Towards chlorinated solvents, the effectiveness of the remediation strategy can be improved by combining a biological approach (e.g., anaerobic reductive dechlorination) with chemical/physical treatments (e.g., adsorption). A coupled adsorption and biodegradation (CAB) process for trichloroethylene (TCE) removal is proposed in a biofilm–biochar reactor (BBR) to assess whether biochar from pine wood (PWB) can support a dechlorinating biofilm by combining the TCE (100 µM) adsorption. The BBR operated for eight months in parallel with a biofilm reactor (BR)—no PWB (biological process alone), and with an abiotic biochar reactor (ABR)—no dechlorinating biofilm (only an adsorption mechanism). Two flow rates were investigated. Compared to the BR, which resulted in a TCE removal of 86.9 ± 11.9% and 78.73 ± 19.79%, the BBR demonstrated that PWB effectively adsorbs TCE and slows down the release of its intermediates. The elimination of TCE was quantitative, with 99.61 ± 0.79% and 99.87 ± 0.51% TCE removal. Interestingly, the biomarker of the reductive dechlorination process, Dehalococcoides mccartyi, was found in the BRR (9.2 × 105 16S rRNA gene copies/g), together with the specific genes tceA, bvcA, and vcrA (8.16 × 106, 1.28 × 105, and 8.01 × 103 gene copies/g, respectively). This study suggests the feasibility of biochar to support the reductive dechlorination of D. mccartyi, opening new frontiers for field-scale applications.

One of the intriguing issues in the Islamic study is about women. Qur'an is used as a way of life for humans because it is believed to include various rules regarding all aspects of their life, including on Muslimah dress up manner. Today, many women spend money on physical treatments. This shows that women are getting more and more excessive about how to dress up with the aim of a compliment and attract others which is contrary to the tabarruj prohibition in the QS Al-Ahzab 33. The formulation of the problem in this paper is how the historical meaning and significance and the 'dynamic significance' of the verse. Applying the ma'nā-cum-maghzā hermeneutics perspective, it can be concluded that tabarruj was a bad behavior of women who were excessively ornate in the jahiliyyah era and becomes relevant again at this time. Although the verse was revealed to the wives of the Prophet, it is relevant for all Muslim women until now because of its universal moral message. This paper concludes the dress up manner for Muslimah to avoid tabarruj, including avoiding the intention not to flaunt in front of non-mahram, using make up means as needed, dressing up with the aim of ibadah by reading basmalah and prayers. Salah satu isu yang menarik dalam kajian Islam adalah tentang perempuan. Al-Qur'an dijadikan pedoman hidup bagi manusia karena diyakini memuat berbagai aturan tentang segala aspek kehidupan, termasuk tentang tata cara berbusana bagi Muslimah. Saat ini, banyak wanita menghabiskan uang untuk perawatan fisik. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa wanita semakin berlebihan dalam hal berdandan dengan tujuan untuk mendapat pujian dan menarik orang lain, yang mana hal ini bertentangan dengan larangan tabarruj dalam QS Al-Ahzab 33. Tulisan ini bertujuan mengungkap makna dan signifikansi historis serta makna dinamis ayat tersebut. Dengan menggunakan perspektif hermeneutika ma'nā-cum-maghzā, dapat disimpulkan bahwa tabarruj adalah perilaku buruk perempuan yang berhias secara berlebihan di era jahiliyyah dan menjadi relevan kembali saat ini. Meskipun ayat tersebut diturunkan kepada istri-istri Nabi, namun tetap relevan bagi semua wanita Muslim hingga saat ini karena pesan moralnya yang universal. Tulisan ini menyimpulkan adab berhias bagi muslimah untuk menghindari tabarruj, antara lain menghindari niat untuk tidak pamer di depan non-mahram, menggunakan make up sesuai kebutuhan tidak secara berlebihan, berdandan untuk tujuan ibadah dengan diawali membaca basmalah dan doa.

Для увеличения масштабов производства и переработки растительного сочного сырья и сокращения использования химических пестицидов применяются различные виды физической обработки, в том числе электромагнитные поля (ЭМП). Представлены результаты изучения влияния ЭМП крайне низкой частоты (ЭМП КНЧ) на активность пероксидазы и содержание полифенольных веществ в белокочанной капусте сорта Белтис и цветной капусте сорта Ардент при хранении. Образцы обрабатывались ЭМП (25 Гц, 10 мТл, 30 мин) на лабораторной экспериментальной установке и хранились в течение 21 сут при t (4±1)°С и относительной влажности воздуха (75±3)%. Установлено, что обработка капусты белокочанной привела к увеличению активности пероксидазы на 70% через 7 сут, а через 21 сут хранения - увеличению пероксидазы на 25% и уменьшению полифенольных веществ на 13,7%. В обработанных образцах цветной капусты увеличилась активность пероксидазы на 54% через 7 сут и на 62 % через 14 сут хранения, а также количество полифенольных веществ на 8% через 21 сут хранения. Изучение закономерностей влияния обработки растительного сочного сырья ЭМП КНЧ на индукцию резистентности позволяет разработать на их основе новые способы хранения. In order to increase the scale of production and processing of vegetable juicy raw materials, it is necessary to timely develop new efficient, economical and environmentally friendly storage technologies. One possible way to reduce the use of chemical pesticides is through the use of various types of physical treatments, including electromagnetic fields. The article presents the results of studying the influence of extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields on the peroxidase activity and the total polyphenolic content in the white cabbage cultivar Beltis and the cauliflower cultivar Ardent during storage. The objects of research were treated with an electromagnetic field (25 Hz, 10mT, 30 min) in a laboratory experimental setup and were stored for 21 days at a temperature of 4±1°С and air relative humidity of (75±3)%. It was found that, in comparison with the control, the treatment of white cabbage leads to an increase in peroxidase activity by 70% after 7 days and by 25% after 21 days of storage, and an increase in peroxidase by 25% and a decrease in polyphenolic substances by 13,7% after 21 days of storage. It was also found that, in comparison with the control, the treatment of cauliflower leads to an increase in peroxidase activity by 54% after 7 days and by 62% after 14 days of storage, and leads to an 8% increase in the content of polyphenolic substances after 21 days of storage. The study of the regularities of the influence of the treatment of vegetable juicy raw materials with electromagnetic fields of extremely low frequencies on the induction of resistance can make it possible to develop new storage methods on their basis.

Abstract We present analysis of a new pulsating helium-atmosphere (DB) white dwarf, EPIC 228782059, discovered from 55.1 days of K2 photometry. The long-duration, high-quality light curves reveal 11 independent dipole and quadruple modes, from which we derive a rotational period of 34.1 ± 0.4 hr for the star. An optimal model is obtained from a series of grids constructed using the White Dwarf Evolution Code, which returns M * = 0.685 ± 0.003M ⊙, T eff = 21,910 ± 23 K, and log g = 8.14 ± 0.01 dex. These values are comparable to those derived from spectroscopy by Koester & Kepler (20,860 ± 160 K, and 7.94 ± 0.03 dex). If these values are confirmed or better constrained by other independent works, it would make EPIC 228782059 one of the coolest pulsating DB white dwarf stars known, and would be helpful for testing different physical treatments of convection, and to further investigate the theoretical instability strip of DB white dwarf stars.

The current study aimed to investigate the effect of different treatments applied to sessile oak seeds in order to improve the germination features, development and growth of seedlings. The seeds were subjected to electric field, electromagnetic field and γ rays’ treatments. For the electric field study three distinct voltages (10V, 30V and 50V) and three values of exposure time (15 min., 35 min. and 60 min.) were considered. Displaying the seeds in an electric field for 60 minutes increased the germination rate with 58.89%. The highest value for the seedling’s height was obtained when seeds were exposed for 15 minutes at an intensity of 30V. The interaction between the intensity and the timing showed that treating seeds with 30V for 35 minutes improved significantly the seedlings peculiarities. In regard to the electromagnetic field, the seeds were subjected to a single value of electromagnetic field (B=0,4mT; i=0,680 A) and three values of exposure time: 10 min., 20 min. and 30 min. The sessile oak seeds subjected to the electromagnetic field for 20 minutes induced the highest value of germination percentage (90.00%) and germination index (1.81) and those seeds produced plantlets with high diameter (2.69 mm) and with significant differences towards non-treated plants. For γ rays treatments a dosage of 2 Gy induced the highest value of germination percentage (86.67%), of germination index (2.02); of germination energy (7.7); and of germination speed (7.24). A dosage of 6 Gy decreased the values of the same parameters. Our results showed that a dosage of 2 Gy improved also the growth parameters such as plantlets diameter (2.65 mm) and height (11.25 cm). In short, the physical treatments represent an ecological substitute approach towards the chemical substances presently used to improve seeds germination. Using physical treatments for seeds germination and growth of seedlings might be a harmless alternative for environment.
