Abstract Earlier scholarship faced a number of limitations in classifying catena manuscripts on the Acts of the Apostles. This study makes a comparison of exegetical scholia in selected text passages (Acts 2:1–16, 8:9–25, 28:19–31) in order to determine the different types of catena and how they relate to each other. This survey reveals the diversity of the tradition: some manuscripts are merely copies, which repeat the same text with only small variations, but others are unique and cannot be directly identified with a particular catena type. It is therefore necessary to expand the classification of catenae on Acts in the Clavis Patrum Graecorum so as to mark subdivisions within the individual types.

Abstract Numbers 11 is a foundational passage for OT pneumatology and supports pentecostal theology and practice. There, God, through Moses, expressed his plan that all believers should be empowered for prophetic ministry by the Holy Spirit. That experience of the seventy elders involved a kind of prophesying that was probably praise and prayer in tongues, as in Acts 2.

In this article, we show how pathways to justice and reconciliation pertaining to the transatlantic slavery should begin with collective healing processes. To illustrate this conclusion, we first employ a four-fold conceptual framework for understanding collective healing that consists in: (1) acknowledging historical dehumanizing acts; (2) addressing the harmful effects of dehumanisation; (3) embracing relational rapprochement; and (4) co-imagining and co-creating conditions for systemic justice. Based on this framework, we then examine existing collective healing practices in different contexts that are aimed at addressing legacies of transatlantic slavery. In doing so, we further identify challenges and pose critical questions concerning such practices. While globally there are, and have been, many different kinds of racism and slavery, and even though transatlantic slavery has many features specific to it, nevertheless, we hope that this exploration of collective healing will be illuminating for other situations where acts of brutality have served to demean and dehumanize.

Accusations play a pivotal role in human communication. There seems be be some changes in the contemporary political situation. However, there is a lack of a philosophical conceptualisation that is necessary for appropriate descriptions of accusations and further philosophical scrutiny. Accustation Theory (AT) is proposed as such a theoretical framework. This paper aims (1) to present some general tools for the description of accusations as speech acts, (2) will try to understand fundamental features of accusations, (3) understand some elements of the practice of accusing, (4) will present a short overview of relevant literature and (5) outline some possible lines of further research.

Abstract. Pentecostal churches are known to put more emphasis on the spiritual aspect of their teaching than on the social aspect. The social activities carried out are also more widely understood as a means to win souls. This paper aimed to recollect the awareness of the Pentecostal spirit that cannot be separated from social solidarity. The method used in this study was an interpretive descriptive method on Acts 2:41-47. Through this study, it could be concluded that social solidarity is not a strategy to win souls, but is an inherent essence of a congregation filled with the Holy Spirit.

Early followers of Jesus and later rabbinical Jews, two divergent branches of Judaism emerging respectively from the Second Temple and Post-Second Temple eras, both drew upon the cultural memory of Sinai to establish their identity. This article examines how the author of Acts used the Sinai imagery of theophanic fire in the Pentecost narrative of Acts 2 to reinforce a continuation of Judaism and offer an inclusive expansion of it to gentile believers. Then it looks at how later rabbinic sources used Sinai images of fire and multiple languages to reinforce the authority of the Torah and their exclusive identity within the Sinai relationship.

Naturally the discussion about the Spirit leads to the book of Acts which is the basis of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit by the Pentecostal school. As Pentecostalism developed, advocates emerged as people who were trained theologically, so that the discussion became moreweighty with the consensus that the interpretation of Acts must be carried out responsibly by applying correct hermeneutic principles. The author is interested in delving deeper into the text about the Holy Spirit from the events of Pentecost, namely Acts 2: 1-13, by applying hermeneutic principles in an exegetical study. Therefore, this article uses a type of literature research to support exegetical studies of the text of Acts 2: 1-13. The results obtained were in the form of interpretations of the Pentecost event, namely: the moment of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as the fulfillment of God's promise and the moment of the outpouring was the fulfillment of the promise regarding the Power of the Holy Spirit as empowerment to become a witness of Jesus Christ. This article also includes the theological implications of today's Pentecost events.
