiencies, I also argue that Prospero’s mercy toward and reconciliation with Alonso ultimately demonstrates the sovereign influence of a Providence beyond Prospero’s control—a Providence that works through charity and grace beyond Prospero’s initial intentions. This higher providential power, therefore, ought rightly to be seen as the ultimate shepherd of the play—one who works to affect not only Alonso’s but also Prospero’s spiritual restoration.
