In the 1950s, the city of Casablanca underwent a surge in demographic growth. Having become a strategic port during the French protectorate, it quickly had to accommodate more than 140,000 new arrivals from the countryside. The most extensive urban development project in the city was Carrières Centrales, introduced as a case study in the CIAM IX by the GAMMA team. Michel Écochard, Candilis and Woods reinterpreted the traditional Moroccan house in a compact horizontal fabric as well as in singular buildings. This became the typology not only for a house, but for the whole city. A revisit to Carrières Centrales 65 years after its construction provides an understanding of the metamorphosis that the urban fabric has undergone over time. The critical analysis in this research aims to uncover the main architectural and social parameters that have influenced its transformation. To achieve this goal, fieldwork was carried out during a research trip in October 2018. The work involved contacting local professors, accessing the archives of the University of Casablanca, interviewing the residents, and redrawing and graphing all the architectural elements that had changed since their construction. The urban fabric of Carrières Centrales was found to have evolved in a way that supports the following hypothesis: if an urban model imported into a developing country does not adapt to the changes in the life of its residents, it is considered a failure.

The unique Traditional Islamic architecture characterizes some cities in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The purpose of the study is to highlight the significance of the Traditional Islamic house design, architectural elements, and the use of low-technology in house construction concerning sustainable architecture, in Old Fatimid Cairo and Rosetta (Rashid) cities. The study's method includes a literature review; with an overview of the history, the urban form, and the Islamic house design and architectural elements influenced by the local Islamic context (natural and cultural environments). A field survey included: the selection of eleven examples, five from Old Fatimid Cairo city and six examples from Rosetta (Rashid) city representing the most famous houses including the different architectural elements, and analyzing its components, the house design, spatial organization, building materials, house elements, courtyard, Mashrabiyah, wind catchers, and the construction system. Moreover, a comparative study for the selected Islamic houses illustrates the contexts' impact on the house design. In conclusion, the study highlighted the significance of Islamic house design and low-technology in house design and construction, which could be considered sustainable architecture and developed in the form of advanced technology in the future.

In Ptolemaic Egypt (ca. 332–30 BC), numerous physical spaces served as loci of identity negotiation for elite individuals inhabiting a setting where imported Greek traditions interacted with local Egyptian ones. Such negotiations, or maneuverings, often took place through visual culture. This essay explores a sample of the Greek architectural elements and surface decorations used in wealthy Ptolemaic homes and what they communicate about the residents’ sense of identity. The decorative choices made for a home conveyed information about the social status and cultural allegiances of its owner(s). Some comparisons are possible between Ptolemaic homes in Alexandria, the Delta, and the Fayyum and those from other Hellenistic sites in the eastern Mediterranean such as Priene and Delos. Elites in Alexandria and the Egyptian chora incorporated Greek traditions into their homes and adapted them in increasingly novel ways, creating architecture and surface decoration that was uniquely Ptolemaic. These households were visually in dialogue both with broader Hellenistic trends and with their Egyptian context.

This paper explores the styles of construction and the city features of the sixteenth century royal capital of Haṁsāvatī, located in Bago, Myanmar. It was founded by King Bayinnaung in 1566 CE. Throughout its existence, the ancient city has been devastated by natural disasters, weak heritage conservation policies, and urban encroachments. Starting from 2018, excavation work on Haṁsāvatī wall was started and research was carried out on up to four excavation mounds. Archaeological excavations have revealed a wealth of evidence on architecture, including the city walls, gateways, and turrets. This research examines the architectural elements found during the excavations of the Haṁsāvatī wall, construction techniques, renovations and destructions throughout centuries. New hypotheses and discoveries from excavations, cross-examinations with historical records will also be presented. ဤစာတမ်းငယ်သည် မမန်မာနိုင်ငံ၊ ပဲခူးမမို့တွင် တည်ရှိသသာ (၁၆) ရာစုနှစ်လက်ရာ ဟံသာဝတီမမို့သတာ်၏ တည်သောက်မှုပုံစံနှင့် မမို့မပအင်္ဂါရပ်တို့ကို ရှာသွွသွာ်ထုတ်ထားပါသည်။ ဤမမို့သတာ်ကို ဘုရင့်သနာင်မင်းတရားကကီးက သအဒီ (၁၅၆၆) တွင် စတင်တည်သထာင်ခဲ့မခင်းမွစ်သည်။ ရာဇဝင်နှင့်မှတ်တမ်းများအရ မမို့သဟာင်းသည် သဘာဝသဘးအန္တရာယ်၊ ထိန်းသိမ်းမှုမူဝါဒညံ့ွျင်းမှုများနှင့် မမို့မပကျူးသကျာ်မှုများကို တည်ရှိလာသည့်ကာလတစ်သလှောက် များစွာခံစားခဲ့ရသသးသည်။ (၂၀၁၈) ခုနှစ်မှ စတင်၍ ဟံသာဝတီမမို့သဟာင်းတူးသွာ်မှုလုပ်ငန်းများကို စတင်နိုင်ခဲ့မပီး လက်ရှိအချနိ ်အထိ တူးသွာ်မှုကုန်းသလးခုအထိ သုသတသနမပုလုပ်နိုင်ခဲ့မပီးမွစ်ပါသည်။ မမို့ရိုး၊ မမို့တံခါးသပါက်၊ မပအိုးအစရှိသည့် များစွာသသာ ဗိသုကာေိုင်ရာအသထာက်အထားများကိုလည်း သရှး သဟာင်းသုသတသနေိုင်ရာတူးသွာ်မှုများမှတစ်ေင့် သွာ်ထုတ်နိုင်ခဲ့မပီးမွစ်ပါသည်။ ယခုသုသတသနသည် ဟံသာဝတီမမို့ရိုးတူးသွာ်မှုမှ သတွ့ရှိရသည့် ဗိသုကာေိုင်ရာ အင်္ဂါရပ်များ၊

Seven color contrasts are considered in the article; they were described in the book «The Elements of Colour» by Johannes Itt en. In the fi rst part the theory of color contrasts is perceived to be a specifi c phenomenon, which shows how the colors interact with each other. In the second part of article there is the analysis of the architectural elements based on the Itt en‘s theory of color contrasts. So, the interaction of color contrasts and their infl uence on building and its perception and forms are identifi ed by the color contrasts.

The Banjarmasin city is located in territorial waters. The development is currently causing problems related to the context of the aquatic environment. This is because urban development planning is not in accordance with the environmental context. Therefore, this article aims to determine the sustainability of water-based settlements in aquatic environment in Banjarmasin city. This is a qualitative article with the descriptive method used to explain the environmental structure and architectural elements of water-based settlements. Primary and secondary data were obtained from field observations and the city government in the form of maps and pictures of settlements. The data collected were analyzed with the descriptive approach and concluded using the deductive method. This article reveals the form of residence due to community adaptation to water areas and finds that urban spatial development policies need to understand the community's adaptation process as a local brand of city identity. The concept of 'living with water is a future challenge because it is a water-based cultural adaptation strategy. The architecture of the floating residence has the opportunity to be developed into a floating settlement and city. Therefore, the adaptation of residential architectural forms and environmental structures supports the Banjarmasin city as a waterfront city.

The aim of the research is to identify the compositional methods of using art glass in the interiors of public buildings in order to increase their aesthetic expressiveness. In the article the information on the history of art glass development is given. According to the results of the historical analysis, it is concluded that new directions of glass application arose with the development of new technologies of glass production and processing - this process continues to this day. An overview of the state of study of the problem, in particular the research of Kazakova L.V., F.Petryakova, Som-Serdyukova O.M., Daineko V.V., and identified the main areas in which research is conducted. The physical properties of glass and its types by technological features are considered. A historical overview of the development of gutnitsy on the territory of Ukraine. The two main trends in studio glassmaking to date have been identified and a conclusion has been drawn about the evolution of art glass from the subject form to the art object. The current state of art glass formation is characterized by associativity, metaphoricalness, and increased decorativeness. The classification of art glass according to the function of application in public interior is carried out. The basic compositional methods of placing art glass in the space of public interior are revealed. Three degrees of integration of art glass with elements of architecture are formulated: the decor on architectural elements, as a part of architectural elements, is directly an architectural and constructive element. Examples of objects that demonstrate the integration of art glass with architectural elements are given. Henri Matisse's stained glass windows in the Dominican Sisters' Chapel in Mans, France, are described as an example of the use of the "rhythm" compositional technique and Dale Chihuly's glass garden gallery in Seattle with a glass installation that dominates the pavilion. It is concluded that the choice of compositional methods of including art glass in the interior space depends on many factors - the functional purpose of the room, the specifics of space, its size, etc. and should take into account aspects of its psychological impact on man, principles of structural and compositional organization and features life processes.

<p>This paper identifies and discusses designing interior building dynamics that, through user interaction, can be physically manipulated and maneuvered to suit a changing situation in spatial requirements/preferences. Designers have partially realised this architectural vision through both mobile and dynamic interior elements, and relocatable construction systems. Here lies the potential for a digitally manufactured modular system for spatial dynamics, providing interactive interior architecture with embedded spatial fluidity. Providing occupants of these interior spaces with the capacity to determine the spatial conditions how and when they require. Leveraging modern digital fabrication techniques like CNC timber milling and consideration of factors such as assembly/disassembly, this thesis explores ideas of tactility and kinetics of interior space and how the user interactions can exact spatial change. This research develops a modular tectonic language, with low operational - mechanical and construction - complexity. A manipulatable interior tectonic such as this would be possible to complement existing structures or other fixed designed architectural elements to provide an enhanced level of building function through a immediately influenceable spatial conditions. The research undertaken explores a series of experimental modular prototypes, each a unique response for spatial dynamics.</p>
