Abstract Background Robotic liver surgery is emerging as the future of minimal invasive surgery. The robotic surgical system offers a stable camera platform, elimination of physiologic tremor, augmented surgical dexterity as well as improved ergonomics because of a seated operating position. Due to the theoretical advantages of the robotic assisted system, complex liver surgery might be an especially interesting indication for a robotic approach since it demands delicate tissue dissection, precise intracorporeal suturing as well as difficult parenchymal transection with subsequent need for meticulous hemostasis and biliostasis. Material and methods An analysis of English and German literature on open, laparoscopic and robotic liver surgery was performed and this review provides a general overview of the existing literature along with current standards and aims to specifically point out future directions of robotic liver surgery. Results Robotic liver surgery is safe and feasible compared to open and laparoscopic surgery, with improved short-term postoperative outcomes and at least non-inferior oncological outcomes. Conclusion In complex cases including major hepatectomies, extended hepatectomies with biliary reconstruction and difficult segmentectomies of the posterior-superior segments, robotic surgery appears to emerge as a reasonable alternative to open surgery rather than being an alternative to laparoscopic procedures.

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is widely utilized across multiple surgical disciplines, including gynecology. To date, laparoscopy is considered a common surgical modality in children and adolescents to treat gynecological conditions. Robotic surgical devices were developed to circumvent the limitations of laparoscopy and have expanded the surgical armamentarium with better magnification, dexterity enhanced articulating instruments with 5-7 degrees of freedom, and ability to scale motion thus eliminating physiologic tremor. There are well-documented advantages of MIS over laparotomy, including decreased post-operative pain, shorter recovery times, and better cosmetic results. Indications for MIS in pediatric gynecology are reported in this review and technical considerations are described to highlight new treatment perspectives in children and adolescents, which have already been described in the literature regarding adult patients.

Tremor is the most common movement disorder and denotes a rhythmic and involuntary movement of one or several regions of the body. This review covers disease definition, essential tremor, enhanced physiologic tremor, parkinsonian tremor, dystonic tremor, orthostatic tremor, cerebellar tremor, Holmes tremor, neuropathic tremor, palatal tremor, drug-induced and toxic tremors, functional tremor, rare tremor syndromes, tremorlike conditions, and treatment of tremor. Figures show action tremor assessment, the central nervous system circuits of tremor, magnetic resonance imaging findings in specific tremor conditions, general management of tremor patients, an algorithm for the treatment of parkinsonian tremor, and an algorithm for the treatment of dystonic tremor and primary writing tremor. Tables list types of tremor according to the condition of activation, tremor conditions in newborns and during childhood, clinical features of the most common tremor syndromes, motor signs other than tremor and nonmotor features of essential tremor patients, Movement Disorder Society consensus criteria for the diagnosis of essential tremor, genetic and environmental causes of essential tremor, causes of enhanced physiologic tremor, drugs and toxins known to cause tremor, paroxysmal tremors, pseudorhythmic myoclonus in the differential diagnosis of tremor, and pharmacologic management of essential tremor.
