Rudolph Matas (1860-1957) was one of the foremost figures in the history of vascular surgery. He is considered the father of vascular surgery for his operations for arteriovenous fistula and peripheral artery aneurysm, all devised before the isolation of heparin and the wide adoption of techniques for vascular anastomosis. A medical and surgical prodigy, Matas received his medical degree from Tulane University at age 19 (1880) and was named its chair of surgery at 35 (1895), a position he would hold until 1927. A contemporary and friend of Halsted, Matas throughout his career he was known as a leader in the field, holding the presidencies of the American College of Surgeons (1925-1926) and the American Surgical Association (1909). He maintained loyal relationships to those who trained in surgery with him at Touro Hospital in New Orleans, including the author’s grandfather, the first Richard J. Field. Matas was an honored guest at the dedication of the Centreville Clinic in 1928, the facility where three generations of Field surgeons have provided continuous service to its rural Mississippi community for nearly a century.

Multimedia cloud computing has emerged as a popular paradigm for the support of delay-intolerable immersive multimedia applications with high-end three-dimensional rendering. To that end, fog computing offers distributed computational offloading solutions, by positioning rendering servers in close proximity to end users promising in this way continuous service provision, that is otherwise not easily attainable under the strictly centralized cloud-only model. Yet, in order to alleviate the multimedia providers from unnecessary capital expenditure, a strategic placement approach of the servers at the fog layer must be implemented, that can effectively cope both with the network dynamics and the overall imposed deployment cost, and still adhere to the delay bounds set forth by the multimedia application. In this paper, we formally formulate the problem as a facility location problem using constrained optimization over a finite time horizon. We then theoretically analyze the minimum acceptable conditions necessary for a decentralized location of the servers, utilizing solely local information around their immediate neighborhood, that iteratively leads to better solutions. Based on the analysis, we propose a distributed algorithm, namely the Autonomous Renderer Placement Algorithm (ARPA), to address it. ARPA employs localized service relocation to shift the placement according to simple rules that designate elastic migration, replication, and complementary consolidation of the underlying renderers. Simulation results under diversified deployment scenarios, as well as trace-driven comparisons against other approaches, testify to ARPA's accountability in obeying the delay limits and fast converge in finite time slots to a placement solution that both outperforms the baseline alternatives and is close to the optimal one, rendering it suitable for scaling up and down to meet the current demands of the offered multimedia applications.

AbstractIn this paper, we investigate how to improve the profits in cloud infrastructures by using price schemes and analyzing the user interactions with the cloud provider. For this purpose, we consider two different types of client behavior, namely regular and high-priority users. Regular users do not require a continuous service, and they can wait to be attended to. In contrast, high-priority users require a continuous service, e.g., a 24/7 service, and usually need an immediate answer to any request. A complete framework has been implemented, which includes a UML profile that allows us to define specific cloud scenarios and the automatic transformations to produce the code for the cloud simulations in the Simcan2Cloud simulator. The engine of Simcan2Cloud has also been modified by adding specific SLAs and price schemes. Finally, we present a thorough experimental study to analyze the performance results obtained from the simulations, thus making it possible to draw conclusions about how to improve the cloud profit for the cloud studied by adjusting the different parameters and resource configuration.

Abstract Austral Wright Titanium Grade 2 (UNS R50400) is an unalloyed, commercially pure titanium grade. It is the most widely used commercially pure titanium grade. It offers a combination of moderate strength (similar to that of austenitic stainless steels), good formability, outstanding corrosion resistance, and good weldability. Austral Wright Titanium Grade 2 can operate in continuous service up to 425 °C (800 °F) and in intermittent service up to 540 °C (1005 °F). The objective of this work is to address the topic of the Continuous Service Benefit, from the perspective of miserability, providing a debate on the aspecto of per capita income, in conditions of inclusion of the ‘’hypo-sufficient’’ citizens to the assistance provided by the State. The guarantee of a minimum monthly wage for the disabled or elderly person who proves that he doesn’t have the means to provide for his own maintenance or to have it provided by his Family, is a way of protecting the class of the population of 65 years or more or those with limitations , in order to provide them with the minimum existential according to human dignity.

Abstract ATI CP Grade 16 Titanium is an unalloyed titanium grade that contains 0.04–0.08% Pd. This Pd-containing alloy extends the range of application of commercially pure (CP) titanium in HCl, H3PO4, and H2SO4 solutions. ATI CP Grade 16 Titanium is used in applications requiring excellent corrosion resistance in chemical processing or in storage applications where the media is mildly reducing or fluctuates between oxidizing and reducing. It can be used in continuous service up to 425 °C (795 °F) and in intermittent service up to 540 °C (1000 °F).
